Been on that road so many times but always in the summer when the trees are in full leaf and its warm. A very different story than your winter ride. It is such a beautiful part of the world and no 20 zones, what a difference.
Absolutely agree Ian, beautiful. As for the speed limits, just the 20 limit going through Beddgelert, but in the summer, with all the jay walking tourists, you would be daft doing anymore than that anyway 😳😂 Cheers
Thanks again for helping me keep my sanity during these winter months! You were right, a lot of stone walls again. Merry Christmas to you and your followers Ian!
Never done that route before Ian, perfect on the Guerilla, that's another Spring day ride sorted. Great video, up to your usual standard, look forward to the next part.🙂👍
Thanks Jonathan, these roads are great at this time of year, when there are hardly anyone about…..but can be frustrating when they are chock-a-block with slow going tourists 😂. The next episode, out tomorrow, is another fairly short one, but is my favourite of the lot. Many thanks for your support, and all the best 🎄🎅
More memories, off to Porthmadog from Brownhills, just to get fish and chips for tea, eaten by the water in various locations, shared with the gulls! Cheers, DINO, and PANDA. Ps, ALWAYS on the BIKE.
Yep, been on those roads, too; that's a good few years ago now, mind! And in a car, rather than on a bike, so whilst it was fun (ok, I was going a bit quick...), it'd be nicer on a bike! Cheers Ian and have a safe and enjoyable Christmas 👍🎅
Just started watching this one Ian and the camera angle looks fine. I parked in that Tesco with my lads a few years back and we even went into that cafe you pointed out. Bringing back memories..! Right, I’ll watch the rest of it now.👍
Morning Ian. Cant get out on the bike at present heavy winds and rain in Snowdonia. So i guess the best option was to go with you to Beddgelert on the Guerrilla, Nice to see where you worked and lived.all those years ago. Great ride out and thankyou for ALL videos of which we enjoy. So have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Take care, Ride safe, Bfn Mike , Sunny Wales
Hi Ian, another great vid it's great around portmadock and beddgelit and the roads are good and that river was amazing happy Christmas and New year to you and your wife and family and look forward to the next vids and the vids to come next year
Great vid Ian. A lovely road to ride on a motorcycle. Gorgeous scenery, well it is Wales. How different things look in the winter with no leaves on the tree's, nice to get an unobstructed view. The view from bridge you stopped at for your piccie was spectacular; I luv looking over bridges, can't resist it. Enjoyed the bit about the Hall you worked at, interesting, stuff like that. I power my Gopro from a battery pack in my pocket; only downside is the camera is no longer waterproof, because you need to open the camera up to connect the power cable. Don't know if your aware of the new VED rates in 2025. As you know, vehicles are rated on emissions. Our 2.2L Evoque is going up from £400 to £1400. I was thinking about your van. If the motor is a 1.8 or 2.0L you might be looking at a bigish rise too. My 2003 3.2L V6 TT mid life crisis is going up to £3K, yep you read it right, three thousand pounds. Trouble is, not many folk know about these massive hikes in VED. Campervans, a biggish car or SUV for towing are gonna get hammered. Not to mention anyone with a works van. Anyway, really enjoyed this video and a merry Christmas to you and Ann, have a wonderful time; don't eat and drink too much, coz I will be, well not so much the drink, but deffo the eating.
Many thanks Neil. No I wasn’t aware of the hike in VED, what the hell ? I will have to investigate ! All the best to you and Ann too. I am hoping to do a short Christmas based video tomorrow, for release Christmas Eve, maybe before. 🎄🎅
Another great ride Ian! As you came into Beddgelert, you mentioned a car park up a little road on the left ........ I think that's where I parked when I went to the Prince Llewelyn that time, when I saw the Milky Way in all it's glory. I seem to remember there was no street lighting and we struggled to find the car park and then the car ...... I'll have to remember to take a torch next time 😊 Phil (Somerset)
@@ianhughesroyalenfield I remember clearly that I came out of the pub and headed across the road and over the bridge (towards Porthmadog) then, after 100 yards or so, it was on the left so probably was that very car park. Anyway, nice to see it all again on your ride (in daylight 😊) and from the cockpit of the best motorcycle in the universe!! 😁👍 When you pulled in at the steps to Watkin path, I was kind of hoping you would carry on up the drive to the campsite for a nosey around ..... maybe next time? 😊
To be honest, I almost did pop up to the campsite, but hopefully the link in the description of part 4, will suffice for now. Maybe next year, I will start a ride from the campsite, going over Llanberis Pass then somewhere else 🤔
Thanks James….unfortunately it was one of those days, where things just didn’t seem to go right. I should have left the camera at the angle it was in the first two vids 🙄, but I didn’t think the footage would be any good. I should have checked the footage, before changing the angle…..ahh well, at least it came out ok. We gave up the rat race, and as a result we did some pretty awesome stuff. Cheers
Ahh yes, the one further up. That one can be really busy during peak times, stunning location too, on the shore of Llyn Gwynant. We had loads of Duke of Edinburgh, and Boys Brigade groups. I had a really good relationship with the organisers.
Impressive one Ian some fabulous countryside around them there parts .I would guess working for the National Trust would give you a lot of opportunities to work in some great places possibly nationwide since they are everywhere or maybe it doesn't work like that ?.😉👍
Thanks Mal. No, we were just there….but….through Ann’s involvement with the shop, and me being “willing muscle”, we went to the Royal Welsh Show a couple of times, staying in nice places, all expense’s paid. Ann did get to visit other properties for training etc. The management there were a bit of an odd breed though…but I won’t go into that on here 🫣😂 Through my involvement with the campsite, I/we met some great people, even making life long friendships. Liaising with other campsite staff, from Trust sites around the country was most enjoyable too. My caretaker role at the hall, was really quite enjoyable, stressful at times, but enjoyable. There wasn’t anything quite like that feeling, when I had set it all up ready for a wedding party (or any other’s), setting and lighting the fires, just as the guests were arriving, and seeing them wowed by the ambiance, before slipping away, back to the gatehouse. Very rewarding 🤗
It was Paul, though it did have its negatives. The location was fantastic, especially when I was snowed in for two weeks, didn’t see anyone….bonus. Some of the staff though, were very hostile, including management. At the campsite, in the year before I started, they had a turnover of about £7k….in my first year, we had a turnover of about £12k, then in the 2nd, it was over £18k. Most of it was due to repeat visitors…..I even had a fan club. At the end of season meeting, you would think there might have been a bit of gratitude, but nope….the manager even warned me that he wasn’t sure whether I would be asked to run it again 😂. As it was, my contract had ended at Craflwyn, so we were leaving anyway, but he didn’t know that.
@ianhughesroyalenfield that's why I live in the mountains right off the Appalachian trial , with black bears as my neighbors. Id rather live with them than people. Well your out of there that's good then.
You sound like you’re really enjoying riding it. Because of your experience do you stop overnight in hotels or bed and breakfast and how do you find the costs and what’s the food like ? I intend to start doing some journeys in whales in the spring. 😊
Hi Donna. We have Zebedee, our folding caravan. If you look at part 1, we leave Barmouth and Zebedee, so no, I/we don’t stop at B+B’s. When we go all over, Scorpio (or Clementine) is in the back of the van, with Zebedee in tow. Unfortunately, I can’t really give you a run down on costs, other than what ever you do, keep out of peak seasons. All the best 🎄🎅
Oh Ian I forgot you have Zebedee of course you have a movable base which is very good. I think I would still do rides like yours but have to work out the costs and like you said if I keep it out of season should be good. Can I just say I enjoy your videos because of your knowledge and because you join the dots together for rides and routes I don’t know about. Thanks 👍🏍️
Morning, although adding the road name/numbers takes a lot of time in editing, I know there are a few who benefit from this information, and it sounds like you do too. Cheers
If I jump a light or ignore a road closure it usually gets edited out 😅 saw one channel other day doing a road test with speedo showing 15mph above limit on a bike review!
Was it TMF by any chance ? He was doing over 70mph on the Guerrilla. I pixelate those parts, as if I didn’t, on some vids there wouldn’t be enough footage left to post if I edited them out 🫣😂 The red light thing, wasn’t really a thing, more of a silly junction layout. I had gone through on green, but had to wait for a van before turning, just as amber was turning to red.
Hi lan that gentleman was me. What happened was you were turning right at a junction but the lights are off set to the junction so when you did turn right the red light was showing for traffic to your left. I did comment as I sore it but after reviewing a bit later I then seen the traffic queued at the lights and there was a lady about to cross . As you’ve said I removed the post happily owning my mistake 👍🏿. Maybe you could watch that back some time to verify merry Christmas 👍🏿
Ahh, hi Des. Just checked, it is as we dropped down into Galgate, where those silly traffic lights were. When I went though “my” lights, they were on green, but by the time the van coming in the opposite direction had passed, the lights had started to change 🤔. A bit of a daft set up there really. It also didn’t help, that the van wasn’t indicating where he intended to go, very unhelpful 🙄. Though now, I can see where you were coming from, though I think the lady was jumping the gun a bit 😂 All the very best to you 🎄
Hi, yes, like the Lake District but squished into a smaller area. 😂. To be honest, I haven’t looked at the mpg, will have a look next time out. I would imagine it would be about mid 70’s, as I am going so much quicker.

The A498 looks like a spectacular road to ride!
It is quite wonderful, no matter the season, though it is rare to have so little traffic…..I was blessed that day. Cheers

Why the navigation device, the Royal Enfield has one built in?!
Because I often find myself in area’s with little or no mobile internet, which is what the RE system needs to work.
