    The enemy element bug seems to check for the enemy's weakness. Ex. undead's paralasis instead checks resistance with the "fire" element (its weakness) rather than the "status" element. This makes one enemy in particular deal non-elelemtal (therefore, no armor can resist it) death on attack (super fun).

    Small recommendation, next time downmix the music about 3 to 6dBs. A few times your voice and the music were fighting for attention.

    A fascinating video, and a bit of a nostalgia trip for me. I had the original NES version way back when. It was given to me by a friend at school who had been frustrated by it. It was a whole new experience for me and I have been into the genre ever since, even though the game had a lot of flaws. In particular I remember the status effect spells failing every time, and the invisible woman. Now I see that the game was even more flawed than I remember, with quite a few coding errors. I have been meaning to play one of the rereleases at some point, I just haven't gotten around to it.

      I'd divide the remakes into two categories: Faithful and Modernized.
      For the faithful remakes, where nothing really changes except fixing all those problems and quality of life updates, that'd be the WonderSwan Colour remake, and the PS1 remake, which was based off of the WSC versions. Nearly all of the problems and broken mechanics were fixed in the WSC version, so it's technically the first version of the game that actually has the developer's vision realized. All the special weapons work, none of the spells are literally broken, and the calculations are all working correctly. So either the WSC or PS1 versions are the best to use for the faithful experience.
      Starting with the GBA version, this is where we get into the modernized category. Rather than having 9 different charge counts to keep track of, instead you just have one unified MP stat. This alone makes it play like a more modern FF title. However, the introduction of Ethers does mean you will never really run out of MP, since you can just buy them and use them as often as you like. You can choose not to use Ethers, and it'll be about the same balance as it was before, but even in the Pixel Remaster, which goes back to spell-charges, Ethers still exist. The GBA version also introduces new bonus dungeons and super bosses, which adds a significant challenge to the game. The PSP version is based off the GBA version, so it has all the same content, except it adds another new bonus dungeon, the Labyrinth of Time, and has even more polish (better graphics, music, etc.). So, I'd say the PSP version is the best for the modernized experience.

    Oddly enough, I just always thought the attack status "bug" on the NES version wasn't a bug, but the result of an imperfect system for a protection item being specific to "spells" in a similar way to using a fire spell vs swinging a glowing hot sword. Sure, the spell may encounter nullification from magic resistance, but hot steel is still going to burn flesh. Or, in a better example ingame, where XXX and RUB essentially *do* the same thing, but aren't the same thing, and there's an enemy immune to one but not the other. But in this equation, one is an added effect while the other is a spell.
    Like, to your example, a cocktrice attacking and causing stone, they aren't _casting_ stone, so an item like the Ageis Shield isn't blocking a spell. With, of course, the excption of a RIBBON, which blocks every status across the board regardless - a result of essentially checking every status box and calling it a day.

    I remember using that peninsula to power level in FF1 back in the NES days. Once you got some strong enough spells you could exploit the weaknesses of the monsters that appeared there. :)

      Same here on most versions Sadly the PIXEL version of FF1 pretty much removed ALL the glitches in game including the PoP itself for over leveling at the start on the Pixel version the Hall of Giant's on the way to the Lich boss IE battles occur EVERY step you take isn't in the Pixel remaster of FF1.
      YET the PoP from FF4 STILL exists in the Pixel version in that enemies from later in game show up on 1 spot North of Mt Ordeals to over lv Palom/Porom to LV60+ if you wanted to despite that both in the Pixel version are temporary party members.
      While the Pixel version of FF1 is supposed to be based on the NES game the spells from the NES version that NEVER do work properly DO work on the Pixel version of the game.

    makes you wonder if the high level creep area is considered to be "an exploit" you kill 4 zombulls a few times with harm and fire2 and bam the game gets that much more easy

    Actually, for status effects going through immunities on the NES version, the reason is simple: immunities don't exist on the NES version. They are instead very, very low odds. 3 out of 256, to be precise.
    So yes, technically, you could (and can) BANE Chaos if RNG is in your favor.

    Pixel Remasters still have the Crit bug too, so indeed may be intentional.

      Or a case of Ascended Glitch, where since their goal is to replicate the original experience they decided to keep some glitches deliberately.

    • @shsrpr
      @shsrpr 2 роки тому

      @@mauricesteel4995 But in that case, why would they have fixed every single other bug that the original game had, including the Peninsula of Power which was a glitch itself, that was Ascended into every single other version of the game.

    • @shsrpr
      @shsrpr 2 роки тому

      It should also be noted that Pixel Remaster added a new bug that wasn't in any other version of the game. The White Magic spell, Fear, does absolutely nothing, there is no function assigned to it. There is no morale system in PR. Fear was used to lower the morale score and cause enemies to flee. In PR, all non-boss enemies have a percentage chance to flee no matter the situation, and Fear doesn't affect that at all either.

    • @Bowshewicz
      @Bowshewicz 2 роки тому

      @@shsrpr I can't comment on why they chose to fix certain bugs and not others, but it's worth noting that the game data does include the intended critical hit values. I can't think of any explanation for including this data, especially at a time when storage space was at such a premium, if it was not intended to be used.

    I have a vehement hatred for Final Fantasy I due to the sheer amount of bugs still present in the game. No matter how many times Square releases the game, they refuse to fix any of the bugs and that makes me irrationally angry.

    • @costby1105
      @costby1105 Рік тому

      If you're talking about the NES/Famicom original version there really isn't anyone internally that they have who has the coding knowledge of Assembly to fix it. The Main Programemer, Nasir Gebelli left Square after Secret of Mana and mostly everyone else would taught new coding. It is a miracle that we even got an official translation of Seiken Densetsu 3(Trials of Mana) on the Collection of Mana. By the time Dawn of Souls released most of the bugs were fixed and the ones that remain seem to have been intentionaly kept. Most of them were fixed in the Wonderswan or PSX versions.

      @@costby1105 What of the Pixel Remake?

    • @costby1105
      @costby1105 Рік тому

      @@MasterZebulin The only bug that remains from the original release is the Critical Hit bug and may have been kept intentionally. The Penisula of power has been fixed as the Pixel remaster calculated how encouter zones work. The main glitch i've seen on the pixel remaster is the one where you turn a boss into 5 gobilins. Most of the GBA Final Fantasy Remakes/ Ports fixed the old glitches while introducing one or two of their own. Final Fantasy VII has never been fixed is far as I know however and it is the tied for the most broken Final Fantasy Game alongside Final Fantasy VI.

    For the NES version ~~Run from imps at level one for a couple fights. Then run from imps at level 2. Do it alot. And you will notice there is something to it. After level 2 youl almost always escape. But at level 1 it will take 2-3 sets of the entire party trying to run. After your the level the Game seems to want you to be at that point. Youl be able to run easily. It's clear you are wrong about what you think and this game was coded at a level over your head.. you won't be running from this fact sorry bud
