I am sure back in the day guys in the field would have said the best magazine for their Luger is one that works
The one that works AND I have.
A crappy magazine that works 90% of the time is better than none…
Just like tanks…
But they did not had any thought of the value for the collectors 70+ years later, shame on them! 😊
Wow Tom! Awesome examples! And another great video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.👍
Tom, truly an impressive recitation of this great Canadian Luger rescue. Your knowledge is encyclopedic, thanks.
Great Video Tom, I always learn something new when you do the comparisons over time for a firearm, thanks so much.
Though this was created a year ago, I just happened across it and I can say it was one of the most detailed and important Luger videos I have seen.I have been collecting for years and have a really great double date 1918/20 DWM Luger in our family collection. It did not come with a matching mag- I know, thats a shocker! I did pick up several original mags along the way and researched them as best I could but this video has been a huge leap in knowledge on the shrinking pool of original mags for these iconic firearms. Thank you for the information on this subject as well as the wide array of videos you produce. Keep them coming. Stay safe and well my friend.
Excellent, educational video Tom! Yes, thank you for trying to save as many Lugers from destruction as possible. Destruction of guns equals destruction of history.
regards from England, great videoTom. I have a 1939 kreigsmarine Luger which has the nordsee prefix stamp N but was later assigned to the soviet sector when Germany was split into the 4 zones after the war and has the stamp. S XIX. its all matching numbers but has the police mag. Mind blowing how many different variations there are. thanks again for your videos.. A happy and healthy 2022 to you and your family.
Very nice!!!! I’d love to have a KM marked P08. I’ve got a KM “O” Baltic fleet 1934 Mauser but would rather a KM Luger any day!!
@@Nick_B_Bad you still have a lovely historical pistol my friend. those 0s are pretty rare.
Excellent lesson👀.....Thanks Tom....👍
Excellent video Tom! Keep it coming! Many thanks....
Amazing video and Lugers - as always!
Always an Outstanding video and presentation. Thank you!
Thank you very much, very interesting and accurate talk about Lugers, please can you shed some lights about Swiss Lugers. Tom my best for a great 2022.
Just got a luger, have learned so much from your videos, fascinating for sure.
Appreciate the info Tom. You make me want to buy as many Lugers as I can get a hold of. I have a byf 41, that’s just the start.
Tengo una luger me podría informar si es original y si fue militar mi arma
Great vid. I learned a bunch. Thank you soooo much.
Another great video Tom, I always learn something from them.
Very informative and educational presentation. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
Regards from Brazil
I’m ready for more Lugers from you guys!
I made walnut magazine bottoms/bases for John Martz Luger Carbine maker in the 1970s and throughout the 1980s and I used to pressure cook epoxy resin into the wood after making and finishing the bottoms. I would then wipe off the excess epoxy and allow to cure. None of my mag. bottoms that I know of have cracked or broken. The final finish was similar to an oil finish. Also, the oldest magazines used in P08 pistols were tin dipped or plated before the nickel finished and extruded ones.
Fascinating and very educational. Thanks and Happy New Year.
wow im impressed! if i had the cash ide rescue as many Canadian bring backs as i could! its like puppy's and kittens i want them all! i want to make sure they are happy and safe and being taken care of . yup!
In Canada, the firearms center permits pre- 1945 prohibited arms to be passed down to people with Restricted status licenses - upon the death of the original vet that brought the firearm back from the war. That’s something many people don’t know.
Very informative.
Tom I got hooked on your channel buy watching MR Whitman from one of his videos, and a surf 🏄♀️ your site at the product’s for sale , HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎈 LOVE ❤️ EDUCATIONAL, history of the guns 💪. Thank you ☺️🎄
Great video.
The very early 41's still had aluminum baseplates on the mags. Sometime in late Winter or early Spring 1941 is when they switched to the bakelite base.
I need to finally get a nice wartime P08 already!! Been spending too much time on German occupation pistols! 🤣 GLAD I did though! French and Spanish Waffenamt pistols have really appreciated in the last 2 years!
S. D. VI. = Schutzpolizei Düsseldorf unit 6. Look above this grip mark, it appears something else was stamped there at one time.
With all of the mis-matched magazines out there you'd think collectors would put together a database where they could find out if a match to their gun is known to exist and do some horse trading to get it back with its original pistol
I have been thinking the same thing for quite some time. Great idea.
I have a couple German Mauser rifles I'd love to find find the original serialized bayonets for too!
On each luger forum that I am at, they have a listing - however, what you want is a listing that is updated and shared by many. Very hard to do, unless someone devotes his time to it. Don Hallock (RIP) did this for several decades and reunited many mags.
There are several luger forums that do just that
Du bist Der Luger Meister. (Translation: You are The Luger Master) This is a very interesting video.
Having a bicycle manufacturer make Lugers is like having a sewing machine manufacturer make 1911's.
Singer did make them.
Thank you
as a canadian gun owner I am extremely embarrassed and concerned of what has become of our country
Might wanna stop paying taxes then, it’s the only way to make a government cuck out
Canada has become a shithole.
Hi enjoyable video… thanks. My question is,…. How do you guys change the country protocol, in this case prevent destruction and send you the weapon. Do you use the Historical card.?
He mentioned it a little bit in the video, but were the commercial no numbered wooden bottom magazines used as equally as the numbered ones during ww1?
A suggestion for a series of videos, maybe about 12 to 15 minutes. From Your own collection, top 3 guns of every type, these would be those that You never will sell under current circumstances, no monetary problems, no divorce, no new gun laws. And a motivation WHY You picked these, high monetary value, high sentimental value, high historical value or something else. PPs and PPKs are different group, P38, HSC, Sauer 38, 1911s, and so on.
I like it
I have a luger magazine with concentric circles and " cal 9 m/m on wood bottom would this be appropriate to 1916 navy luger or American eagle with grip safety it came with american eagle luger is that correct? Or will it be more appropriate on a navy luger navy 1916?
Please advice ANYONE which gun would be a better choice to put this mag in. THANK YOU guys for advice!
I have this exact model from 1916 with SN - 8014.
Thank you for this great video. I have a question to the K date Mauser P08 from 1934. Why are there the letter S markings on some parts? Came those parts from Simson? I have seen such a P08 with the K and S/42 and several S markings. Thank you for an answer.
Not sure the reason for the S but it was not from simson parts
@@thomaswhiteman4261 Sure? The K model was a transition version. After WWI Simson also got parts from DWM and Erfurt.
@@dieterrahm4044 All true. Nope. Not sure where the idea of the S came from
Hi is there any way to try to find matching parts for Mauser Luger 1940 looking for toggle number 30 ?
Just a question, how bad does an import mark hurt the value of a byf 41 luger?
Cuts 10 - 20%
what would be correct for a VOPO luger ?
How can I, a fellow American citizen and collector, go about also saving Lugers from destruction and importing them to the US? Don't be selfish, there's plenty to go around and they need saving.
First thing I would say is fill out the ATF form to get an FFL with importing privileges. Secondly make some contacts up in the Maple Leaf land.
How hard is it to get magazines sent back to Canada. I’d like some spare mags and at least a reloading tool
I think we can mail to you directly
Sometime, could you explain the distinction between "Commercial" and "Military" Lugers and Mausers? Considering the war demands during 1914-1918, was there really much commercial/civilian demand that could be met (outside police service and private purchase by service members? Wouldn't these pistols have been found their way into the services?
Officers were required to purchase their own sidearms. Some lucky or privileged politically connected people could also purchase them, they’d all be commercial. The military marked were actually property of the armed forces and issued to a soldier as a secondary sidearm and those would have the military proofs.
👍
The 1920 marking on the top of a luger upper is actually a gov't property marking and/or a date, It is Not a rework marking, although for many years folks thought that is what it meant. it does not. . Lugers were required to be dated, and after WW1 when DWM went to make some, they were required to be in 30 luger (7.65mm) and they were dated 1920. At the same time, citizens were required to turn in weapons and the Weimar gov't gave a bounty on different weapons. Well, it was assumed and likely so, that soldiers were turning in weapons from the army stores. Thus a directive came out that the 1920 would be placed on all gov't owned weapons. This is not a date, NOR a rework, but an acceptance gov't marking.
im to young to have gotten any of the sweet millsurp or bring back for dirt cheap. wen i started looking ide see shooter quality guns for around 350$ and the older collectors skoffed at that as being ridiculous for a refinished mismatched mix master.well how much are they right now? ive seen shooters going for 700-900$ its like the old guys didn't realize that gun values on quality firearms are only ever going to go one way and that is up up up!
DO U HAVE AN AIRGUN DEPO WEATHERED .177
What would a sun symbol mean on a wood 1917 Luger magazine Erfurt
14.32 what is a magazine safety . did you mean mag release
Great video! And I have no interest (other than historical) in owning one.
"Erfurt" in German sounds like "air-furt" in English, pronounced rapidly, with the accent on the second syllable.
it should be a crime to destroy these. that is just flat out stupid some of these cost more than a used an automobile
"Black Widow Luger` is dealer ie- owner speak to make their pistol worth more to the unknowing buyer period.
Trick question. I don't have a luger.
What a shame so many fine collectable items will be destroyed. You are rescuing only a small percent of what is banned. Yet noble in itself.
In "some country" it is a capital crime for the citizen to be caught processing firearms, ammo components etc. The country that prohibits its citizens to own firearm including China, Singapore, Australia and Japan. The process start with mandatory registration that requires the gun to be physically inspected by licensing authority for assigned number then the gun was kept in the authority procession for "safe keeping" after that the gun will be transferred to government department of interior and you will never see your gun again.
can you help me with my luger? It jams after every shot.... =[
"Ostsee" in German sounds like "austzay" ", the "au" pronounced as in 'Austin'" in Engrish, spoken rapidly.
Accent on first syllable.
I have 10 ww2 guns nothing special. I believe these guns are about to see the peak in prices .
I’m a AMERICAN 🇺🇸 period Canada 🇨🇦 whooops who lol
Idea is,…. These firearms are part of world history and must be preserved. I cringed when you said destroyed….. thanks for doing what you can to stop that…
and in a time of "interchangeable parts" xDDD
It's so depressing that I love your videos as I stay in South Africa where you have to wait a year for a gun license and that is IF you end up being granted one. Stigma against guns here is also really bad. Sigh. Again, love your videos though.
More things owned by Evil men! I wouldn' t own one.
My 1917 eurfurt Russian capture with police grips and Russian capture mags.
Its not supply and demand its our.....including me......demand for lugers but from 1908 to 1945 there are many more than one would suspect
How many ww2 lugers are out there? How many p38 walthers are out there? So a decent luger is 2200$ at least but how many colt detectives or whatever is out there?
you know Tom, the canadians need to grow a spine and tell the govt to go to hell!!! and by now the right magazine is the one that works in the gun!! honestly after all these guns have been through any of them with a matching mag should be a notice to Ripley's believe it or not!!
I don't care if the # match as long as they functional can you give me a price Thank you
It's sickening to hear about Canada. In your career have you ever received or purchased a gun that was loaded ?
Yes. Once or twice
I have a question: "What ever happened to the Skulls of the Japanese the U.S. Forces brought back from the Pacific? , Have you ever seen one for sale?" Could you do a video on this subject ?
No such thing exists
Please accept that my English is limited, but I try to do my best!
First, let me say: many thanks for (all) your videos.
And then, I will offer a different view, to all of your videos. For e better understanding I have to tell you: I live in Europe, in a country what was occupied by the Wehrmacht. So, please note that I'm far from being a Nazi, and have no symphonies at all, for the Nazi-Idiologie!
For a long time i was nasty that the US have totally robbed Germany. Everything was seizures (let's say stolen) and shipped to the USA without any regulations. I still find it far from being correct and / or legal. (the immense US advantage in technology today, is almost based to these robbed prey)
It took a long time for me to recognize the advantage of it. With "it", I mean the opening and the posible historical regard or look back, what concerns details of production, numbers, codes....
If, all these documents and informations have remained in Germany, I guess, they where lost for all times!
I can not imagine that a German Gouvernement would give access in that scale, to "the darkest time". All these probably would have been destroyed or simply locked away.
So, thanks again!
Please, keep on going with these immense love and richness for details. It would be sad if they where lost.
I stay "tuned"!
I tell you what. You may not know much about brain surgery, or street car conducting, or nuclear fusion but you sure know Lugar!
He even knows how to spell it!
Canadian gun law sucks 😢
