Enjoyed the review. I bought these recently - Excellent speakers for the money. Decent clarity and soundstage better than most passive and active speakers that I have heard. I did add a B&W ASW 300 sub which I already had which transformed the listening experience. Highly recommend.
Been having trouble choosing between R1280DB & R1850DB but looks like the latter is the smarter choice over the long run so R1850DB it is. Just have some questions: 1. I heard the volume resets each time you turn off the speakers, is that true? 2. Will the remote still work if I cover the LED light? Planning on covering it with something like a electrical tape because I think a bright green light can ruin a beautiful desk setup. 3. Honestly prefer a plain non-glossy black but not like the black R1280DB's since it looks cheapish IMO kinda like some wood sticker. Does the glossy piano black scratch fast? How about resistance to dust? I'm assuming it's the same kind of material on top of a 1st gen black PS4?
Hi Sazzad I just got these 1850db's, and they sound more balanced than my passive 6.5" Polk s20 powered with a 60x2 channel amp. I am listening to it n nearfield set up on my desk. The bass on the 1850 was very quick and sharp and very satisfying vs my bigger speaker with a more powerful external amp.
Please, what is DAC? How would it improve the sound from speakers like these? How is a DAC connected to the speakers? Sorry for all the questions. I’m new to this.....
@@Driver2616 DAC is converting the signal from digital into analog it is separate piece as it must be of a quality. Look for a dac which has usb power.by this you can just plug it into usb slot. Good DAC has a volume knob. You want to be able to set volume, not to be forced to mixer volume. Look for DAC with the output jack or rca.
Shake your floor? Might want to build your house more sturdy next time then, because an ancient Logitech Z-560 set would bring the house down in that case (which used to be sold in the same price range back in the day). 🤣
Been looking high and low for active bookshelf speakers with a sub out -- need 'em for my new Ryzen Zen 3 5600x build coz I want a decent sound stage and bass that I can actually feel when gaming. Unfortunately I can't afford these... but luckily now there's the new R1280DB-S that also has a 3.5mm sub out at way under $100.
Finally a good review which plays techno and Bass music, all other reviews are full of lame songs which cannot even test the potential of the speakers, but the sound could be clearer though, something like third person view

No particular reason, just so it happened while taking it of the box. Thou, with edifier 1280, I did put the right-hand speaker on my left so I can easily see and adjust the knobs. However, input cables were flipped in the back so left/right audio play the right way ;)
these the 1850's are peaking my interest for TV speakers with a sub attached......OR.... should I go with the s3000Pro's with no sub as my TV speakers...your thoughts people ? thx...cheers from Canada

They are kind of in a standby mode when nothing is playing, draws very little power like 5-6watts, when u turn them off with remote then it's drawing like 0.5watts... safe to leave them on, but if u like to then turn them off with remote
You get more on the 1850db, better amp and various inputs, but the 1280t are quite good for it's price, I've been running mine for almost 5yrs now without issues... Warmer sounds, balanced, and I kinda like the wood finish ;)

No, you'll need an active sub... the speaker will only send audio signal to you sub but not power... you still need something to power up that passive sub
You could connect the cable from the sub out port to an external amp then to the passive sub or even active(sorta like a preamp if you will), which is what Im doing. Assuming the amps output matches or at least nears the RMS of the sub, you should be fine.
Hmmm 🤔 the S350db speaker frequency response starts at 160hz, and the sub will cover rest from 160hz and below... Could work out nicely but feels a bit odd, usually speakers will play a bit more of the mids... I still like the 1850bd, because I can pick and choose whatever subwoofer I want to go with it, like an elac sub 1010 ;)
You will be able to control volume if you use RCA cable, not if your are using optic. Most TVs will output fix volume when using digital... try Bluetooth instead.
So far the 1850s have been solid! I listen to music at high volume and have not experienced any distortion. Material wise, it's well built and high quality finish. My old edifer 1280s are still running strong for 4yrs now. I am impressed by edifiers reliability and quality of these speakers, no issues on my end 😁
Maybe, if you are practicing at home, you can use these for gatherings but not for large hall rooms... also, hookup a sub to it so you can push some deep bass during practice ;)
Definitely, I used both for a while, and kept the 1850 as my daily just because the difference is audio quality. The 1280 are great for budget, but I didnt want to go back after hearing the 1850 and quality it provides. Plus, more connectivity options.

Hey! I can't decide between these or the r1700bt. The r1700bt speakers have the bass and treble controls on the side and are a small bit cheaper but the r1850db speakers have the sub out port which is convenient. I really can't decide
I bought my 1850db for $150 during holiday sale on Amazon, keep a lookout... If you like sub-out feature then 1850db it is ;) plus it's optical in, better input

R1850DB are only in piano black, the wood finish u see are probably the R1700BT, they look the same but difference is 1850DB comes with optical and sub out ;)

Defiantly! I switched them to my TV recently and have it hooked up with optical cable, and if you have universal remote, that can also be used to adjust volume for these speakers
it has more volume than the R1280Db but the R1280DB has more thumping bass than this speaker, for a base head this speaker wouldn't cut it hence they put the Sub-Out Port, they knew it suffers when it comes to bass
I would disagree a bit on this, the 1850 has more kicks to it's bass, I actually have to lower bass decibels when watching movies at high volume, vs the 1280t needs additional bass decibels to give a close performance, the sub-out is a bonus so u can hit those sub frequencies with ur subwoofer, but even without it... 1850 will punch harder :)
@@sazzad_hossain.s Remember the R1280T and the R1280DB are different, the R1280DB packs a bass heavy sound over the R1280T, hence to your ears the R1850DB will sound better as compared to the R1280T but if you compare the R1280DB to the R1850DB then the bass on the R1280DB punches harder. Remember we talking bass frequency at the same volume level not he overall volume (Because the R1280DB peaks at 40 watts and the R1850 peaks at 70w). They had to sacrifice the bass in the R1850 in order to give you the better sound at the mids and the high-end. Hence they opted to give you a sub-out to even out the top heavy sound. Hope I make sense :-).
I kinda feel the same about them now. It’s too boomy in not a good way and it’s so bad cuz i love the higher frequencies coming out of them. The mid and lower frequencies MUST warmly hit the chest not boom in your ear.

@@vikplevnes736 The sound is okay but in overall meh... they have a bad controller, they dont remember the volume if you unplug the power of your pc,if the controller breaks you cannot change the input mode, aux mode on pc has some weird sounds, optical cable doesnt sound so loud as the aux
First thing: throw that junk pile of cables they give you in the garbage. I guarantee that any decent cables you spend $30 on will make your music sound noticeably better.

Can work with turntables. You should be able to connect any sub with RCA input, you will need to use a 3.5mm to RCA cable

I think I would, frequency response of these speakers are between 60hz-20khz, which is pretty great for all sorts of music

Sounds like the cheap speakers they look like. I reckon they go for 75-80 dollars? (edit: Just checked on Amazon... 225 dollars?! What a rip-off!) 😱
I kinda feel the same about them now. It’s too boomy in not a good way and it’s so bad cuz i love the higher frequencies coming out of them. The mid and lower frequencies MUST warmly hit the chest not boom in your ear.

The speakers are well balanced to meet wide range of frequency, vocal mixing playbacks wouldn't be an issue

@@vikplevnes736 The sound is okay but in overall meh... they have a bad controller, they dont remember the volume if you unplug the power of your pc,if the controller breaks you cannot change the input mode, aux mode on pc has some weird sounds, optical cable doesnt sound so loud as the aux

If you connect PC with Optical cable, be sure to set the soundcard to PCM and check different bit rates.
