What bothers me to no end is that so many of these antique pistols have a story that ties directly to Canadian Forces history and to the people who served. I couldn't imagine having to relinquish a Luger that, say, my great grandfather captured in WWI. It's an affront to the service of the guy who captured it. These would likely never be fired again and there should have been a historical exception to their destruction. Absurd.

In Argentina my father in laws landlord asked me for a favor, for a friend of his. He wanted me to pick up a set of sights for his 45. I took what he wanted the next time I went down there. It's a small town out on the pampa. When I dropped them off, he invited us in for a coffee. He had hundreds of Lugers of all shapes and sizes. I probably drooled all over his floor as we walked from room to room where the walls were covered in lugers. I always make sure I call before we go down there, just in case he needs something else!

@@honestreviewer3283 maybe, I have another story. I knew a US sailor that was on a port of call liberty in Buenos Aries. Late at night on his way back to the ship
He was stopped by a policeman. After struggling through the language barrier. He figured out the policeman wanted to trade a luger for his navy issue black low quater shoes. I asked him how it turned out? He said, "What do you think! I walked back to the ship barefoot!" I saw the luger 40 years ago. I believe his son still has it. I know, I've wandered through the flea markets in Buenos Aries and seen lots of German/nazi items. You wouldn't have to be a nazi to buy up German ordinance.

This 08 with holster and drum magazine could be from Sturmtruppen (Stoßtrupp), as in 1917 more of these formations were established. I know only about the thin non holster stock fixed aside of the leather holster, but could be as of shortage they used the bigger holster stock as well. These formations were lead by a single Officer with only 5-7 men attacking enemy trenches and wiping them out, the Officer had usually a long barrel 08 with drum magazine, one soldier carrying a few more magazines for him, other carrying a haversack full with stick grenades.

I had an original Erfurt 1914 artillery luger with matching stock and original pigskin holster that I sold about 20 years ago to a fella out in California for 4k. I had it listed as the holster/stock/straps only on Ebay, with the gun in the background... Only mismatched part was the magazine. Boy did the dealers at the OAKS and Leesport PA gun show beat me up over that when I had it there to sell. As always, Ebay came through on selling rare stuff without having to give them a cut, and I made 2500 bucks. Should have kept it in hindsight!

Thailand did contracted the Mauser in 1938 to supply the Royal Thai Police with 8" shoulder and Hoster Stock with Gurda stamped on the chamber. It also has 4" barrel with Gruda gold outline. I also saw Krifhoff in 4: barrel but it was chamber in .30 Luger.

I had a chance to buy a mint ww2 luger at a gun show from a gentleman who served in the merchant marine. He said it belonged to his friend who had passed away recently and had captured it from Juno Beach. Money was given to the gentleman, and we were just exchanging information to start the transfer when a very cocky arrogant guy came up and asked me if I had a prohibited license. After some back and forth arrguing with this guy, it turned out that the Luger barrel is 1.5mm to long to meet Canadian barrel length standards, and as a result, I could not legally own this gun. I had to watch this older guy who had prohibited license step in and buy the luger. I was so pissed off at my government. Apparently, in 1998, the government changed the laws, which sadly included the luger, making it prohibited.

When I was removing the chimney blocks in the basement found an old box and sure as shit there was 2 lugers in it one in a holster one without. She ended up turning them into the rcmp but turned out her deceased husband's father brought em back after ww1 and passed them down to the husband who didn't want anything to do with them but was afraid to turn them in. Odds are they got destroyed. Pity as where they were in the chimney they had been kept at almost perfect humidity and temp and were in great condition
