Step right up. Step right up. Step up right. Up step right. Right step up. Come one, come all! Welcome to Josiah Trelawney’s Frontier Fotogram and processing! Your chance to have your photograph taken and immortalise how you currently look, over the gruelling waiting period of fifteen minutes!
This ASMR 19th Century Photographer roleplay sees you posing for a Southern Gentleman as he takes a daguerreotype picture of you (though it’s not entirely historically accurate, both for the purposes of ASMR and since I made the camera out of cardboard and an old egg boiler).
There’s a lot of up-close personal attention combined with a whole bunch of positive affirmations, including some measuring you, some follow the finger and pocketwatch, as well as some nice lens sounds to boot. So, get ready to stand still for a while and enjoy!
FAIR WARNING: My tummy and the local seagulls were out in noisy force, and I’ve tried my best to get rid of both of them, but they still manage to butt in every now and again. Sorry!

🎙 What is ASMR? 🎧
ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) is synaesthesia of the soul. It’s a relaxing feeling, it’s a tingling down the spine, or it’s simply a sleep aid. Whether it’s being ‘held’ by someone you have confidence in, or ‘looked after’ by someone with authority, or just feeling ‘safe’ with someone you trust, it uses audio-visual triggers to enable you to let go of your worries and stresses - even just for a bit.
📽 What is FPC? 🎞
FPC (first person cinema) takes all the relaxing elements of ASMR but has much more of a focus on immersion and the suspension of disbelief. It’s kinda like being the main character in your own short movie, with popular figures you know and love, or entirely created worlds - just for you. There won’t be any visible mics or traditional triggers in these videos, and they will seem more unintentional than the usual ASMR videos - but they are unique and relaxing experiences designed to transport you to different places, worlds, and times.

- Plot twist: the photographer is actually an immortal himself, who takes pictures of others, thereby granting them the 'immortality' of a frozen moment in time, so as to feel less alone while he watches the ages of the world go by.
Or maybe it’s something like in ‘Picture of Dorian Gray’… Our pictures age instead of us!
So he basically steals time from our lives
Plot twist two: he steals the lifespans of ppl counting from the moment the pic is taken, therefore having taken enough ppls pics/lifespans to be considered immortal

You are amazing at dialects and mannerisms. We should call you the Chameleon of ASMR.
I'm a big fan of Jay, but his Southern dialect is pretty poor, especially for the time period. His accent is rhotic, and at the time the only rhotic Southern dialect in the 19th century was the Appalachian dialect- but his accent definitely has a Lowland Old Southern tone. That combined with a few words sounding very much like General American English makes his accent sound extremely artificial

The effort he goes through for every video, set design, characteristic presenting, accents, costume, scripting etc, is just so underrated.

Yet another great job, Jim. One thing these more Southern-style Western characters make me think of is your old Phrenology ASMR video, which I still frequent. Going after that subject with a more 19th century atmosphere and theming might be a fun time! Hope you've been doing alright lately.

Thus character is so different and unique than your others its impressive that you were able to make so many and they feel real

This was fun! I always wondered why old time photos of folks looked so miserable! Duhhhh they couldn’t hold a smile for 15 minutes. I thought it was the dust, hard work, awfully hot clothes they wore and the lack of indoor plumbing that made them look so grumpy.
How do you not have a million subscribers? Nobody comes close to the content you are putting out there...Crazy good stuff, man! And as a lifelong Southerner, the accent is spot on! LOL
Not sure exactly why, but there is something that is almost hypnotic about the sequence where you move your finger around and ask us to follow it with our eyes.

I feel like this is of a piece with "You're a Tiger", where shit similarly takes forever but it's because the photographer is a picky, pretentious lout instead of the camera needing 15 minutes to take the picture.

Ironically, I have pictures somewhere of my ancestors from the 19th century. I cant help but think, how much things have changed. They'd have like a house, horses, and probably a kid by now, weird how times change.

I couldn't help but to think of the corny, 90s style pictures taken here in The States. A lot of times here in Arizona. At Old Tucson Studios. Where a woman, or girl gets props like a saloon girl feathered headband, string of fake pearls or a cowboy hat. And a guy gets a cowboy hat and fake 6 shooter... and they pose on a wanted poster. Or its a glamor shot; all blurry...
