This is the 2nd posting of this video in case anyone is confused. The first time round I made a strange brain fart where I said he fired once every 45 seconds. Decided this was too big an error and took the original down to correct the idiotic mistake.
This video series is so great. Thanks for making them. These are great introduction videos to each Hero in Overwatch and you get the points across in a smooth and easy to follow fashion. Keep up the good work!
Junkrat - my favorite hero so far. I've had so much fun obliterating people during the beta! You just splash, splash, splash grenades on top of people's heads, and if that's not enough? Oh, wait! I got some presents for ye - take this mine as a token of my appreciation! Best utilization so far to me, is defending choke points from enemy flankers. He can easily solo these, especially if you have Hanzo or Widowmaker to give you vision of your enemy's position, so you can time your traps and grenades well. Long story short? The most fun I've had so far in this game, was playing Junkrat.
+fakewalka Definitely one of my favorites, alongside Tracer (although I'm almost undoubtedly better with Junkrat). I've found he's also really, REALLY good in enclosed point-defense scenarios (think the Nepal gazebo or the shrine) or payloads--especially, I found, in the last couple meters of Route 66. Playing up close and personal against clustered enemies means he does RIDICULOUS spam damage without any real need to aim, and his concussion mine can very quickly be used to disengage if you find yourself staring down the barrel of a Pharah while simultaneously giving you high ground to rain mayhem on the point. Such a wonderful hero, with a personality to match xD
Bossked I prefer to use the mine to blast people away. Works better imo. Junkrat can solo almost any choke point against 2 or even 3 attackers. He's just crazy and I like it :) If I had to make a hero for this game, that would probably be Junkrat. Spread the Junkrat love
fakewalka I do that too. Usually both simultaneously lol. But if it's something like a Tracer or a Genji that I don't think I can hit, or a Pharah or someone who can benefit from high ground on me, I'll send myself up instead. Depends on the situation lol.
Good video. As a Junkrat nut, I have come across a few things you didn't mention however: Placing traps is great, especially when combined with C4 to easily kill 200hp (or less) heroes. However, one thing you didn't say in the video is that the C4 mine is, if I'm not mistaken, just as easy to see for the enemy as it is for you. This means that if you put a C4 on top of your bear trap, it'll stick out like a sore thumb and easily be spotted/destroyed. What I tend to do is to put my bear trap down near a doorway, then put C4 on the wall next to it (or the ceiling if it's low enough), so that the C4 is only visible to the enemy once they've stepped on the trap (at which point they'll be dead). This also means that if the enemy DOES see (and thereby destroy) your trap, placing a new one in the same spot doesn't initiate your C4's cooldown because they will probably not spot it. Another tactic that I use a lot is to place a C4 mine, jump up in the air above a group of people, and throw down a bear trap during my jump. Since people generally don't look, up, they don't see this coming, and it more often than not results in one of them stepping on the trap. Easy kill. This tactic has somewhat limited use, yet is still good to know: Place your C4 somewhere, and wait for it to go off cooldown. Now, blow yourself up in the air, then throw and immediately detonate another one at the apex of your jump. This often leads to you hitting the skybox, but you can gain some serious height otherwise. Not often useful, but always good to know.
+Machine977 Good stuff. I didn't think of being sneaky with the mine and also just chucked it near or on the trap, but will be doing this going forward.
+Machine977 another thing to keep in mind is that if Reinhardt is shielding his entire team to push an objective, use the c4 to send him flying and leave the other enemies out in the open.
Works, but only in certain scenarios. The shield blocks the C4 so he needs to be walking forwards to step on it once it's landed, or you need to throw it above the shield. Throwing it at him and detonating immediately does nothing but damage the shield.
Your mine and trap stay on the ground after you die, if not used or destroyed by enemy players. Enemies can be trapped and mine can be detonated after Junkrat respawns
I main junkrat and this vid really underhypes the mine jumping. Im always in the air; its akin to being a rocket jumping soldier or even pharah, but the speed and trajectory make him harder to hit from snipers. Usually im the one to go after snipers since i can quickly flank or even just bounce up to them fast by boomeranging around and up the building. Snipers and Reinhardts are the things i kill easiest, but i die instantly to bastians if they spot me. Pharahs are the stalemate... we have a hard time hitting each other and usually just pass thru avoiding contact or ill bounce up to her to do it at close range. The mine is usually more for me than for the enemy and i got long life expectancy; tho this is a roamer roll so dont ever expect a healer to spot you. Pro tip: send the tire thru Reinhardt's shield or bounce up to a roof and drop the tire onto the payload. The trap is incidentally a team playing ability if you trap someone and someone else shoots them down, but really, this is a roamer character that helps just by killing a bunch but doesnt have too much synergy with anyone else other than taking care of call-outs
I main junkrat and reinhardt. So it's great. I know how to counter a junkrat from experience on playing one, and i know how to counter a reinhardt from experience on playing one. I'm better at reinhardt though, and i find that junkrats are easy to pick off when they use their concussion mine, even if they use the trap, reinhardt's charge is unaffected by it, and with out the mine hes an easy charge or firestrike kill. Pro tip: Always make sure you are hitting two people at once when playing as reinhardt so you can get the most out of each swing. Unless of course you are fighting one person.
sorry about that I may have gotten 5 play of the game scenes as him in 1 day what I hated though was that as soon as I got my 1st play of the game somebody copied me and became junk rat and pretty much ruined the game with a terrible score and kill streak
Using a weapon with that much drop, a low ground position can be pretty effective, especially if the enemy has some sort of ceiling above them you can bankshot grenades off of.
Conc mines can also be detonated mid-throw and have a longer thrown range than the trap, so I'll toss the mine at Pharah when she hovers and wait to detonate when it gets close enough. It's a decent anti-air tactic if you get the timing down, and it means you don't have to as accurate as the frag launcher needs to be.
As a bit of a Junkrat freak, I've developed some of my own personal strats and as such have a few small disagreements with the guide. C4 and Bear Trap: I typically will set the bear trap on whatever point I'm defending or throw it into the area where the enemy is if I'm attacking, and then set the C4 where I think the enemies will show. However, once detonated, and recharged, if I'm in the midst of a fight, I like to throw the C4 into the crowd and detonate immediately, as that's good for some kills on weaker heroes. With a good toss of the bear trap into the midst of a complex team fight, you can turn the tides if you can land it on a tank like Roadhog or Winston. Setting Traps and Hiding: I almost never play like that. In fact, I have had more success rushing to the front lines and tossing bombs and bear traps and C4s into the crowd than I have ever had running and hiding after setting my traps. In a sense, playing more recklessly than many would recommend has reaped greater rewards for me. Riptire: With Riptire I tend to simply wait until either Widowmaker has activated her visor or Soldier 76 has ulted or what have you, and then send my Tire along the path to get to the enemies. Recommend that you send the Tire along behind the enemies, though that's a bit of a no-brainer. and lastly, Normal Bombs: A lot of people disagree with me, but I have often found that instead of trying to line up direct hits on enemies (which can often be practically impossible, especially from the front lines) what I like to do is fire at the ground right next to enemies, almost like Pharah. Except in doing this I've upset literally every Junkrat player I've ever talked to, because it's not the way I'm "supposed" to play. And despite that, it is extremely successful and satisfying. The biggest things to look out for doing this are bold Reapers on the front lines and Zenyattas with clever Discord orbs. Though if you've got tanks around, they're most likely focusing their attention on them. Opinions?
I also tend to play from the front lines alot. However, on one of the maps (can't remember which one) there's a window near last point that allows you to spam grenades onto the point without exposing yourself, which is great for attack.
I found a fun exploit in which you effectively troll everyone by having your friend go pocket mercy with you and spawn camp with that practically endless health and attack boost. Specifically, tossing C4 and immediately detonating when a crowd builds up. Works well with a Bastion, Torbjorn, or 76 there too.
+Dylan Teare-Mercure Well I say if the way you play works for you then that is the way your "supposed" to do it. I play in the mid to front line sometimes right in the middle of the fight, don't really like playing up high with Junkrat but that is my style, can definitely see playing him up high though. Really like him on the transport missions, I hug the vehicle dropping traps and mines.
tetrahedron rip tire is a deadly force from above because no one expects it that fast. Also another great tactic is annoying people into chasing you into a room, placing your bear trap, and then killing them. I also like to throw the mine/trap combo at beginning enemy spawn because it always take out the reinheart trying to push through the door. Either way junk rat is really good in tactical situations.
Although I only played in open beta, i main junk rat and a tip that I have is to use the steel trap to catch tracer. Also, if a reaper ever makes the mistake of teleporting to close to you, trap him to
My fave combo is throwing the mine through a window while attacking a point then raining in bombs. Get so many little kills from launching the mine into the thick of things
Junkrat makes me smile. Like, the kind of smile that rivals the Grinch himself. My family will never understand how much I enjoy this crazy yet lovable freak ^-^
I think it should be mentioned that he can counter stationary defenses like Bastion and Torbjörns turrets really well, as they can't shoot him around corners.
Once I tossed a concussion mine under an enemy Reaper as he activated his Death Blossom. It was so satisfying to watch him spin away in the air and then fall to one of my grenades.
The steel trap immobilizes enemies for 3 seconds, not 1 second. I'm not sure if it was 1 second during closed beta but it is 3 seconds now so there should be an annotation added clarifying this.
a terror in capable hands XD I had the sweetest junkrat on my team who worked so hard to keep me safe as mercy. Appreciate it always. Also, enemy riptires somehow find me anywhere I hide >.
I could be wrong but does anyone think that Junkrat's fool skin is a reference/homage to Jester/Arkham from DMC3? It even replaces the riptire with a moon design that resembles Jester's as it has one red eye and one blue eye
So I really enjoy Junkrat and would consider myself to be a fairly decent player at him. But I thought I'd watch this anyways to see tips that other people found that maybe I didn't, and I didn't even know the tire could climb walls, let alone be muffled. So huge thanks for that. I"ll have to try that sometime. Cuz I'm sure all junkrat players know how much they hate their tires getting destroyed.
+Suspicious Flaming Pyro I should have talked about how it can be stuck to any surface. My Steel Trap / Mine combos will be using wall or ceiling mines from now on.
you forgot the suicide combo, where you are on really low health and are in the middle of a large fight, you through down a bear trap at an enemy's feet and wait by them, you die and drop bombs and they die too
What I want to know first and foremost is what scum is giving this downvotes? Also, I've been waiting for this guide, Junkrat is my Go-to for any map where I feel like I need to swap to a comfort pick. I was unaware of the trap + mine combo, and want to give it a shot. Ideally you want to use the trap more proactively on payload I think as well. Also, cool tip to test out is the Mine can be placed vertically on walls, so I've been able to damage people and launch them outside of rooms by putting them on the wall/ceiling and expose them. I've also used the mine as an easier lob over reinhardt to kick them off points and payloads to expose the back-line for a few moments. P.S. I started an overwatch podcast finally called Omnic Lab and we just got on itunes! I'm curious as to your opinions and thoughts on the show! Feel free to contact us on twitter @OmnicLab and my personal feed is @notrob
+notrobmay The sneaky mine could be the way forward. I'll check out the podcast next time I'm doing some cleaning or cooking. Without a commute to work I don't have the time I used to have for podcast but I would be interested to see what you guys are doing.
Dude I love this junk rat so bad. The gameplay on this guy is phenomenal! I did not know that could climb on walls. Sa west. Hey I'll be uploading the highlight for this dude.
I read somewhere that Junkrat's rip tire deals 600 dmg up close on the ground, but if you jump with it before detonating it then it'll only deal 400, is there any truth to that?
I think they should add a slightly longer delay on his trap arming itself. I hate that Junkrat can use it like a Mcree stun in a fight. It shouldn't be a throw-able root it should be a TRAP!
+Rikana If you look in the direction of the trap you placed there will be a symbol of the trap and the words triggered beside it if somebody gets caught by it. It will do the same if it is destroyed except it will say destroyed instead of triggered. If you step on a trap the word stuck will appear on the screen.
Not quite shure if this is working, but I was killed by that rip-tire while I was playing as Rainhard with my shield up. Looked like the tire was ignoring the shield...
+Martin Wackerbauer The explosion of the tire will be absorbed by the shield but the tire itself can pass through the shield before exploding. A Junkrat the knows what he's doing will just go past your shield before detonating.
I want to enjoy Junkrat but my friends says he has like no skill to him and they would never talk to me again. I feel like they only fought Junkrat in scenarios where Junkrat can go wild and bring explosive hell on a small area.
They were joking, but it makes me feel like I would be despised in a way. I wanted to play Bastion before I knew any of the characters, after finding out of his reputation. I looked into more characters, Junkrat and Zenyatta only interest me enough to actually use. But I don't own the game as of now.
Now I finally have the game and I found out why he is annoying to my friends, and I quote, "He just isn't fun to play, you aim here maybe get some kills aim there maybe get some kills." I played junkrat and I love playing as him but not quite as much as my favorite character.
For me, there's something about annoying characters who aren't as annoying once you start to master them. Junkrat is that character for me, and I LOVE it. >:) In my best game so far as him, I gave these tanks and a Tracer a really hard time. Check out my latest vid if you wanna see (no subs if you don't want to, just wanna prove my point).

That last tip about putting the tire against a wall is super useful, I never would have figured that out! Great video!
This video series is so great. Thanks for making them.

I disagree on a big point made in this video. Junkrat is not bat shit bonkers he is just a misunderstood visionary of the future!
+Johnny Grove I do not want to live in that future!
He's Michael Bay in ten years
+System509 hahaha 😂
+Cynical Nerds i most certainly do hes like my spirit animal
haha that was a big misunderstanding..
Your mine and trap stay on the ground after you die, if not used or destroyed by enemy players. Enemies can be trapped and mine can be detonated after Junkrat respawns
this video, WHAT A LOVELY VIDEO
Thank you for posting these excellent guides! They are just the right length and depth for a beginner who wants to learn all of the heroes.

Same, but I'm that junkrat player :)
+abbhay keenoo (Ai-MaChInE) That person is me >=)
I am that junk rat master tho. I pull of those play of the games easily
sorry about that
I may have gotten 5 play of the game scenes as him in 1 day
what I hated though was that as soon as I got my 1st play of the game somebody copied me and became junk rat and pretty much ruined the game with a terrible score and kill streak
Mwaaaaaahaha junkrat is so fun to play I've turned evil >:-)
Using a weapon with that much drop, a low ground position can be pretty effective, especially if the enemy has some sort of ceiling above them you can bankshot grenades off of.
It is smart to use the trap on Reinhardt when he's charging at you due to the few seconds it usually takes them to get to you.
+Xyrox Sounds like a really good tip, I'll give that a go next opportunity I have.
Conc mines can also be detonated mid-throw and have a longer thrown range than the trap, so I'll toss the mine at Pharah when she hovers and wait to detonate when it gets close enough. Great content and extensive guide, you need more subs man

Junkrat is so much fun. I haven't played him much, but I enjoyed every second.
Although I only played in open beta, i main junk rat and a tip that I have is to use the steel trap to catch tracer. Also, if a reaper ever makes the mistake of teleporting to close to you, trap him to
just a tip pharah is kinda and wz target to trow a flying mine to, while she hoovers the mine can be trown on air to explode while near her
My fave combo is throwing the mine through a window while attacking a point then raining in bombs. Get so many little kills from launching the mine into the thick of things
Great vid man I really enjoy Junkrat but kinda suck with him and this was a big help, gg dude.
These are some high class review bro, good shit!
thank u nerd for posting this awesome number one junkrat vid to get info to master my fav hero
These videos are great. Can't wait for one on Zenyatta!
Junkrat makes me smile. Like, the kind of smile that rivals the Grinch himself. My family will never understand how much I enjoy this crazy yet lovable freak ^-^
Nothing more satisfying than to use the concussion mine to jump around!
I think it should be mentioned that he can counter stationary defenses like Bastion and Torbjörns turrets really well, as they can't shoot him around corners.
conc mine is an amazing combo ability and can finish of weakend targets also if you shoot a grenade and then conc mine it does a lot of damage
Once I tossed a concussion mine under an enemy Reaper as he activated his Death Blossom. It was so satisfying to watch him spin away in the air and then fall to one of my grenades.
I could listen to you talk about heroes all day long.
In fact, I have.
I do* actually, nah ?
Oh nvm
2:03 TRIGGERED
U can also use the grenade to jump up on high ledges, good for junk rat
and thx for the e/shift combo man! it really helped me out and its to fun to do
Junkrat can no longer hurt himself with his grenades!!!
Getting someone caught in his trap also charges his ultimate by 10%, which is a pretty large amount considering how devastating his ultimate can be.
When you master using Junkrat, every day is *A lovely day for some MAYHEM!*
I could be wrong but does anyone think that Junkrat's fool skin is a reference/homage to Jester/Arkham from DMC3? It even replaces the riptire with a moon design that resembles Jester's as it has one red eye and one blue eye
When you have 500k subs I'll be able to say I was here since 2k
Nice quick guide for the best hero ingame
So I really enjoy Junkrat and would consider myself to be a fairly decent player at him. But I thought I'd watch this anyways to see tips that other people found that maybe I didn't, and I didn't even know the tire could climb walls, let alone be muffled. So huge thanks for that. I"ll have to try that sometime. Cuz I'm sure all junkrat players know how much they hate their tires getting destroyed.
A couple things to note here:
Doesent damage self with nades
Trap got a buff I think it holds people longer now
These are all great. Thanks for making them.
Can't tracer use recall to get out of the steel trap?
Maybe you should have mentioned you can put the concussion mine on walls. I rarely see people do this
+Suspicious Flaming Pyro I should have talked about how it can be stuck to any surface. My Steel Trap / Mine combos will be using wall or ceiling mines from now on.
Word.

I'd appreciate it!
notrobmay Bastion mains I'm sure are downvoting lol. Junkrat counters him with ease
Junk Rat perfect for any situation offense and defense and any team build.
Very good guide! Very helpful! Thanks 👍🏼
Love you humor dude.
Have a sub :DD
I would love a guide or a hero to help me to easily beat him, all turret classes and snipers.
If the game was released the 24th of May 2016, how come so many people played it before that?
I'm rly confused..
Dude I love this junk rat so bad. The gameplay on this guy is phenomenal! I did not know that could climb on walls. Sa west. Hey I'll be uploading the highlight for this dude.
With regards to the Riptyre, if an enemy destroys it by shooting at it, do they take any damage?
+Daniel Samuels no
Junk rat is the best character in the game for me
Does the mine and trap combo still do the knockback or does the trap hold them?
+acme64 Pretty sure the trap holds them in place if it doesn't kill them.
i wish junkrat had a Mad Max style skin, roadhog too. it's too perfect not to
Well they already look like they are from Mad max
+Gandalf The Badass Wizard Ana amari's got a skin that I think directly references mad max
Anyone who mains junkrat is the bane of my existence. Ruins the experience for everyone.
+Victoria Lassiter I have
+Zach Adair Play Zarya. Junkrat spam = free energy then start shooting grenades right back
Reaper counters him and so does McCree, since Junkrat isn't that good in 1v1s and an airbourne pharah is good against him too
awesome guide, thanks man!
I read somewhere that Junkrat's rip tire deals 600 dmg up close on the ground, but if you jump with it before detonating it then it'll only deal 400, is there any truth to that?
I guess you gotta try it in a custom with a Roadhog
Random question: is hitting direct grenade pipes like hitting TF2 demoman pipes?
ya
Yes, but direct hits can also be made with grenade bouncing on the wall or even the floor! So Overwatch is more forgiving than TF2.
why does junkrat look like a stoned johnny test
Junk rat is one of my favorite heroes
I think they should add a slightly longer delay on his trap arming itself. I hate that Junkrat can use it like a Mcree stun in a fight. It shouldn't be a throw-able root it should be a TRAP!
great video he is a very interesting character
what a well made video, thanks
What indicates that someone has been caught by the trap?
+Rikana If you look in the direction of the trap you placed there will be a symbol of the trap and the words triggered beside it if somebody gets caught by it. It will do the same if it is destroyed except it will say destroyed instead of triggered. If you step on a trap the word stuck will appear on the screen.
"Triggered"
yes, that trap triggers me every time.
Not quite shure if this is working, but I was killed by that rip-tire while I was playing as Rainhard with my shield up. Looked like the tire was ignoring the shield...
sheild can blawck blast but not teh tire
+Martin Wackerbauer The explosion of the tire will be absorbed by the shield but the tire itself can pass through the shield before exploding. A Junkrat the knows what he's doing will just go past your shield before detonating.
I want to enjoy Junkrat but my friends says he has like no skill to him and they would never talk to me again. I feel like they only fought Junkrat in scenarios where Junkrat can go wild and bring explosive hell on a small area.
if your friends say they won't talk to you if you play junkrat, they're joking or they shouldn't be your friends. they sound like knobs.
They were joking, but it makes me feel like I would be despised in a way. I wanted to play Bastion before I knew any of the characters, after finding out of his reputation. I looked into more characters, Junkrat and Zenyatta only interest me enough to actually use. But I don't own the game as of now.
This is retarded. Junkrat is the Demo of Overwatch, meaning he's one of the classes with the most skill required
I feel Junkrat is more about causing chaos and confusing/split apart the other team than dealing damage
bought this game just based on hype, and I was not disappointed.
lol i got a battleborn ad before this video
So finnaly we can play with keemstar
I always avoided walls entirely when using his ult, I just assumed it would explode if i hit a wall.
Junkrat Guide - Hold Left Click
AddictionPlayz - Games & More! That's a strange way of spelling Bastion
Oh my god I love Junkrat
Thanks I didnt know u could pause the sound of the tire
I'm pretty sure that reaper can't escape the trap and he is an easy target if you put some distance between you and him with a mine
Junkrat no longer takes damage from his own attacks, even says that in the tooltip.
Junkrat is a pain in my arse whenever I play Reinhardt. He tears down this shield so fast.
Might be my most played Hero.
hes like a CoD troller's dream. Grenade Launcher with infinite ammo, C4, Trip mines, And an exploding tire that can one shot any hero. Lets go.
plus he has The Perk. As in, the one in CoD4 noone likes.
i call it
The Perk
Excellent overview. I hope your sub count increases as the game gets closer to launch date.
Could a friendly junkrat use the mine on my riptire to launch it in the air??
no,you can't knockback a friend
no but i'm pretty sure an enemy mine will launch it into the air instead. roadhog's hook will also grab the riptire and pull it towards him
I would technicly work, but the tire has only 100 hp and the mine deals 120 damage.
Junkrat and Tracer are my best
when the enemy is pushing the payload you can throw the bomb to get them of it
Junkrats my FAV!!!!!
I got really good with Junkrat really fast :D I hated that guy until I started playing with him, btw I still think he needs nerfing :P
I got a quad rip tire kill on my first game as junkrat 👍
lol, 5:14, the guy says he's the worst tracer
Dude I love your videos but please add like a combo order or somthing love you
Junk rat is the scout of the overwatch universe.
No......Lucio is
are you kidding me? Junkrat is definitely demoman
you mean demo
+ilke kunduraci I meant his personality.
+Domo Scout is no awesome psychopath with an Explosion fetish :P
Need someone to high five, stat. I laughed more than I probably should have.
GIVE IT UP! I HAVE THE HIGH GROUND
