Don't forget to fill in your holes! Good land stewardship is part of the forager's responsibility ☺ Love your clamming videos. Just visited the Oregon coast for the first time. How beautiful! Had a hard time tearing myself away from the clamming, crabbing, and rockhounding. Thanks for posting!
Hey PK thank you for making these videos. I’m Khmer too and my parents used to take me to the coast to fish, clam, and forage for mushrooms. I had forgotten how to do all that until I found your videos. It really brings me back to the good old days! I love the hilarious commentary too! Ah-kun jrouen!
He's doing very well! I grew up fishing on the Oregon coast. Clams, Oysters, Dungeness Crab, Perch, Sea Bass... It's all good. Dad used to make the best Chowder and pan fried fish. Making me hungry! AND when you limit in less than an hour, you don't need to change equipment... Some people prefer shovels over pitch forks.
No video on UA-cam is going to make everyone happy. We all have different tastes and preferences. The amount of time, effort, energy, money, etc put into my videos doesn't seem to satisfy some people, and that's ok, and is expected. I did intentionally wanted those clam bits to "nibble" on, I didn't do it just for kicks. If the cleaning isn't up to your high standards, perhaps you can make a video to "demonstrate" on how to properly clean a "whole, fat" clam? From the sound of your remarks, you seem like a very knowledgeable individual who's just itchin' to show us common folks how it's done.
Hello PK I really enjoy watching your videos . Just wanted to share the way I prepare "Butter clams". Using the knife split open the clam just like you did. Then actually split the meat , leaving half in each shell. Rinse clean & separate the shells at the hinge point. Mix up some flour & seasoning of your choice & sprinkle over the clam meat still in the shells you have prepared . Heat oil or butter in a skillet & cook the clams in the shell cup side down in the pan. It'll both quick fry/ cook & steam the meat. When finished, simply pluck the meat from the shell & enjoy. It's a fun yummy way to enjoy your harvest . Thank you again for sharing your videos. BobO413
I got your trail tourney rod the newer edition and on sale it has been as low as 29.00 it's my favorite too. I like the longer handle I can put it under my arm momentarily to assist my other hand and it's comfortable.
Nice. That's a good rod for that price. I wanted to pick up the new TT model they got out, but I still got 3 of the old one so I passed on it. I did get a new 6'6" of the new TT for bass fishing since I lost my old one.
I use your same Technic with the knot and it works except I use four turns it's very strong and small and tugged nuts hard on it, it works in So-cal we always catch smaller fish . What I love about you is in avid fishing guys with money sometimes over buy ridiculous hard to tell who the fish is? LOL! watched you on the TTmade a discount account with Cabelas and Spinfisher reels on ebay are way cheaper a 5500 only 88.00 but I know why it is sealed but inside the gears are cheap alloy no problem good rebuild kits and gaskets are cheap from Penn! I love maintenance and you can improve easily! I watch you and you have more fun than people who spend tons of money i know and admit i did! I had a beautiful sport fisher what did i catch? the same thing except I looked so good! But $900 to filler her up. had it too 24 years and just recently let it go. I am retired good thing! it does not take big 444 to enjoy fishing.
Wow...That was challenging. In Maine, we dig surf clams, they are only about 2" under the sand. They are not terribly good eating, however, excellent bait. They are pretty good in a chowder, but not much else. Do you ever use what you catch for bait?
I aerated them to keep them alive, and they will also purge sitting in the water. An oyster knife will work great. Gloves are a smart thing to wear, I was just in a hurry to make the video
Are you posting clam videos, because the perch is slow? I hit fogarty and Lincoln City, end to end, over three days, and got 3 bites and one red tail. Because of your vids, you got my cousin and I are now surf fishing. I always wanted to try it and had success based on your teaching. Great success my man!
Hi John. Glad to see you are getting into surf fishing and enjoying it. Yes, surf fishing was a little slow for me. Not to mention the swells are high when it's my day off. Tight lines
Florence Oregon or coosbay ? Where in Oregon was this? I live in eugene so we always go to the Florence coast wish the coast was as warm and blue like in Mexico our coast is ugly and cold but the kids love it
PK I’ve seen vids where boiled water is poured on razor clams which literally makes them jump out of their shells. Can you do the same thing to those butter clams?
Yes, that will work too. These big ones require more hot water, so I just boil the water first and dump them into the boiling pot, they usually pop open about 10 seconds.
See this clamming map: myodfw.com/articles/where-bay-clam-oregon Best to go during a MINUS tide. Any time of year is good, just gotta be a minus tide because more clam beds will be exposed. Just look at the maps above, and pick a spot. (just follow where there are a crowd of people digging).
How you doing pk me and my dad were planing on going claming soonwere do you usually go we only go for gapers so don't know if you do or not cant wate till the next video
I don't clam very often. I usually go on a very low negative tide. I just go for butter clams, or cockles. The gapers are too deep for me to mess with.
Long video but had to keep watching...entertaining haha. Good work PK...question; i thought shellfish were good to get only between sept-april? i'm basing this on the "R" rule only...
Hey pk have you fished Pacific city at all, I live here and haven't been able to catch anything surf fishing, could sure use some tips for this area, thanks love your videos bro
Yes, like Sshooter444 said, it's open year round, unless there's a health warning for domoic acid. But usually, I go during a very low negative tide; which is kinda rare.

Why would anyone give this a thumbs down. Always enjoyable to watch your channel Jimmy from Massachusetts

Ah, Clams, and Clam Chowder. I miss Mo's Annex, good clam chowder. Good video as always.
I took my wife to Oregon just about a month ago. It's the most beautiful coast I've ever seen.

That sounds nice. I might do that technique in a future catch and cook clams.
Linguini with clam sauce....1/2 stick butter, 1/2 cup olive oil, some basil leaves. Heat and stir in minced clams. Pour over boiled linguini. :)
Garlic too!
Wow that’s a great video stayed all the way until the end 😁👍🏽
Wow nice spot! Those are some thick clams.
I miss clamming with my dad in the great South Bay Long Island NY
i have always wanted to get out there and shoot a video of calming and crabbing. hope you enjoyed them and good work
Fabulous video! Thank you for your great instruction!
Your videos make me feel as good as a clam at high tide!
I am a Maori from New Zealand. We'd eat the whole lot. No waste my friend. They work as good bait too.
Thanks for uploading, Its a great way to cap off a great day of fishing. Tight lines brotha!!
Hey brother, thank you for sharing the awesome video. Very informative.
I watch every adventure. You learn a lot! thanks .
Thank you, tight lines.

I love watching this video. Great day and so much fun...
i love clamming videos.

Love you videos PK! Keep up the good work!
thanks for your sharing your fishing talents with us
Nice vid. I save the clam guts and put them in a bait bag when crabbing. Its like crab crack, they really seem to like it.
You are one dedicated clammer!
Never even seen a saltwater clam. Illegal to eat them here. Interesting video. Thanks for posting it.
Really enjoyed this. I miss steamed clams.
Need to get out of Medford and go clamming! That looks so fun!
I like the "Clam Cam" at the end!
Wow...That was challenging. In Maine, we dig surf clams, they are only about 2" under the sand. They are not terribly good eating, however, excellent bait. They are pretty good in a chowder, but not much else. Do you ever use what you catch for bait?
Wow those are huge clams!
Clamming is hard work!
Why the airrator ? Thanks for the video
Nice of you to give the clams a fresh water aerated bath. Did you do this to purge them? Would an oyster knife be safer to use? Did you need gloves?
I aerated them to keep them alive, and they will also purge sitting in the water. An oyster knife will work great. Gloves are a smart thing to wear, I was just in a hurry to make the video

Dude you have very cool weekend im so jealous
love these videos -you have too much fun !! thom ..
Florence Oregon or coosbay ? Where in Oregon was this? I live in eugene so we always go to the Florence coast wish the coast was as warm and blue like in Mexico our coast is ugly and cold but the kids love it
Netarts Bay
Do you ever "purge" the clams by keeping them in a clean salt water bath to get rid of the poop and sand?
I did when I got home, yes
PK I’ve seen vids where boiled water is poured on razor clams which literally makes them jump out of their shells. Can you do the same thing to those butter clams?
Yes, that will work too. These big ones require more hot water, so I just boil the water first and dump them into the boiling pot, they usually pop open about 10 seconds.
If I want to visit oregan to dig these butter clams and cockles, when is the best time,of the year and what area should I stay?
See this clamming map: myodfw.com/articles/where-bay-clam-oregon

PK Yi k thanks for your reply it means alot and when is the next fishing tournament
Not sure at the moment. Got a lot of things to sort out first.
Are you putting the clams in salt water or fresh? Great vids...
That was freshwater in my cooler.
__________ VERY NICE ______________ LOVE THOSE CLAMS
Cool and nice clams. Which area of the beach PK?
walked about 1/4 mile from the parking lot in the middel of the bay
Which beach ?
6:25 trying to get the last chip out of the bag
On the East Coast we use long handle pitch forks. breaks the suction easier and doesn't break your back or clams.
MegaBait56 ha yea everyone brings their own huge forks while im kayaking.
Should make a video how you cook them 😊
A great video, thank you!
Where is In Oregon ? We have a house in new Port beach
I just wonder if i can find the clam like you
Netarts Bay
Kool video amigo....😉👍
what area did you go to on the coast? I'm in Monmouth, OR
Netarts north of pacific city
April Young netarts
Long video but had to keep watching...entertaining haha.
Good work PK...question; i thought shellfish were good to get only between sept-april? i'm basing this on the "R" rule only...
You can get clams year round, but crabs are good in months that end in "R"s. (Actually, I find crabbing picks up in August). Tight lines
Beautiful black sand! Where were you atm PK?
they look like a Steamer Clams we find back were IU used to live in the seacoast of NH
Dang I wish I had more time to get to the beach! What is the limit on those clams?
Matt Salinas 20 butter clams
Where do you go clam digging? I’m from Oregon too but never tried to go clam digging.
Netarts Bay
michael Nguyen Thank you 😊
Are there other ways to store the clams so they dont spoil on the long drive?
Mel Katsu cooler with ice
A 2 hour drive for 20 clams, that’s commitment! Could you have used one of those clan guns instead?
Very nice vid. What is the bag limit for the clams you're digging up?
20 butter clams
Is there a season for butterclams?
You might consider getting an oyster knife. They're not sharp and are made for severing the base of adductor muscles.
Yup, on order and on its way.
Just wondering. Why not use you clam "gun" that you used for razor clams? They don't look very deep.
I probably could have used the gun too and it will work. I might bring both next time and see which one works better.
How do you decide where you will find them for sure
Look for the "show" (holes) in the mud. they also sometime shoot water up
do a catch n cook PK..!! 👍🏻 great video btw..!!
Hope to soon. Stay tuned.
How do you hold a crab? Don’t they bite?
No, they are filter feeders, no teeth or anything close to it. :)
Where do you fish in the valley? E E Wilson?
are those purple varnish clams?
How many are you allowed to get? They are huge!
20 butter clams here in Oregon
how do u know if clams underneath so u can start digging?
look for their air hole on top of the sand, about pencil eraser size
I see him I feel him 😂😂
Hey Pk do u come fishing in the Portland area ps love your video
I do go to Swan Island sometime for sturgeon.
You should do an episode on how you cook these
Hope to do that soon if time/tide allows.
May 22? Was it cold that day? It looked cold.
Yes :) and it's a good 10 degrees colder on the coast.
Will be in Oregon in August. Where did you film this?
I'll be at Beverly beach state park in September. Curious also where u clammed
I clam in Netarts, but most bays in Oregon have clams. Negative tide is usually best. Just go to myodfw.com for more info.
Are you ever in Salem?
I don't go there much, no
where is the actual location?
Can you eat these raw like cherrystone clams and little neck clams?
I haven't eaten them raw - I prefer them cooked.
Conclusion: clams are more plentiful than air or water. Most nutritious and sustainable animal protein on earth.
Hey pk have you fished Pacific city at all, I live here and haven't been able to catch anything surf fishing, could sure use some tips for this area, thanks love your videos bro
I have to little success. I would go a little north of it, and find it's better up just north of PC.
can i ask where you are in oregon? i usually go garabaldi
Kaun Troap neatarts
salut l'ami très belle vidéo bonne soirée à bientôt
Do you need a permit for clamming in Oregon?
Yes, a shellfish license is needed
Thats a good 2 and a half- 3 inches. Thats what we call fishermen's meter
Why did you put them in the cooler with water and air ?
Aerated water keeps them alive and the water lets them clean themselves of internal sand prior to cleaning and cooking.
may i ask which beach? Thank you!
Olivia N netarts
What bay are you in?
What are the rules and do you have to pay for a license
Amy Van Hoy 20 butter clams. You need a shellfish license in Oregon ($10 annual)
Went to the beach today and got lucky 🍀 I found about 100 clams
20 each day? How many days is the season?
froggleggers it's open year round as long as the health department says their OK to eat
Yes, like Sshooter444 said, it's open year round, unless there's a health warning for domoic acid. But usually, I go during a very low negative tide; which is kinda rare.
Thanks!
If this was at Netart's Bay i think i was there on the same day lol
Yup, Netarts it was.
PK Yi i must have just missed you i got there around 730am got my limit and left at 9am
Are you near seaside?
No. this was netarts
Sorry PK, why would I think you didn't know.?
lived in oregon my whole life and never knew clams were most common around here
but i do know why i have thalassophobia now
Where did you buy that digging tool?
At my local Bi-Mart, also on Amazon: amzn.to/2KVOkdE
How long does it take for the clams to get that big?
Just a couple years.
Lars Sveen. Thanks for responding back. ☺
At 8:20 Cartman from South Park takes over!
Cool!
Make a nice pasta vongole with those clams
Hey man ✌️✌️
