  • In this video I want to show you the process of making a 3D Printed DIY 6x17 Panoramic camera. The project is fully OpenSource and can be 3D printed at home. I used my QIDI TECH I-MATE S printer with eSun PLA+ as a printing material.
I made a collection for you on printables where you can find all the files needed as well as the original design:

I've got the super angulon lens! For my 2 5x4 cameras! That's a start!

I designed a similar viewfinder, the design specifications are as follows:
Front Element is plano-concave lens - diameter 50mm, focal length minus 100
Rear Element is plano convex lens - diameter 25mm, focal length 125
Distance between lens elements 25mm, yields a magnification of 0.8.
You want to design a simple housing to hold the two elements 25mm apart, and that allows a retaining rim to be screwed onto the front element, behind which lens masks may be fitted to approximate the view with the various lens options. Of course, you need a cone for each lens option as well.
Mask sizes for the above lens combination are as follows:
A 75mm lens mask to cover the front element needs to be 50mm diameter with a 45.3mm wide by 16mm high aperture.
A 90mm lens mask to cover the front element needs to be 50mm diameter with a 37.7mm wide x 13.3 mm high aperture.
A 105mm lens mask to cover the front element needs to be 50mm diameter with a 32.4mm wide x 11.4mm high aperture.
A 150mm lens mask to cover the front element needs to be 50mm diameter with a 22.7mm wide x 8mm high aperture.
A 210mm lens mask to cover the front element needs to be 50mm diameter with a 16.2mm wide x 5.7mm high aperture.
NOTE: A 50mm front element size will be able to accommodate masks for lenses down to 72mm focal lengths. If you want to cover 65mm focal length you’d need a 55mm diameter lens with minus 100 focal length.

thanks, I wondered how the lens, cone and helicoid focus went together, and if you could fit any lens, this is what Alavandi cameras use for their camera lenses, good to know how to install a lens.

As long as the image circle is big enough you should be able to fit any lens :-) I later found out, that the Fujinon lens would have worked too with some parameters changed of the lenscone.

You didn't show any images. That's considered a felony in the UA-cam photography channel world. :)

Thank you for your video. I’m in the process of printing the camera. What size heat inserts and screws did you use to assemble it? I have been unable to find this listed anywhere. Thanks for any info?

I can't find the part that rolls the film on the right side of the camera. Is it missing from the model?

      @@billkaroly If I remember correctly I used the M65Front-Copal_0_H10_G00_ID350_r2.stl
Lensboard. It doesn't really matter which one you use, as long as it fits your shuttersize and you put the right thickness in the parameter when configuring the cone in Fusion360 👌I use a M65 17-31mm Helicoid.

@@krakencoffeeroasters3727 I made a ground glass holder by deleting parts of the body not needed. You have to mount the lens to the holder that set critical focus. Then mount the camera body and lens to shoot.

Another question... did the viewfinder you designed work? If so, can you share the stl?

    • @Lightleakz
      @Lightleakz  10 місяців тому +4

Yes, the viewfinder works like a charm! But unfortunately, the lenses I used are not available anymore, so sharing the stl makes no sense. Maybe I'll design a new, even better one :-)

Pity we didn't get to have a good look at the finished product. It's not a good idea to shoot against a large window backlight without pushing some forward light in. I just hope you don't do that when shooting with your new camera.

I'll try to give you a good look at the finished product in the next video about the 617 :-) I like the backlit look, on photos and on video. But I see your point, for a "product" video it's maybe not the best lighting.
