I don't think this truly applies but I tried out as a walk on and got cut because the pitcher was pitching in side step. He kept pitching before I was even ready in the batters box. I pulled a kid to left center that got a scholarship to Maryland and threw harder than him before. It just made me look bad trying get ready then swinging. Coach should've saw what was going on but s**t happens.
A couple other tips:
- Choke up if you need to (I normally do with 2 strikes vs fast pitchers)
- move all the way back in the box
- think about being urgent while still taking a good swing
- focus on connecting and don’t try to kill it
Thanks for watching and commenting!!
VX Matthew do you load when his hands separate? He is leaning back on his backside so I would assume that’s when we gotta start loading.
yes
Bro as a pitcher crowd the plate on 2 like have your left foot almost on it blue will never call it and it’s so hard on the pitcher because it’s either gonna be outside or it’s gonna hit you
What's so frustrating with youth/volunteer coaches, is they really don't know how to teach a kid to hit. They also ridicule entirely too much, which gets into the kids head then you are dealing with another set of issues. My advice is to get your kid to watch these videos, or get him a hitting coach that KNOWS what they are doing. And then tell their youth coaches, to not mess with his swing. I volunteer coach, and leave it up to guys who know what they are doing to instruct them the right way. I've learned a lot just watching these videos. thank you!
Yup getting the bat in the zone sooner is huge. Very good tips.
I was 12 u throwing 60s but I got hit by a truck and I was out for 3 years and I just got back into baseball as a freshman and now I’m not really making contact against high velocity pitchers but yesterday I went into the box and used your tips and I got my first hit of the season thank you so much you don’t know how much this helped
Hit by a truck and out for 3 years...
Kinda lol, but at the same time that's my worst nightmare.
@@rslwannabe9475 yeah i was scared to get back into travel ball the first year they told me i couldn’t play hockey or baseball this season because i had screws in my ankle
Could you do a video in how to stay in sequence while hitting? I know it’s kind of long and complicated.
There’s a pitcher in my district that throw 94 heaters
I need this video
DyingCosmic Dang that’s mega gas
there’s a senior now and him and his brother throw 96 :/
This really helped, Thanks! I have a 12u all star game where I normally face mid 50’s, and I have to adjust to 65 from 46’.
65 isnt fast
@@parkervarney2793 for a 12 year old it is you idiot
@@parkervarney2793 from 46 feet, 65 is very fast, especially for a 12 year old
@@sportzhighlightz8093 pretty average if your playing at a high level, I faced 73mph at 46ft last weekend
What’s slow to you may be fast to somebody else. Stop being “that guy”. The kid was just saying it helped him.
What are some great weighted workouts for hitters?
Once got a base hit pull side against a kid throwing 96. He only threw fastballs so we knew what was coming. I started my load up during his wind up and got extremely lucky.
can you make a video on how to recover after elbow injury thx
Thanks Matt your the best.

Thanks
thanks
First season of jv baseball and I gotta get used to this
Well said.

As a hitter, what's your opinion on a solid knuckle ball pitcher?
Practice looking cool on ur walk back to the dugout
If you don't see the ball spin when it leaves the pitchers hand don't swing
I will send your shit out the park 😂
@@kaiodicisdogwater9369 ?
What do you mean when you say load deeper?
When you were playing, did you change your position in the batters box depending on how fast the guy was throwing? Or did you line up in the same spot each time?
I stayed in the same spot all the time. I feel like you get a feel for what a ball and strike looks like from that position, so I don't like changing. Thanks for watching!
Question: let’s say we have access to a cage and pitching machine. Would consistently taking reps at a high velocity help? Would it help it become “second nature”? (and I’m using that term lightly). I know the answer is probably obvious but baseball is a tricky game. But in your personal experience, would you recommend this?
Making practice more difficult than game experience is always good, so yes. Ensure the swing is correct. Perfect practice makes perfect, not practice makes perfect.
Nice!
Do you think Toe tap is good???
I think it's personal preference. Thanks for watching and commenting!!
how do we hit it well?
Your last suggestion is to hit behind plate so as to see more of the ball “perceived velocity.” - makes sense. How does that gel with popular recommendation to make contact in front of plate, ie “get your bat “in front” recommendation from many coaches?
Well I think you hit the ball out front, but you don't want to try and go out and get the ball. You turn your body deep, let the bat get in the zone deep, and then you can still hit the ball out front. Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for your reply.
@@AntonelliBaseball thanks for the explanation!
@@AntonelliBaseball Great question. Great answer !
Any updates on when you will be posting the video comparing contrasting metal cleats and plastic cleats?
Not sure yet. I have about 1000 videos to get to lol. Thanks for watching and commenting!!
Speaking of metal cleats , does any brand make metal cleats that dont pull out from the plastic?
Does the top hand palm up or slight up swing apply to high pitches in the strike zone?
At ball/bat contact, the top hand is always palm up.
im not worried abt the speed ever since I went to the cages I hit 55 at the cages and one time it stung rlly bad so I had that fear ever since but now im over it and im only 12 and now hit 60s to 65
i went from like maybe 60 to 85 playing for this older team it’s very difficult
Any drills you can recommend for hitting hard throwing pitchers?
We work off hard velocity with our pitching machine. Also will just decrease the distance of front toss and batting practice. Will also have BP pitchers mix pitches
This is why I gave up baseball and started playing ice hockey lol those curves, change ups and fastballs completely eluded me 🤷♂️
Need to launch everything deeper! Couldn’t you just set the machine at 105 and go from there? With good mechanics from the start
What if I’m at lake point and he’s throwing 92 followed by 88 curveball
Ian Navarro i think you just leave it up to jesus. Haha!
Just do what I’ve done forever. Eliminate every pitch except fastball. In every AB you will see at least one fastball in the zone. That’s your pitch. You miss that chance then let Jesus take the wheel 😂
If his curve is 88 his fastball is 107
Good luck! lol. Thanks for watching and commenting!!
See the ball, hit the ball.
❤❤❤❤
Is there a specific spot I need my hands?
it depends on were the ball is
Any tips to keep my head in? I struggle with that a lot
Watch the ball all the way in and practice keeping your eyes glued to the spot where your bat contacts the ball
@@danielbrottlund6904 are you supposed to see your bat hit the ball? Because I see the ball and can never see the bat coming in . I watch it al the way in and then swing but never see the bat
@@liamlogan5337 you watch the ball all the way to the point where it connects with your bat. You should see it only at that point of contact.
@@danielbrottlund6904 oh cause in my field of view I can’t see the bat only the ball and then I use my hand eye cordnation and whip the bat at it
@@danielbrottlund6904 and everything I’ve tried to research says that we can’t actually see the bat hit the ball and that we lose sight of it as some point
Who else is learning how to hit fast because their in allstars and you go up against fast pitchers 👀
Not all stars but for my school
approach as well. Tell yourself you WILL not get beat by the fastball
4:20 Launch the bat deeper
Tech us how to hit looping balls at the plate
I have a few videos on that
Who do you guys want the AL mvp to be. Mookie or J D?
Trout
micah bettis I'd be fine with either, because I'm a sox fan. But if I had to choose I would go mookie
What about how to hit a curveball/slider?
republicansridiots , sit fastball and adjust to the curve and slider. Once you recognize the curve or slider, Think right center, let the ball travel and unleash what you have left
I drop my hands does anyone have any drills for me to stop
That could be used as a timing mechanism. As long as you get them back up you should be fine. Be aware not to drop them too much though...
Barry Bonds was using steroids, great example
Assuming you don't bring them back up to @ rear shoulder height, to defeat that hitch use a high tee that is between the waist and the letters and try to hit line drives at @ 10 - 13 degrees. I have found that to be successful over time.
Hey matt, are you a chewing gum guy or seeds??
Both, but neither while playing just on bench. Thanks for watching and commenting!!
Trim the fat in the swing
Start closer to your launch position
I always listen to ugh! By BTS and I struggle with hand speed but it hypes me up so my adrenaline goes📈📈📈
BTS is trash
Kazarux that’s just your (unpopular and rude) opinion :)
Everyone watching this like 😐 because they know they are scared of fast pitching
I get a kick out of your "chewing" in your opener... You dont actually chew it unless its redman
Maybe it is lol. Thanks for watching!!!
@@AntonelliBaseball absolutely. Im just getting back into baseball after 14 years.. Im 26. Am i too old? Any advice? Thanks
