Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan wasn't just their drummer, he was a childhood friend and a member of the A7X family, as well as one of the principal songwriters of the band
If you noticed the guitar strap the bassist had on his bass, it read "foREVer" and Guitarist Synister Gates (the guitarist who was playing the electric guitar) had "Rev" on the fretboard of his guitar which, normally, he'd have "SYN" on the fretboard of his guitar, which suggests that he'd had that particular guitar made in tribute to Rev

"How do I live? Without the ones I love? Time still turns the pages of the book, it's burned".
    That is a brilliant lyric.
And he sings it softly on purpose.
    He sings his own harmonies.
    Very underrated singer.
    It's a flawless song.
Then Syn comes in with an amazing solo. Lots of slow and sad vibrato. No fast runs. No shred. Just a solid tone.
A tone that drives home a point...
They wish to speak to their friend again. But .. hes so far away.
    Just heart wrenching sadness.

the rev (the drummer) has an incurable heart condition (enlarged heart) and was told that he might live until 30. he actually wrote a song called "fiction" 3 days before he passed away, in the lyrics he wrote "promise me you'll never feel afraid" like a message for the rest of the band. and in this song "so far away", they said "sleep tight, i'm not afraid" in respond to the lyrics the rev wrote for them, their way of saying "its okay brother, rest in peace, we promise we're not going to feel afraid". 😭

This song is dear to my heart. My son Bobby was a guitarist and founding member of his band. He passed away at age 25 and the band dissolved after that. They released one final album with the songs that were recorded at the studio just prior to his death. It was a Washington State band called Sally's Army and the last album was titled Confessions From The Coffin. And you are absolutely right about being able to look back on the footage for special memories and I'm thankful that they exist. There are lots of videos of my son playing with his band and I often look at them when I want to see him. He was an amazing young man and just like the Rev, he was loved dearly by his bandmates and friends and many many other people. R.i.p. Bobby Scanlan and Jimmy Sullivan, maybe you can have a jam session together up there.

The reason the video shows them as kids playing, is because that's what they did. They were friends from the 2nd grade. They lost more than their drummer, they lost a friend, their brother. Check out "Fiction" by A7X. He turned it in to them, 3 days before he passed. It's the song The Rev wrote entirely, as he wrote a majority of their songs. The organ, the drums, the lyrics, are his. The vocals have his original demo vocals. It's his goodbye song.

This song is my favorite song from Avenged Sevenfold. Even though they're known for their heavier sound, they have also proven countless times that they have what it takes to go to a deeper sound and a slower sound.
I really recommend you was to "Buried Alive." It was one of the last songs that Jimmy was apart of before he passed away...
When I first heard this song, it nearly got me. Just that whole tribute in general nearly got me...
    RIP Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan...

I've always been a fan of this band. My son, who was only 10 when The Rev died, is also a drummer. This crushed him. Then my brother, who is ALSO a drummer passed away in 2013. This song was awesome before, but after my brothers passing, it became so much more. It came on the radio one day not long after my brother passed on the way home from work and I had to pull over and just sob. It's been almost 7 years and the song still gets to me. Thats when you know the artist has done an awesome job.

As painful as it is to remember sometimes, you’re definitely right. It’s worth the bit of pain to remember those times. This is why I hope and have faith for heaven and an after life, life’s too short and messed up to be the end of the road at death.

I've played this song so much since my brother-in-law passed in 2018 at just 18 years old. The lyric "As soon as I'm done I'll be on my way, to live eternally" gets me every time as done the end. Victim is another A7X song that I've listened to a lot.
