  • Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849)
    Nocturne Op. 27, No. 2 in D-flat major (1835-1836)
    Lento sostenuto
Nikolai Lugansky, 2014, Festival de la Grange de Meslay
"... The D flat major…is through-composed and goal-directed, and its construction is immensely subtle. There are two alternating melodies, of which the first is non-repetitive and aria-like, elaborated with an ever more expressive ornamentation, but remaining essentially static, if music can ever be static. The energy and momentum is provided by the second, stanzaic melody, which is developmental in character. Here the ornamentation has a rather different function. It is not so much an expressive enhancement of the melody as a means of driving the music in a dynamic and evolutionary way towards its major tension points; in other words it plays a key structural role in the music. Taken together, the two themes represent Chopin’s ornamental melody at its finest. The opera house was one obvious influence; Mozart another."

Lugansky proves that he is not only an accomplished Rachmaninov interpreter but also a fantastic Chopin interpreter. One of the best versions I've heard of this work of art

Oui, vraiment remarquable. Son jeu me rappelle beaucoup celui d'Arrau, qui jouait dans ce même tempo

I love his interpretation. So full of serenity and angst at the same time. Bravo!

Every day I come here to listen this astonishing piece, thanks Chopin and Lugansky. It is like a drug, I feel addicted, can't stop to listen

If one wrote music with his own blood, it would perhaps sound as Chopin...The most delicate and exquisite expression, and at the same time, the most heartbreaking, even in its lightness...

This is probably my favourite Chopin nocturne and it's quite likely due to this performance.

Очень атмосферно, изящно, тонко, как будто плетёт кружева из звуков. Не могу наслушаться...

Probably there'll never be another pianist with such a unique gift as Lugansky.

Una de las más logradas obras de Chopin por Lugansky
Plena de imaginación, sutileza, poesía y un toucher que no se deja avasallar por el virtuosismo ni la pasión excesiva
