    Thank you, it's nice to get back to the basics. Even if I am somewhat familiar with the Walls UI, I learned new things and will be able to improve the gaming experience. This is the case with etheral walls that can be used for curtains (never occured to me) and invisible walls for furniture

    I've written a macro to change walls to doors and walls to windows, so that I can just keep going when drawing my walls, then select my windows and push a button to convert them to windows (with all of my settings like attenuation and stufs). Gets me the best of both worlds.

      Nice. You can also use the Mass Edit paint brush to brush your favorite settings on any wall. I've been building with ME preset browser open, moving from light brushes to wall brushes. I even have a roof brush to automaticaly set tiles as roofs. It's quite nice.

    What is a good example where “reverse proximity” wall would make sense? What is the mental model for using such a wall?

    • @Baileywiki
      @Baileywiki  10 місяців тому +5

      I think the classic case is a retaining wall where players can hide behind it, but as they wak away from it, they become visible.

      It could be a great illusion trap. See the full area but as you get closer the room or area disappears and trap opens up below. A puzzle room. Once again move close but the room darkens. Need to find something else in the room to disable the light.

    I just got foundry a week ago maybe less. Your videos have been helpful.
    I'm running a fallout rpg . Any suggestions on creating zones for players?

    one more question for you, did the map teleporting change aswell?I reinstalled the nuts and bolts folder and can't find the "stair" control one, to make teleporting points between maps

    How do you make terrain with varying levels eg crates with smaller crates on top, or layered rock plateaus?

    • @Baileywiki
      @Baileywiki  5 місяців тому +1

      I recommend Terrain Mapper by Caewok. See my most recent tutorial on Regions and jump to the timestamp.

    Awesome content, didn't knew about the ctrl + click feature when building a wall, also i want to make a spanish channel of FVTT with this kind of content, do you mind if use some ideas from your videos? (Obviously i'll credit you)

    I am using The Galleon from the Baileywiki Content but I cant edit any walls on the scene. There is a pesky wall on the -20 level in the crew quarters that effectively separates the corridor in two and I cant delete it without deleting all the walls. Any tips?

    • @BeastlyTiger
      @BeastlyTiger 9 місяців тому

      Nevermind, found the solution: You need to toggle QuickEdit mode before

    Thank you for the video. As a newer user, I thought I had the basics down, but this gave some nice tips I did not know.
    For future videos, it would be helpful to have some examples of how one might use reverse proximity, proximity threshold attenuation, and reverse proximity threshold attenuation. I would also suggest a mention of Monk's Wall Enhancement since it brings some additonal features that are great time savers (and really should be Foundry standard). Advanced videos could also include fancy examples with Wall Height and Levels by theripper93.
    Another video subject that is sometimes a struggle are light and vision. There are a lot of settings in the scene, light objects, and character vision and it can be a chore to figure out how to utilize them. For a long time, I did not even realize there were 'Transition to Day/Night' buttons.

    How do you add a point to an exiting wall?

    • @Baileywiki
      @Baileywiki  4 місяці тому

      There used to be a module that would do this but I'm not aware of a function in core foundry that can add a point. You just need to grab one side of the wall shorten it and add another segment

    • @kaitlynnc15
      @kaitlynnc15 Місяць тому

      I'm not sure if it's a mod or core feature, probably the first, but I've found that double clicking on the wall line splits it.
      Edit: It's a mod.

    I have a question, I've been trying to use reverse proximity with the threshold attenuation to create a balcony (so that the further you are from it, the more you can see the people on it and the closer you get, the less you can see... logical so far) but there isn't any difference between "Proximity Threshold Attenuation" On or Off. I ensured I did have a threshold set (10ft) I ensure I had everything correctly... But the effect is always just as if "PTA" was off anyways so it just goes dark or light in a second.
    Edit : it also doesn't work on windows for some reason, I really prefer to use the Threshold because it's more natural and I want to force them to get close to the windows if they want to see more! So they can get caught hehe
    Does anyone have any advice? It's not that important but there's certainly something I'm missing
    And of course thank you very much for all the informative videos, they've been very hepful to start my journey through Foundry !

    • @Baileywiki
      @Baileywiki  9 місяців тому

      It should just work. Are you sure you're selecting Proximity mode, applying a distance AND clicking the box further down?

    • @ThePurpleStar
      @ThePurpleStar 9 місяців тому

      @@Baileywiki Absolutely, that's why I'm so confused. I guess there's a possibility it could be a visual glitch on my computer's side. Well it's alright it still is a lot of fun even without it !

    • @Baileywiki
      @Baileywiki  9 місяців тому

      You might have a module conflict. Try Find the Culprit module to isolate it.

    • @ThePurpleStar
      @ThePurpleStar 9 місяців тому

      @@Baileywiki No modules were installed, RIP. My guess is that there must be a mechanic I don't quite understand due to being new to Foundry. I'll start learning and playing with the software and see how it ends up going anyways. Thank you lot sfo rall your help!

    I've been trying to use walls as fences. As in I just make a straight line set the height and then set the character line of sight height so they can see over it but the characters can just move through it. I don't know why. but if they can see over it they can step over it. It seems alittle stupid. a 7 foot tall charcater is not going to just step over a 7 foot tall wall xD any ideas?

    • @Baileywiki
      @Baileywiki  7 місяців тому +1

      You could just place two walls on top of each other. One for vision and one for blocking movement.

  • @SpiderboyN2Jesus
    @SpiderboyN2Jesus 10 місяців тому

    I'm not sure I get the thinking behind limiting the light and sight proximity for windows 🤔... The sounds proximity makes sense, but the vision and light 🤨. I suppose if you're indoors at night with the lights on inside, you wouldn't be able to see outside unless you're right up against the window, but normally you'd be able to see through it just fine. Maybe it's meant to simulate curtains over the windows, I guess 🤔...?

    • @Baileywiki
      @Baileywiki  10 місяців тому

      I really like the proximity for windows. In a battle, it forces players to expose themselves by getting right up to the window in order to see out.

    • @SpiderboyN2Jesus
      @SpiderboyN2Jesus 10 місяців тому

      @@Baileywiki I think it still has pretty limited viewing angles, already. In fact you have a bigger viewing angle the closer you are to it, actually 😅🤷🏻‍♂️... Well, maybe not exactly 🤷🏻‍♂️😅... To each his own, I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️😉.
