Lyrics:
Dr. Heckyll works late at the laboratory
Where things are not as they seem
Dr. Heckyll wishes nothing more desperately
Than to fulfill all of his dreams
Letting loose with a scream in the dead of night
As he's breaking new ground
Trying his best to unlock all the secrets
But he's not sure what he's found
Dr. Heckyll is his own little guinea pig
'Cos they all think he's mad
Sets his sights on the search of a lifetime
And he's never, never sad
Whoa oh, it's off to work he goes
In the name of science and all its wonders....
This is the story of Dr. Heckyll and Mr. Jive
They are a person who feels good to be alive
This is the story of Dr. Heckyll and Mr. Jive
Believes the underdog will eventually survive
I just love how much fun Men at Work have in their music videos. Its nice.
+superQuizzie - As Madness always did. Something very lacking in today's music.
+superQuizzie as band not so
Yeah
452 haters doesn't make ANY sense either...@@willhooks1114
I do play some current music, for better or worse,at times to see what's going on out there, and in fairness there are a few current day pop singers or groups who seem to have some fun with their videos,George Ezra for one.
With happy memories, let's all remember the late sax/flue/organ/piano/synthesizer player Gregory Norman Ham 09/27/53 - 04/19/12. Lost but not forgotten.
Saludos desde CHILE...Hermosa Australia..!!
An underestimated talent. RIP GH.
RIP 🙏🙏
One of Men At Work's underrated songs which rarely was played on radio.
I think Johnny B. Good is another forgotten and few played song on radio 1983 was the best year through the decade hits surely
German radio stations used to play it a bit but it's sadly disappeared in recent years. It was specifically wanting to have this song that made me buy their Greatest Hits album
@@JoseMunoz-kj5pu Be good johnny..? not johnny B goode lol
@@charlienorton2337 yeah

Thank you Men At Work for the music and memories of all time. RIP Greg Ham.
Didnt know - makes me sad. Miss them and miss the days
For all you that lived through this Golden Age, know that we were most certainly blessed to have experienced it. But my heart aches for all the innocence and hope that filled the 1980's, that seems to have all but disappeared from the world. Rest in peace, Greg Ham, and my love to you all.
I hate to say this but in hindsight it was Reagan's fault
I was 10 when Reagan was elected.
it was actually Joe Brandon's fault.@@nernguan995
I was there as a young teenager. What an incredible time.
The first time I heard this song, I was working overnight security in a shipyard. I was doing my rounds, and suddenly I heard the footsteps in the beginning of the song. It made me go back and look for whoever was walking around. It made me feel really stupid when I realized it was on the tape. It did turn out to be one of my favorite songs though, as long as I didn't listen to it at work. :-)
scary burrr
2 Years too late, but good on you for listening to Men at Work at work.
Absolutely hilarious!! Lol
“Who can it be now?”
This is the story of Dr. Bright & Mr. Jive
RIP Greg Ham.
Music misses you.
Lol, no it doesn't
Charles Messina Oh, so i would guess that YOU are music then, huh? No, i don’t think so. Why you gotta come here and ruin everything? Bad boi.
He definitely was an amazing Musician Absolutely
@@charlesmessina5253 a shit comment from a shit human being
Miss him Greg ham
Jeez, this song is underrated. R.I.P greg ham. You are missed
"He loves the world, except for all the people" Me too, Dr. H 🤣
I love how, like Dr. Heckle and Mr. Jive in the song, the song switches between a sad mysterious tone and an upbeat one
A band filming a music video could have only had this much fun in the 1980s. Wish music were this much fun today. Thank you Men at Work for the great tunes.
Yes, what an optimistic, stylish and fun decade. In some ways, more modern than today, since we escaped from the damp 70s.
Greg Ham hamming it up beautifully RIP mate ❤️❤️❤️
Great memories never die. I will remember them.
@@Kryks420 I was there
This song is about the introvert who is the center of the party when it's time to "turn it on". Dr Hekyl is the introvert. Mr. Jive is the center of attention if only for a moment that all true introverts are used to. Two sides of the same person. Every introvert lives this way, and Colin Hay (of Men at Work) was brilliant to write a song about it. Yay Men at Work!!!
this reminds me of a novel called "dr jekyll and mr hyde" in a way because it showed a ambiguous personality

Story of my life.. I am an actress when I'm with other people.. only truly myself when I'm alone.. nobody knows the real me.. not a single person

John Huddleston Yikes! I had forgotten. He was such a cutie.
He was awesome to say the least!

I have to say I loved what he brought to the band. His flute and sax etc... was really fun and memorable
The chorus of this song is fantastic!! WOW!!!
"...believes the underdog will eventually survive..." Love these awesome nerds...such trailblazers of their day and their message has been proven to be true over and over since.
Hi Kristin,hope you’re okay ?
A great band... Great Singers, Great Drummer, Great Saxophone player, Great Guitarists, Great compositions......just Awesome...

I did not mean to impart any sort of nastiness, my friend. I was simply referring to the fact I was studying the popular story 'The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde' and had decided to listen to this, leaving the, comment as a lighthearted joke.
Good Luck in your life, buddy -try to be wholesome :)
I like yours! Have a good day :)
i dont revise for my tests... experience tells me it doesnt work for me.i just go in and answer stuff. if i dont know it i think a few minutes and write what i can remember. i'm on the 2nd year of my degree so i mustve done something right

A sweet, positive song.
Yes, it is good to be alive!

God Bless and May Peace and Grace be with all.
I totally agree.
Men At Work had the best music videos. Down Under, Overkill, Who Can It Be Now, and now this... what a masterpiece! And the best sax too... RIP, Greg Ham.
Yes RIP Greg Ham and Colin Hay, I miss seeing you back in Arizona...Hope the family's still doing well there.

My dad got this album when it came out so it was on frequent rotation at my house throughout my childhood. I feel so fortunate to have had a musician for a dad who chose great music for me to grow up with which caused me to have a very wide range of music tastes. This song brings back great memories. Such a fantastic band and very underrated.
Men At Work had so much talent, energy and charisma!
Men at Work has their own particularity and they are one of the best bands of the XX Century, 1980s to be more precise.
Ah, the 80s. What a time to be alive.
My favourite men at work, now 30yrs past still enjoying your numbers.
Greg Ham's nutty professor routine in this video was brilliant. And I dunno why, but I have always loved the very end, with just the voice, vocoder and drums.
One of my all-time favorite songs. Released on August 3, 1983 reaching #28 on September 17. Thank you.
This song is so brilliant man.
One of the Great Chorus lines EVER.....
Our bands in 1982 only weren't only just excellent musicians but also excellent actors as well..I remember it all just as if it was yesterday ✌️🥳😎💕💯
I Was fortunate to see this band live in the Jacksonville coliseum in the mid 80s, totally underrated, they put on a great live show!
They really liked the mad scientist trope back in the 1980s.
Yeah.
Science!
GRACIAS..Australia..por esta Gran banda.cariños desde Santiago de Chile.
Of all the songs produced by Australian-based bands, this one definitely has the most boy scout uniforms.
Mhm.
GOOD TO KNOW
Well at least one of them came out as gay so maybe that explains it?
wait, what? who?
Merliginary who?
Awwww....I remember this one....Takes me back to a simpler, easier time....Loved these guys....
@AJ Maverick i didn't realize you were a such a comedian
I miss Men at Work.. .. they were so amazing, like their songs.

There's a moral in all this.
But, God only knows what the HELL it is.
Seeing the video makes sense but if I heard it on the radio I most definitely would be confused as all hell
This song is about getting drunk and cutting loose.
dr jekyll and mr hyde
MercyMash Not really the moral, but the inspiration for. The potion is alcohol. It makes Dr. Heckyll smooth and not nervous.
the under dog will eventually survive
For years I've listened to this song but this is the first time I've seen the video for it. It's quite goofy and charming at the same time. Men At Work sure knew how to inject comedy into some of their music videos.
It was such great Fun during the 80's
Lisa Mccall Please don't include Thatcher's reign in that statemant please don't.
A time when musicians could laugh at themselves making music videos and in turn made it more real than the look at me videos of today
+Right Stuff I miss the days when music videos were fun....the bands back then knew how to be entertainers....
+fearaffect Agree, also love watching Madness videos.
+Right Stuff And the band actually played their own instruments! Pretty radical, huh

Love this song.
I think the film clip is a good reflection of a few artist enjoying their time in the sun
Why can't music videos of today be this awesome. Music videos of the 80's, 90's, and 2000's are awesome.
A very distinctive voice and sound... ohhhh... long live 80's music!!
Unique, best australian band ever!! I love you forever!!!
Great song
I remember getting the CARGO tape for my 13th birthday, when it came out. I also got SYNCHRONICITY by the Police
Both BRILLIANT albums!
Synchronicity 2 - fav song 👍🏻
Wasn't so wonderful to be live at that time with such good music.
Men at work eternos! Sensacional!
When I hear Men at Work it also makes me happy to be alive
Men At Work...THE band that made me fall in love with music in the second grade. Cargo was the first album I had on cassette.

One of my favorite songs and music videos!
I took up the name Jive because of this song. Man, Men at Work is amazing. This is my favorite song by them.
Oh how I've love that band from the first time I heard them. RIP Greg, you were a total stud.
men at work be the best.
this song is in a CAE exam textbook from the mid 2000s. My students understood the words fine enough with just audio, but they enjoyed having this as a video supplement to spice things up, too ;-)
sou apaixonado nessa banda
I love the phrase "believes the underdog will eventually survive"
In 2023, people still appreciate this chartbuster by the Aussie band Men At Work that was released this month in 1983!
I've always loved this song. It's been so long since I've seen the video that I didn't realize that Dr. Heckyll turned into a smaller David Lee Roth.
RIP Greg Ham.Not only a great musician but also very funny.
I just love Colin and Greg Ham so much!!!
Hi Tane,hope you’re okay ?

Kind of miss being 16 and playing this album the whole summer.
Yep. Bought Cargo on vinyl, as soon as it came out. Almost all the songs are great. This should have been a bigger hit. I wish these guys would have lasted a bit longer. I miss the 80's.
Always loved Men At Work! Such fun music! Best decade ever!

My Favorite From Men at Work
Men at Work has a special place in my heart. Though the Beatles are my favorite band of all time, Men at Work was the first band I actively listened to at a time when music was nowhere in my life. To this day, nothing sounds like them.
A mi viejo la gusta esta cancion :3
Excelentes canciones!!!
This Chorus ROCKS....
My daughter who is 9 mentioned Robert Louis Stevenson and Dr Jeckyll and Hyde and I broke into this song. I showed her this video and she loved it.
Men at Work only has 4 songs on the American Top 40 and they all went to top 10 back in 1982 and 1983. They also have two platinum LPs, and they are Business as Usual and Cargo. Who Can It Be Now?, and Down Under are chart toppers at #1, the latter is certified as of Grammy Award for the best song and new artist for 1983. Overkill peaked at number 3 and It's A Mistake get as high as number 6, both in 1983. I heard Be Good Johnny from the LP, Business as Usual, and this song, Dr. Heckle and Mr. Jive from the LP, Cargo a lot, but each of them did failed to get to the top 40 in 1982 and 1983, respectively.
The best thing about this is actually the giant harmonica at the beginning.
PS: Love the song, always have.
Mom, always told me, "these are the best years of your life", Momma, "you were right"! Good times & great music!
Hi dear,hope you’re okay ?
This takes me back to my senior year of high school... life was so much easier then! Great to see this again!

I really miss this type of music and the wonderful videos that came with it. My mother passed away about 12 years ago and she loved many of the songs Men at Work put out. It is a great memory of her for me, we had at least this we could share.
This song has such a good chorus
