That looks super fun, those shells are giant. The clam burger looked so tasty, a nice cold brew to enjoy it with and celebrate the moment is a must.😆👍🍻
Just love your adventures & the things you teach us. I'm 70 & I'm looking into getting a crabbing license. Happy Ocean Exploring to you & your buddies. Bonnie from Maine
I got sick from clams 50 years ago Haven't eaten them since not even clam soup. Loved the taste of them, but got sick. Looking back, it might have been demonic acid and from this video, I think I try them again. That clam burger looked very nice. Thanks great video. PS I might try clam soup first though.
Another great video PK! Interesting way to cook the gapers. We quit catching them because they were always too chewy. Also and easy way to catch cockles if u want to try something different is walking around in eel grass and feeling for them under your feet. I made a video of that a few months back. Thanks for sharing!
Great video PK. You might want to try using a tight mesh nylon clam net strapped on your waist so you can stay out in the water between catches. Like we do when surf digging for razor clams.
PK, this video was so informative as well as entertaining to watch. You have made me want to give up Alabama for a few weeks, go to Oregon and go clamming everyday! I completely enjoy your videos. What did you do with those cockles? Great recipe, looked yummy! Thank you for sharing, tight lines my friend!!
Hey PK, it would be coo if you could make a video how your friend cleaned the clams at the end and what parts specifically he cut away and what part he kept.
I wish you would discuss the flavor and texture to those to those of use due to heath or other reasons may never be able to catch and cook then nice work and may be describe you co host and how you got yo know them and have formal induction on there be half thanks
I used to use one of the wide rakes like you are using. Try one of the narrower four tine rakes. It is easier to pull through the sand and you can find clams a bit deeper since the tines are longer.
I prefer the butter/steamers/Manila. Cockles are more of a meaty clam for a chowder in my opinion. But hey, different strokes for different folks. What are your preferred?
HI PK LOVE YOUR CHANNEL YOU INSPIRE US ALL . I AM HEADING OVER TO TRY AND DO SOME FISHING CRABBING AND CLAMMING THIS FIRST WEEK OF NOVEMBER,FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER. THRU ONE OF YOUR VIDEOS I THINK I MAY FIRST STOP IN NETARTS TO DO CRABBING WITH BIG SPRUCE RV PARK AS YOU RECOMMENDED. BUT SOME IMPORTANT QUESTIONS PLEASE, WOULD BE OF GREAT HELP FOR ME TO HAVE WHAT I NEED ON THIS TRIP. #1 WHAT FISHING ROD OR REAL DO YOU RECOMMEND, I CAN BUY TO CATCH ANY KIND OF FISH FROM THE PIER,THE BEACH ??????(I CAN ONLY BUY ONE). CAN I ALSO USE IT TO CATCH CRAB OFF A PIER WITH IT TOO? #2WHERE DO YOU RECOMMEND I CAN GO FISHING OFF A PIER AND A BEACH THAT HAS EASY ACCESS TO FISHING? AS I CANT WALK TOO MUCH.AND WHAT KIND OF BAIT TO FISH. #3ALSO WHAT GOOD TASTING RESTAURANT DO YOU RECOMMEND FOR GOOD LOCAL FISH,CLAMS AND CRAB? #4LAST QUESTION . WHAT CENTRALLY LOCATED CITY CAN YOU RECOMMEND I CAN STAY IN TO BE CLOSE TO ALL THE FISHING,CLAMMING AND CRABBING?(MY FIRST TIME GOING TO OREGON) PK I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR TIME. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE ANSWERS TO THESE QUESTIONS. HOPE I CAN MEET YOU ONE DAY . GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
1) The Okuma Celilo salmon rod, 9'6" light action would be good for surf fishing. This rod is too light for crabbing. Surf perch might be hard to catch from a pier though... 2) Winchester Bay is a good pier for crabbing and fishing. You can also try siletz bay for crabbing from shore - with a crab hawk (but you need a heavy rod for it) 3) Chowder Bowl - my favorite seafood restaurant on the Oregon coast by a long shot 4) Newport. It has a crab dock (now is a good time to crab!), and you can easily catch rockfish off the south jetty at night. Good luck and be safe.
I tend to think of fried clams as individual little fritters, rather than as a big burger patty. But fresh and hot like that, it must have been pretty darned good.
Thank you so much. got the shells today. I am so happy to have them. my mind is racing with ideas. Can I pay you at least for the shipping? god bless and thank you again.
Mate, we get gaper clams and cockles here in the UK but NOT that big, a big cockle here is about the size of a 50c coin and gapers weigh about a half pound
Hey pk.... you ever have any luck in Florence? I am wanting to plan a clam and surf perch trip and was wanting to try in Florence. I've never ocean fished or clammed before. Any tips or tricks?
Florence is not bad for surf fishing. You can try Driftwood shores, I've done OK there. For clamming, never tried it there. But I've seen people dig for clams on the HWY 126 bridge by the casino. good luck.
At 13:10 minutes of your video, you identified the three large Gaper clams as butter clams. Those are not Butter clams. Those are called Gaper Clams, Horseneck clams, Empire Clams or Blue clams. Butter clams and also called Martha Washington clams are a total different species. You made some really good videos. I would be nice if you could give the location of where you are digging clams.

if its too chewy that means you overcooked them, they cook really quickly and when cooked right they are not chewy.
Outstanding! Great work and great video. Thanks for sharing.
a great video...loved the clam sandwich idea!

That's a really great idea... thanks.
My new favorite channel...
Man I wish I lived off the coast! That looks like so much fun.
U can drive there?
Your going to miss Oregon . lol. great video.............
Clam burger? Yummy! That looks delicious!
Roger Desparois clam fritter
Man, that is just awesome! I have NEVER done that and probably never will. I wish I could do that here in the Texas coast. Just jealous! 😉👍
Apparently, you can go clamming in. Texas. dshs.texas.gov/seafood/shellfish-harvest-maps.aspx
I can’t stop drooling. Hope you enjoyed your clamburger as much as I did watching. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Colin.
Now I'm hungry
thank you so much for cooking the food you catch
You have an oyster farm there also. Love them steamed, bar b qued. Love them deep fried on a bun with tartar sauce. Enjoy the coast.
I think catching oysters are prohibited in oregon. Might need to check in with good ol odfw.
Those are parasitic pea crabs!!!
Cool find
grate video and the clam burger looked so good

The fried clam looked like fried chicken. It looked delicious. 😋

Nice clams!

If I get a hold of one of those 4 tines rake, I'll have to try it out next time.
Love your channel! Which beach were you guys at? I live in Oregon but it'll be my first time clamming next week!
Netarts. Here is a map put out by ODFW on where to go clamming and crabbing: myodfw.com/articles/where-bay-clam-oregon
just a note i dont think your suppose to clean at the water source but at your table with your own bowls . love your video awsome

PK is great. Does anyone else wonder who in the love of all that is Holy, could give a thumbs down on this??? Haters gonna hate.
Looks so good!

I usually eat them sashimi style with the gapers/horseneck clams
I made soft tacos out of them one time and YUMMO DELUXE..
you can say goodbye to those cockles when you move to CA. they are very small down here and few.
PK I,m planning trip to Oregon , were in Oregon did you get this clams …. great video
Sea Side
yay clamming i love it great video
Thank you so much. got the shells today. I am so happy to have them. my mind is racing with ideas. Can I pay you at least for the shipping?
god bless and thank you again.
Don't worry about it. Have fun.
PK Yi Thank you and God bless.
You don't have to be in water to rake out cockles, I have raked up many in sand, wet sand, of course.
Ok, so the foot/neck makes for a great clam sammich, how is the rest of the Gaper clam used? In a chowder? Good stuff there.
I've tried several different ways to cook them, but chowder is definitely the best way.
DAng it now I want some good Clam Chowder from the Coast.
THANK YOU PK FOR YOUR REPLY . CAN YOU RECOMMEND A STORE WHERE I CAN BUY THE FISHING RODS, THERE IN NEWPORT OR AROUND THE COAST THERE? THANK YOU
Nice job on the clams! Are your waders waterproof and do they have boots attached?
Mate, we get gaper clams and cockles here in the UK but NOT that big, a big cockle here is about the size of a 50c coin and gapers weigh about a half pound
Nice!! Thanks for all ur vid
Nice...can't wait...here I come clams lol
There is a razor clam did this weekend... I can't wait!
Dumb question but are those clams stuck? How do they get around when they are stuck under the sand like that?

PK, in California will you be coastal?
How do you know they are in the sand that deep?
Goreg Washington favorited the crabs inside clam true fact.
Was that flour in the bowl before you added the Cajun seasoning?
