On climb, set power slowly. I own and fly 1980 C414A and climb is 35 inches and 2500 RPM with RAM engines (2450 otherwise). Cruise RPM set is 2200-2400. Descenets 2200-2300 RPM and can be left untouched as you gradually reduce power (about 1 inch MP per minute to avoid shock cooling. Final should be at 110 kts, then landing assured 95 kts and in flair while with power on. Taking power off will help you settle. I have thousands of hours in these lovely planes (C310. 340. 414, and 414As). Love the plane. No idea how I came across this, but was surprised to see my plane in a flight sim. Have fun!
@@jonbeckett Approach mode in IFR and sinking through the soup to find the runway right ahead are among the most thrilling experiences in Flight-simming! Real life too😄
Excellent video thanks 👍 I bought this plane (over the Milviz 310R) to fly missions in Neofly and even though I can fly a plane, needed a bit more input on the avionics, and this really helped. Just need to brush up on the ILS and flight computer processes for this plane. The Developer has done an awesome job.
This is my favorite GA plane in the game, thus far. FlySimWare has been updating this badboy almost weekly. The sounds are excellent and so are the textures.
Excellent video! I was trying to figure out how to descend, and you answered my question, as well as explained other things I hadn't gotten around to yet. Thanks!
Thanks for this video on the autopilot. It's unique. I have the premium version of GTN 750 and it now has an autopilot feature. I find using that, especially for the pitch control, to be easier to use. Its compatible with all autopilots and will not give you any features the plane's autopilot doesn't have. I've got to get this plane soon.
I just purchased this plane as it's in it's final release. Very interesting autopilot. Quite the challenge. I flew with the dual GTN750 and still had problems with the autopilot but managed an ILS approach successfully. It sometimes doesn't follow the flight plan and once it didn't recognize the plan at all and I had to restart the flight. When using the GTN750s, the altitude alert is digital and I don't understand how to use it. The manual doesn't talk about it. It will show 35,000 feet and then finally show the correct altitude when I level off. Then when coming down, it will show -1,500 feet. Maybe you could do another video showing the autopilot again but this time with the GTN 750s. Love this plane though. Lots of work done in producing it.
A great video as usual 👍🏻I particularly love your comment on landing, "I got away with it, thankfully." You use thankfully quite a lot ... Thankfully its a simulation! If you crash its time to go and put the kettle on 😄👍🏻
You did! I manage to get away with it about 3 out of 5 times thankfully 😄👍🏻 Thanks for the videos, as a newbie to flight sims they are a great source of information.
I've rewatched literally a hundred times now but can't find the 'button' you say you have to click at 6:02 to turn the autopilot on. Your mouse looks to be just under the GPS unit but nothing around there seems to work. Where's the button!? Thanks
I had a similar issue... using a VKB Gladiator Premium stick, and WinWing Orion Throttle - Could NOT for the life of me get the switch mapping to work. No matter what button/toggle I assigned in MSFS Controls Options - the Autopilot Master refuses to turn on! So, not even the old Z keyboard mapping works! Any ideas?
Thanks for that Jonathan, the 414 is a great aircraft and it’s version with the older avionics that you have to nurse a little is a unique challenge. I suspect you will but in future vides would you consider a delve into the secondary VOR and pressurisation systems for example? Keep up the good work!
So when you engage the autopilot and it enters pitch and roll hold, what it holds is the pitch and roll it would be doing if you weren't touching the controls not what it's actually currently doing ? Just knowing that answers so many questions , thank you !
How to bind autopilot master switch? That one on the yoke? I cn't find any setting for that. Tried all autopilot disengage- related on controls, but no use... :(
I think I have the toggle autopilot mapped. It doesn't work for all aircraft - you need to be careful - some of the big Airbus aircraft have three state autopilots :)
I have tried to follow your video with regard to moving the heading bug on the CDI screen, but I can’t seem to move it properly with the dial using my mouse. Also on the CDI screen what is the green line with an arrow on one end of it? I have a feeling that I may need an even more basic video! My plane seemed to be going in circles at one stage when I engaged AP.
When I use the TDS GTN 750xi I always use the Working Title Autopilot, it seems to work much more effectively than the default one especially during approaches. Flysimware made a different livery for each cockpit variation so you have to look for PMS GTN+WT or TDS GTN+WT to use the working title autopilot version for which ever GTN 750 you're using. This, IMHO, is the best GA aircraft on the market right now for FS 2020, however, there's one thing I wish they would have coded properly and that's the Cessna RN-1079A RNAV system similar to the KNS-80 RNAV system Black Square coded for their awesome new Analog Caravan Cessna 208 cockpit. Great video!
@@jonbeckett Actually what I meant to say that the PMS GTN 750 is the one that works with the Working Title Autopilot, not the TDS version. Also, with the TDS version you *MUST* capture the glide slope from below the beam.
Thanks you for this; great to have your explanantion of the arcane autopilot! I still have one mystery to solve - maybe it's an xbox thing but although NAV works fine for ILS, follows the locater and glide slope, if I tune to a VOR the NAV won't engage at all. It shows correctly on the HSI but even if I'm heading directly to the VOR and in close proximity I cannot click the NAV button. I notice on your video as soon as you tune to Bovingdon VOR and click NAV vor shows up on the display and it behaves fine. Any ideas? Anyone else had this problem? Could it be something to do with the Working Title Garmin 530? Anyway Thanks very much for this very clear explanation.
Just to answer my own question, if I delete the WT 530 and use the default one it all works fine so there is a conflict. Let's hope Working Title fix it soon as it's great other than this glitch.
If this is an autopilot tutorial... We don't need to see you do a cold start. You can cut right to the chase on the runway and save yourself the shenanigans.
I guess you're entitled to your opinion, but from my POV, I found the whole video very intuitive and helpful. It's always good to lead into a instruction video, rather than "cold turkey". A lot of flight simmers want to see that so they know they haven't missed anything.

I'm sure over time I'll start looking at some of the more detailed functionality - it's nice to have an aircraft that simulates the further systems.
What is the button or switch in the cockpit for the different AP settings? (e.g HDG, ALT etc…)
