Drag HerStory Episode 7: Factory Girls! A Brief History of Andy Warhol's Drag Superstars
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 жов 2016
- In this weeks lesson we take a look at the fabulous ladies that made up Andy Warhol's Factory from the mid 1960's to the 1970's. These ladies were superstars in house dresses, beautiful darlings, and had low lives in high heels. Of course we are talking all about Holly Woodlawn, Candy Darling, and Jackie Curtis. The gals that made the 60's drag scene swing.

By far my favourite episode. I love Andy dearly and drag queens just as much. Thank you so, so much for making these
I absolutely love your voice and the fact that you talk about the history of drag, and do tutorials of things that every queen should know, such as sewing and doing hair
Seems like Tammie Brown may have gotten some inspiration from Holly Woodlawn.
Random observation, but adding onto that --- Holly looks like a mixture of Violet Chachki and Jinkx Monsoon.
When I heard Holly I thought Yara Sofia
Nice little program: Thank you! I remember watching RPDR and one or several of the queens saying they had no idea about gay history. Kinda shocked me that they didn't want to know their history - it's so rich. Even about Gay Pride: now it's just a big celebration, but before it was a party, it started as a protest. My first parades there were only a couple thousand people; now there was an estimated 425,000 people at Denver Pridefest. (that's just one city) If we hadn't marched, the younger generations might not have the lives they have now.
OMG, Jaymes, this video is very helpful because I was looking for information from Andy Warhol and in Spanish I did not find anything XD.
I am currently practicing my english but I am glad to have understood almost all the information. Gracias!
I adore Candy Darling! Your hair & makeup look so good here. Thanks for the positive message at the end and good luck on dragrace.
Holly is literally the drag Tommy Wiseau in the room
BEST EPISODE YET! I have always loved this era of time, and I wish that I was alive when Andy was :(

Awesome video as always! I would love to know where you get your information from because I am really interested in drag and want to learn more as well. XX
iirc, Candy Darling starred as a mermaid in a wheelchair in one of Jackie Curtis's plays. Which is where Bette Midler was inspired to use mermaids in wheelchairs, and in turn, where Rupaul's Drag Race was inspired (ie stole the concept) lol... And that, children, is the circle of life... And Jackie Curtis invented wheelchair mermaids.
lou reed/a tribe called quest playing in the background. oh my god i love you
That's Walk On The Wild Side
@@mariaconway405 duh

Jaymes, have you seen the film "I Shot Andy Warhol"?
Edie Sedgwick got me into the scene and the 60s.
What was the background music ?
hyliluna Walk on the Wild Side.
Gorgeous
Joe Dallessandro was one fine looking man!!😍😍😍
But Candy’s family buried her with her dead name. She was even discouraged from transitioning. Watch her documentary.
I thought Holly Woodlawn and Candy Darling were trans women.
According to Wikipedia, Holly and Candy are a trans women.
you don't have to be one or the other, loads of trans women are drag queens and vice versa
I kinda wish Jaymes would match her outfits to the topic. but i'm kinda glad she doesn't?... haha
Candy and Holly were not just drag queen, they were trans women, they both used Hormones
