    Playing the forecast truly makes such a huge difference. Does one always win a roll of the dice? No... But, more often than not, thinking in such fashion pays off handsomely. The haze (or here, sometimes on wildfire smoke-haze days), sun angles and holes/breaks in clouds often make for incredible crepuscular rays to play with prior to setting up for a sunset. I chuckled while watching this, for it reminds me of myself while working out compositions and then playing out the light show. Great advice!

      Thanks a lot mate. Yes, those crepuscular rays are quite common here. We use to chase them when doing aerials by positioning ourselves on the right angle below the cloud. Great fun!

      @@WilliamPatinoPhotography You're quite welcome. That makes me wish that I was still doing aerial work, for we never tried that. That would have been great fun, indeed!

    Hi William, that was a fantstic insight into planning and all the elements coming together! Amazing light indeed, looking forward to seeing some of the final images when you post them. I agree, with you about not trying to immediately edit the RAW image files too soon. Waiting is a GOOD thing to do in the current age of instantaneous gratification. Cheers!

    Awesome stuff Will! Like you I live and breath sunrise and sunset seascapes - so great to see how you plan your shoots and use weather apps and find locations. I could really relate to the anxiety about deciding on a final location and composition once there though - had this exact issue last Friday down at my local beach at sunrise as the colour changes fast but had the advantage of having scoped out some possible comps the evening before so I didn't have to hunt around in the dark - the dilemma of an eastern facing coastline!

    Informative and inspiring - thanks for what you have the capacity to prep these vids & share. Spent time shooting in the Catlins leveraging a bunch of your shutter-drag & comp tips. Wish I had your steadiness, I get too much motion without the tripod... Looking forward to hearing about the project that's holding back the good stuff...
    Also - can I suggest you could do a vid shooting some of the Southland rolling countryside with the winter sunlight & long shadows. I have some nice marketable shots (long lens) from between Clinton & Balclutha as I drove through a couple of weeks back. Didn't have the time to explore... I think it would be a nice variation for your channel.

    Great video as always and your enthusiasm is infectious. I am still looking at editing some images from last winter so I can understand the no rush thing going on. They do seem to look different a few months later when revisited. Enjoy the moment. Great to meet you at Tasman Glacier Lake a few nights ago. I just got my stars with the mountain tops starting to glow from the rising moon. Take care. Tracey

    Totally agree with your thoughts on not editing and sharing the images straight away. Its the journey that you take to get them in the first place is what I enjoy watching. Lots of great advice and inspiration in this video. Don't put pressure on yourself, just do it when it feels right. You should be at 130k + subscribers considering the content you are putting out.

    Gorgeous sunset! I usually don’t look at photos upon arriving home. I hook my monitor up to the HDMI port on the camera and will cull the non-keepers right away. Question: I know the light changes sometimes more quickly than others , but do you find it tends to change quicker on sunrises than sunsets?

    Thanks for all the great content Will. Hoping you can help me with a few questions which came to mind watching this.
    1) Why do u elect to not use a tripod when shooting a scene like this at 1/10 @ 50mm ?
    2) what was your ISO thru out the shoot
    3) with such a high dynamic range in the scene do you alway shoot single frames and why not brackets ?
    Cheers mate

    • @WilliamPatinoPhotography
      @WilliamPatinoPhotography  4 місяці тому +1

      Thanks for the support mate. No tripod needed because I can get the image sharp handheld and I prefer the freedom of handheld. Iso typically 100-200. No bracketing needed because of the sensors high dynamic range. Cheers :)

    Hahaha that video is great! I actually successfully predicted my second sunset last night with windy, but then I got overexcited with a drone and scrapped my big cam plans … kinda messed it up, normally I’d be kicking myself but just had such fun that I don’t even care! The photos look amazing! (I really want to know the secret project haha 😇😇😇

    Just wondering if you use the premium version of Windy? I was considering getting it due to the refresh rate and possibly availability of another forecast model but the free version is pretty amazing in its own right too.
