      I don't think this truly applies but I tried out as a walk on and got cut because the pitcher was pitching in side step. He kept pitching before I was even ready in the batters box. I pulled a kid to left center that got a scholarship to Maryland and threw harder than him before. It just made me look bad trying get ready then swinging. Coach should've saw what was going on but s**t happens.

    A couple other tips:
    - Choke up if you need to (I normally do with 2 strikes vs fast pitchers)
    - move all the way back in the box
    - think about being urgent while still taking a good swing
    - focus on connecting and don’t try to kill it

    What's so frustrating with youth/volunteer coaches, is they really don't know how to teach a kid to hit. They also ridicule entirely too much, which gets into the kids head then you are dealing with another set of issues. My advice is to get your kid to watch these videos, or get him a hitting coach that KNOWS what they are doing. And then tell their youth coaches, to not mess with his swing. I volunteer coach, and leave it up to guys who know what they are doing to instruct them the right way. I've learned a lot just watching these videos. thank you!

    Question: let’s say we have access to a cage and pitching machine. Would consistently taking reps at a high velocity help? Would it help it become “second nature”? (and I’m using that term lightly). I know the answer is probably obvious but baseball is a tricky game. But in your personal experience, would you recommend this?

    • @cwj9202
      @cwj9202 2 роки тому +2

      Making practice more difficult than game experience is always good, so yes. Ensure the swing is correct. Perfect practice makes perfect, not practice makes perfect.

  • @DoctorISin1
    @DoctorISin1 6 років тому +2

    Your last suggestion is to hit behind plate so as to see more of the ball “perceived velocity.” - makes sense. How does that gel with popular recommendation to make contact in front of plate, ie “get your bat “in front” recommendation from many coaches?

    • @AntonelliBaseball
      @AntonelliBaseball  6 років тому +4

      Well I think you hit the ball out front, but you don't want to try and go out and get the ball. You turn your body deep, let the bat get in the zone deep, and then you can still hit the ball out front. Thanks for watching!!
