I feel like the Only Fools & Horses calendar is living on SERIOUSLY borrowed time at this point xD
Dan is in very serious trouble. Stuart has this year in the bag at this point.
The only thing that can save the calendar is if every dancing figure has a grass mask attached to it.
RODNEY YA BILSH!!!
the military man calender is so very hard to beat right now.
I'm hoping the battery starts to run out for maximum hilarity
🎶No income tax no VAT
Rodney fell down into day three🎶
I will say this for the Only Fools and Horses calender: the quality of the speaker on this £25 advent calender blows the shit out of that Porsche calender from a few years ago that cost way more money
Very true🤔🤔
Foam Rodney w/ good speakers VS mini Porsche model w/ bad speakers. I know which one I would prefer
@@Gleghnaaah the porshe was shit
It’s the same stuff that’s in the £10 cards at paper-chase that I got for 50p when it closed down
It's kind of weird to me that this is day 3 and they still haven't begun putting the barbie stuff on the military man. I think he'd look fabulous in thos shoes.
There's even a little bar with a cocktail table for armyman to hang out in!
The pineapple stickers are supposed to be a pineapple-shaped ice bucket which Del Boy had on his bar at home despite that it is still a terrible advent calendar gift lol
I thought he kept his cigars in it
@@lestat1uk yes
@@lestat1uk The cigars were in the dog-shaped ceramic holder.
I think I started watching these ashens/nerdcubed Advent calendar videos in 2017. Didn't think it would turn into a Christmas tradition in our house, but here we are. Thanks for continuing this again guys!
Shame the forfeits this year are PANTS!
@@CricketEngland They're not even forfeits, they're a final chance to make the day a tie rather than losing.
@@alansmithee419 yes you would have though they could have come up with something funny like the cheese, I guess Dan doesn’t want to get sick again after becoming lactose intolerant
ditto here! i now can't hear "the first noel.. the angel did" without interrupting with a fart noise.
It has for my house too....but this years callenders are pretty crap so I'm now the only one watching this years
I'm actually really digging the military men calendar so far. As a kid I'd be pretty excited to see what guys will fit these backpacks and gadgets, and the one guy that's come out so far was pretty good.
I would've thought day 3 would be guns though.
yeah, it seems like its' something a kid would actually have fun with all month long.
I feel like days 1 and 3 should have been men, and day 2 should have been guns. Save the backpacks for after you've got the pieces for a firefight.
@@Joe90h Yeah the order could use a little work probably but overall it's very promising. Would be better to save 4 guys worth of backpacks and gear for when you actually have 4 guys to wear them.
There should not be any surprise about what kind of prize will be in each day. There's a picture on the back showing the inside. So the only question is exactly what kind of action figure and what accessories are in each day
Judging by the pictures, the advenskalendar thing is the old lemon juice invisible ink thing
Weirdly, it says to use milk- but yeah, same principle. Probably the first time I've seen milk recommended for that
It's pretty similar. In this case, you are supposed to brush a secret message onto a piece of paper with milk and then make it visible with a hairdryer. The instruction also explains why the heat makes the milk visible.
Which I assume goes with the pH paper from yesterday. Paint a message with that soda instead?
It would've been much cooler if they had put in one of these invisible ink pens with a UV light on the other end, which makes it readable. Although UV light is not harmless, but so isn't heating paper.
@@sebastianwlodarczykapparently it also works with urine.
But yeah "Geheimtinte" means secret ink.
Screw it, in the style of the old League of Extraordinarily Crap Calendars videos, I'm going to keep a running score/leaderboard of all four calendars! SO, here's how things stand as of Day 3:
1. MILITARY MEN - 3
2. Only Fools & Horses - 2
3. Woozle Goozle - 1 (picked up its first point today, hooray!)
4. Barbie - 0
...at least there's no Wera calendar to crush everyone in the first week of Advent xD
I predict 24 days of MILITARY MEN points tbh
@@Micheal_Porter It could very well run the table. Dan might have put all his faith in the ONE Barbie figure in his calendar, and even that might end up being crap xD
Add another 2 lines so it doesn't spoil the video maybe?
Or, we could just watch the video?
@@Tactical_Hotdog on day 22 I'm not gonna remember what the score total is, so this is helpful to have
The puzzle punishment feels too gentle after the tears of charcoal cheese and powdered drink mixes but given Dan literally became lactose intolerant after that I understand...just miss the hilarious seaaonal torture I suppose ;)
I was also hoping for a food-based punishment calendar
Or alcohol. At very least if they're drunk they might enjoy the calenders more
@@lydiabourne8341Risk then is compounding lactose intolerance with liver damage
The mystery of the German Science Calendar for Children day 3: It's a brush and the experiment wants you to write secret letters using milk. The task is to write the message with milk on paper, then wait for it to dry (making it nearly invisible). A heat source can then be used to make the milk visible again (I'm not sure how this turns out). Definitely sounds like some experiment I would have loved to see on video…
I mean the explanation seems to make sense. And it's quite well done for kids science not dumbed down into oblivion
ye, if one does understand german, it's funny to see how ashens throws away some potential tie-breakers since the Objects with the experiments don't seem that bad
and while the first one might a bit dull, but i would go so far and say everyone has a red coloured pencil at this age
Yep. I thought it would be lemon juice (I think that's what we used as kids) but this is the explanation for sure.
@@enisra_bowmanpretty sure I only have old plain "lead" pencils that have the graphite broken to oblivion between multiple moves, any time I actually write I use either ink or a graphics tablet
@@wteff8586 Yep, I'm just not sure how it works with milk. Might have to do a secret experiment as soon as everyone else is out the house... Good thing I'm a responsible adult with brushes and milk in the refrigerator. And yes, I expected citrus juice, too. It seems to be the way more widely known "secret ink" but at the same time is also rarer and feels way more wasteful compared to a bit of milk.
'What kind of shitty crackers are you getting?'
Are we sure Dan watches the channel? I mean, he is literally wearing the company sweater.
It just isn’t a proper Christmas without these calendar-offs.
Imagine a transformers calender with a transformer in each day and on the 24th you get instructions on how to combine them all into one massive model
A 24-robot combiner would be _nuts._
I could see that be a thing with a Power Rangers calendar, not so much Transformers
Transformers had the constructicons and whatever the autobot one was called, where 5 transformers combine to make a giant one Voltron style @@thesteelrodent1796
That's literally what buying an entire set of Super Sentai Minipla is (granted they usually come in only 6-8 box sets (with 2 boxes supposed to be Red's entire vehicle being separated into two parts).
The brush is for lemon juice writing. A classic fun experiment. If you write with lemon juice it is not visible but you can get the text visible if you heat the paper.
ngl the soldier calander might genuinely be the best calander they've had, each day feels meaty and meaningful
i feel like the military men calendar would be decent for someone who's into, like, sci-fi model building. Some good greebles in there.
Ashens said on Stream that Nerdcube chose very badly this year. I'm Starting to see why.
To think that we're sitting here after a decade of advent. Heres to a decade more
I love Dan's cuckoo clock and I look forward to the episode it strikes.
i lost my cat ...these vids helped me ...thank you ...i always look foreword to this series
take care. just over a month ago, Cancer... she was only 8... Hope you cope better then I did.
Sorry to hear your loss.
Hope you find them soon.
I was one of the 1000 children every year who are born without a backpack hole.
I'm already thinking that the military calendar should be in a 1v3 against the rest of them... and it'd probably still win. Genuinely seems like it'd be worth the money for someone interested in it
What it says (With my Danish comprehension of German) is that you can use the brush to write on paper with milk. Then you can use a hair dryer to make it go brown and talks about how the milk molecules reacts with the heat to change color. So the experiment is basically like one of those old "kids spy tricks". I think lemon juice works as well if I remember correctly.
Basically only the army men calendar seems to give something good until now
I think the satellite dish was supposed to go on that bipod
Far too late now as you’ve already filmed them all, but you could’ve used the Only Fools theme tune as a timer for the puzzle
Are you from the future or something?
They film this day by day don't cha know
@@angrybidoof847 Oh you sweet advent child... :P
@@KernelLeak i think @angrybidood847 is yanking your chain :D
OBVIOUSLY they film them day by day. The jumper smell on day 26 is abhorrent.
Current Advent Score:
(Spoilers)
.....
Nerd³: 1
Ashens: 3
(I'm counting their first tie as 1 point each)
The bits from the army men box unlocked hidden memories, I had basically all of those. I don't remember if they were from "CORPS" branded toys, or from one of the many GI Joe knockoff toys you could get at a dollar store here in the US, but the molds they are using are oooooold.
BTW the sattelite bit goes on the turret (Which is probably supposed to be some kind of radar, but it was a laser gun to me!)
Who's the lady eating crisps? A true Christmas mystery
The backpack looked a bit ghostbusters!!
I'd have been genuinely exited to get that military men calendar
Yes! First win to Ashens!!!!!!
Never heard of Fools and Horses. Probably never came across the pond. It's absurd and I love it.
Insane. I love this series
Military Men is pretty awesome, I would love it when I was a kid. Probably would love it even now.
Is it just me or is the dish suppost to go on what he called a turret as a portable communication set up?
Yeah, but these are pre-recorded so there's little reason to point it out.
looks like you can put them together however you want
Anyone else seeing three Grass Masks on the bookcase shelves behind them?
This would have been so much more fun if you'd gone for the exercise forfeits…
I'm deeply disturbed that neither Ashens or Nerd Cubed remembered Del Boy's Pineapple cigar jar or the fact the Del had a habit of drinking weird cocktails while trying to be a Yuppy.
love the sad Christmas lady and crisps at the end
I think the military men is doing amazingly. So far all things have been a decent figure, or accesories that actually look okay and are in perfect scale to the figures. If I was a kid, I wouldn't mind getting that calendar. I think the off-brandedness of the figures really helps. They don't need to resemble anything in particular.
This series is my favorite part of the holidays EVERY year! I emit joyous sounds with the first notification!! 😂🎉
These things are a goddamn joy, every year.
(Not doing the whole thing - as this took far too long to transcribe.)

die grundlage für die geheimtinte ist milch. milch einget sich deshaltz so gut für das experiment, weil sie in getrocknetem zustand auf einem wieflen blatt papier nahezu unsichtbar ist. also genau was man von einer geheimtinte erwarten würde.
The basis for the secret ink is milk. The reason milk works so well for the experiment is because it is almost invisible when dried on a small sheet of paper. So exactly what you would expect from a secret ink.
7:30 I think that is lemon juice. If you write something in it then apply heat after it dries it changes color. So "invisible" ink
The metal puzzles are genuinely fun, I decided to look some up, here in the USA you can buy 36 of them for $21 (about 17 pounds).
The pineapple sticker is of the plastic ice bucket on Del Boy's drinks bar.
I have one that was my granddad's on my hatch lol
No he kept his cigarette in it
@@CricketEngland I know he did, but it's still a plastic ice bucket lol
My granddad hid bourbon biscuits in his 😂
I don't care what anyone thinks, Chrismas doesn't truly start until these two do their calendars!
I think the brush is for doing lemon juice invisible ink. If you brush lemon juice onto paper, it'll dry and be invisible, but if you then heat it with a hair dryer, it reacts with the cellulose fibers in the paper and become visible.
Dan's "I'd be so bad at Taskmaster" quip..... well now he's got me thinking about how hilarious he (or indeed Stuart) would be on that show
Ah the amazing Crow gun! Merry Christmas 🤣
The first noel, the angel did say was "I'm a reliable reindeer!"
'Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. OK, it's too thick' as the actress said to the Bishop.
Now I really wanna see these two on Taskmaster.......
Those two, plus Barry and Eli. Barshens Taskmaster!
_Geheimtinte_ basically means _secret ink._ The explanation, summed up, reads: Dunk brush in milk, write secret message on sheet of white paper. White milk is not readable on white paper. Recipient can use a hair dryer (or another source of heat) to make the milk go brown and read the message.
I would've been disappointed by this.
Weird that they say use milk. Typically this experiment is done with lemon juice.
If you wait a few days you can smell the message, and it says "please god throw me away"
Today my fancy German chocolate calendar gave me a chocolate ball filled with whiskey cream. Quite nice, though I preferred yesterday's champagne one. Still one of the best calendars I've had though.
Random thought but, is the pineapple supposed to be that ice bucket that Del had on his bar & kept his cigars in?
I think the paint brush is the classic invisible ink experiment where you take some lemon juice and then write with it on paper, wait for it to dry and then apply heat. Usually a hair dryer or old school light bulb. Though the one that pops up when you put it into google is frankly terrifying and tells you to use an iron and ironing board. I guess that's good if you want to also burn your house down.
That only fools and horses advent is shocking. 😂😂😂. One day these two need to get an extremely strong alcohol calendar for punishment.
I might be thinking in to this to much, in fact I'm sure I am, but I think the gun thing is a laser painter and the computer dish thing is the communication bobber for it to guide the missile.
I think the simple fact that in the 80s a $3.00 GI Joe action figure had neck, full shoulder, elbow, waist, full hip, and knee articulation vs. now when it's a miracle to find any figure with more than one way shoulders and one way hip articulation is stand-alone proof that all things were better in the 80s.
On the flip-side. Transformers went from being the equivilant to plastic bricks to having a fair amount of articulation, including ankle articulation.
$3 in 1980 is $11.20 now. I feel like you could probably find a decent figure for that.
@@mgb360 A quick bit of Googling netted the DC action figures who have no waists or elbows or hips for $10.99... so... pretty much... no.
@Randalor You have a point, but you gotta admit every TF toy Hasbro makes below MP level is still pretty much junk
Today my calender of "24 electronic games" me something that could actually be considered a game in the loosest possible sense, as it makes a red and green LED flicker rapidly until you press the button at which point either one or the other would stay lit. It's digitally flipping a coin but also makes a good guessing game
Ashens coming for Little Alex Horne's gig
Three days in, and unless the Barbie calendar has some other little figurines in it, like little pets for Barbie or something, I suspect the military men calendar is gonna stroll off with this one. I'm actually rather impressed that the supplies doors have, so far, produced chunky plastic accessories and not the crappy paper flags and stickers I expected them to. Meanwhile, the science calendar is just disappointing, even for an advent calendar. It's not quite Paw Patrol levels yet, but it's looking more and more like the old magic calendar from 2018. Still, early days yet, maybe it's got some better stuff in store for us.
I think a big part of the disappointment of the science calender is that without being able to read german they are literally missing half the calender (the experiment). I'm a little sad they haven't broken out their phones to translate the text though.
Yeah, that's fair. When you think about it, it does seem an odd choice to buy a calendar that's going to require some reading to use, when it's in a language you don't read or speak. Still, this is only day three. Maybe they'll think to use their phones to translate as they get deeper into things.@@Altines
Ashens - "ow its long and thin"
Dan -"Same"

The German Science on is so completely unhinged, and I'm here for it!! 😂😂😂
On the third day of Advent, these two blokes gave to me
Tech gear and a brush
Backpacks, shoes and dancers
And Some guff that is generic
I feel like the pineapple was on the show as a jar that delboy kept cigars in, in his home, at the bar thing they had..... And the cocktail....well....yuppie time.... Del boy, out on the town... 😂😂😂
The pineapple is the ice holder on top of Dels flat living room bar, famous 70s household item
What a brush.
Come for Advent stay for InfoStat
german here. todays instructions are about invisible ink, as when you write something on paper using milk-which is what the brush is for-leaves no indication on the paper, until the paper is heated up with a blowdryer.
the explanation given is, that" the added energy breaks down milk molecules to a point where only carbon-remains are left over"
yay
so the brush is for PH writing, using water and lemon juice you write out a message, then once dry you can heat it up and it will turn brown and readable for a bit
pretty sure Nerdcubed bricked the puzzle when they forced it at the start
The manual says to use milk, and then apply a hairdryer to make it appear.
the german text indicates using milk, but yes ;)
The booklet did use milk on paper(with the brush) as ink. ... and heat to turn the dried milk brown to read it...
The calendar tat level this year is very high, but the superb quality of Ashen's Poundland xmas knit is mind blowing.
I'm a reliable reindeer!
I forgot to post yesterday, but that one backpack that was obviously a GI Joe one belonged to the Alley Viper.
And thus, with the loss of day 3 of Advent, Dan slowly deteriorated into obscurity….. fading slowly into nothing more than a Reliable Reindeer ™️
bingeing RO HoGs, I felt a disturbance and ZOOM here I am. Advent day 3
The grass masks are appearing in larger numbers each day on the shelves!
The satellite device looks like a remote for either a drone or a missile system like the one you get in COD.
Just kept hoping against hope that someone would put the satellite dish thing on the ‘crow shooting gun’.
The description on this video is interesting to say the least
Don't want to be 'that guy' , but it was Nelson Mandela House (not Tower)!
It was in Bristol as well not Peckham
I like the woman eating chips (or 'crisps' if you enjoy being weird about things) in the outro 'card'. Very... beige.
give him the stick DON'T GIVE HIM THE STICK
For the science one : it's "invisible ink" lemon juice I believe it wants you to use the brush to spread then when heated it reveals the drawing. Still terrible, but that advent calender really is just a book with 24 home science experiments, that happens to have some trash with it.
All day today I've been singing the Only Fools and Horses theme tune.
Send help. While I fetch the suitcase from the van.
The Woozle Goozle science experiment is "invisible ink" made with lemon juice. When you heat up the paper the lemon juice will change colour, revealing whatever it is you've written or painted with it, thus the brush.
Where the hell does Dan buy his Christmas crackers if he thinks that pink Barbie necklace would be a bad gift to have inside a cracker?! Virtually every cracker set you buy has the cheapest, poorest quality plastic tat imaginable! And they haven't changed in 30 years
Nappy boys.
The pineapple is an ice bucket.
That Del kept his cigars in
@@CricketEngland I was thinking that, but it was a dog's head. That prop was actually in every episode.
that "science" one was with milk, not water - the list at the top mentions you need "milch" (milk) as well as the brush, paper, and "wärmequelle" which I assume is a heatsource of some sorts.
I think the science instructions are something like use the brush to paint lemon juice and when its dried, use the hair dryer to make it appear brown. Aka, invisible ink.
I think.
Day 3 is probably used to do the invisible ink experiment. Guessing it will ask for lemon juice.
I think the pineapple was Del's Ice Cube bowl
Wow, an MST3K reference in the last vid and a GI Joe PSA quote in this one.
if you need any help transalting the pages into english, take a photo with your phone camera, run the photo through google lens and then choose "translate" and it wil magically translate it for you. The brush is for writing messages with milk, and then when you dry it with a hairdryer the message becomes visible
Wow
