@@andrewlilley3660 A Harvard study: Association of Animal and Plant Protein Intake With All-Cause and Cause Specific Mortality.
Researchers brought in a large group of people and they looked at the protein they ate and who lived and who died. They controlled for the cholesterol and the fat so they could look just at the effect of the protein. Conclusion: Animal protein is always associated with higher mortality. Plant protein was inversely associated with all cause mortality.

@Dookie Bookie It doesn't compare to real meat, the food companies are the only ones profiting. They can sell you a much cheaper product, much less nutritious, and make the same amount of money. It's all about their profit, not your health. Look at the people who eat the most plant foods, it is the poor. Look at the foods most Americans eat, it is mostly plant based. They go to a fast food place. even if they order a real hamburger and a large fry, they get a little, thin patty of meat, and the rest is plant based, including the fries, cooked in vegetable oils.

The BROAD study is a study of the Whole Food plant based diet: A randomized controlled trial (The Gold Standard of Studies)
Outcome: The WFPB diet can be seen as an effective, safe option for weight loss and chronic disease risk and quality of life improvements. Key foods included whole grains, legumes, vegetables and fruits.
No mandated exercise or calorie counting was implemented.
The WFPB group had a self-reported increased quality of life, they decreased their medication and blood glucose and their cholesterol dropped. The plant-based group had left the 3-month study 19 pounds lighter, but at 6 months were down about 27 lbs. The BROAD study, however, lasted only 3 months, yet the plant-based group not only lost significant weight, they kept it off. This study ran from August 2014 to 2015 and was extended to 2017.

My late dad smoked most his life (passed away at 88) since he was 13, had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, rarely watched his diet (loved fatty steaks) and always added more salt in his food. Could be his good genes but he always lived by this rule: eat until 80% full. He was always slim, never overweight his entire life and stayed active especially outdoors which he loved nature and gardening. Since he got his daily Vit D from the sun, he didn’t have osteoporosis, which both my grandmother and mom had.

My remaining 2 questions: Seeking answers! While I want to recommend "all-plant diets" 'with confidence, I have a couple lingering doubts re. iron and EPA... (read on ... for my 2 questions):
    1. many individuals who feel depleted seem to regain energy with a steak, maybe once a month. I observe these are [people with a collection of genetic markers associated with the type O blood type.] -- Could it be that there is some form of iron that comes from red meat that is needed for these individuals, who lack some enzyme perhaps unable to harvest the iron in dark greens? Should these type O's eat meat, not as a macronutrient food, but as a seasonal medicine, e.g. in the WINTER have one steak per month? I would so much love an answer to this lingering doubt I have.
    2. Another nagging question I have is that some people (perhaps also type O's) are found to have SNPs that prevent them from being able to convert plant omegas to the needed EPA omega 3. Therefore they may have neurological issues (MS, depression, etc)

One of my uncles smoked UNFILTERED Lucky Strike cigarettes for his entire life. He died at age 93 and only about a year before I got to see him ballroom dancing. And he was not stationery. He was clearly "leading" and moving around the dance floor - negotiating the traffic. He died from smoke inhalation but not from cigarettes but in a electrical-short-started fire that he clearly tried to
put out (being an engineer). The key is that he was smoking UNFILTERED cigarettes. The way mankind had smoked tobacco for the milennia.
I am NOT encouraging anyone to smoke. I have never smoked. Filtered-vs-unfiltered- may help explain why some people have still lived long lives while smoking.
God Bless T Colin Campbell - still offering his wisdom so many years later. I read his "China Study" book LONG ago and boy did my eyes open wide.
For other viewers, it is important to note that what Campbell is saying is basically what Dr.Walter Kempner was saying back in the 1940's and afterward. He was curing just about everything from cancer to obesity to diabetes to hypertension - in Durham, NC. A book on his life, written by one of his MD associates (of many years) says that Kempner based his treatment on believing that the liver and kidneys were being taxed greatly by excess protein from all sources. And this lead to damage, inflammation and the onset of illness. He was curing people with what was called the "rice diet". He chose rice for starch - instead of potatoes because rice was more ubiquitous worldwidethan potatoes. People traveled from all over the world. Of note was that he always focused on the worst cases and let his associates handle the rest. He was focused on saving lives and learning more and more. Some of his HBP patients would have HBP measurements of 300+ over 200+.

Why isn’t a protein just a protein regardless of the source. In other words, why is animal versus plant protein unhealthy? I have read the China Study and don’t dispute the observations and conclusions. However, what causes the health differences? Is it the fat etc. in meat or the fiber or other good stuff in plants. Or is it the abundance of particular amino acids, e.g. leucine and its association with cancer growth? I wish Chuck had asked this question.
