  • After an overhaul of my Lycoming 0320 E2D and the installation of the JPI 930 primary engine monitor 2214Y is back in the air!
Flying with the new engine was remarkable, smooth, quiet and a lot more power, this was really a different ride. More importantly, the JPI 930 engine monitor gave me so much information at first I was overloaded. The JPI engine monitor gave me exact real time information on Fuel Flow, CHT, EGT, manifold pressure, volts, amps , fuel pressure, time to empty, gallons remaining, truly I did not know how I have been flying without one.
The next step is to really master the JPI 930 and fly this airplane!
Yes! I bought an airplane! This program has some initial numbers and breaks down the monthly expenses. Owning an airplane can be affordable... but the upgrades.... That is what will get me. Watch this program to find out what ownership costs.
Have you always wanted to learn how to fly but now you are over 50? Get out there and start and learn! There are so many people in there 50's and 60's who are just starting to fly so what are you waiting for?

New engine monitor = information overload!!!!! I drove my shop nuts the first couple weeks I had mine. Now that I am starting to feel more comfortable with it I see that its an amazing tool. You are going to love it. Glad to see you are back in the plane.

Is there an issue with the VSI ?

Yeah it’s 50 years old and when it’s at rest it reads -50 feet it’s just slightly down and when the engine was being tested on the ground the door was open and all the air was blowing back-and-forth next to the static port which made it go crazy. Thanks for watching!

@@Over50andLearningToFly 2400 on takeoff ? Did you mean 2700 ? the CHT temp of 435* on climb seem very high. Not sure about the OAT that day. I had similar issues with my Cardinal and baffling was the answer. Also, use normalize mode to level out all the bars. Any anomalies will be easier to see.

@@Bigpeat190 hi - yes on the ground the engine is only going to generate 2400 as far as takeoff power and the CHT’s at 453 we’re pretty high but not critical I wouldn’t want it to get any higher than that …. And the cruise power setting is 2580 not 2850…. There’s quite a lot to manage in the engine monitor and I’m taking the week off this week actually and flying up to Maine and going to figure this thing out. Thanks for watching!

@@Over50andLearningToFly I had the EDM830 in my 177FG. I loved it so much I put it in my Bonanza ! It’s part of my continued scan. You can dial in the K factor for fuel flow and get it within 0.10 / gal. Glad you’re back in the air !

@@Bigpeat190 the engine will run about 50°F hotter during break-in than it would during normal operation. Reason being that the cylinders have just been freshly honed and still need to mate with the pistons. It's a good indicator to look for when trying to see when your break-in is complete: the CHTs will drop significantly.
