Vessel goes to a place where he holds his memories and emotions, and channels them through his voice! You don't just hear his voice, you FEEL what he's feeling ❤❤
It's amazing that he allows himself to be that vulnerable. To be moved by the song and the other artists performance. That's fantastic! I love it! That's art.

The female singer is Lynsey Ward, she fronts her own band EXPLORING BIRDSONG...pleeeeease check them out!!!! As for Vessel, there's NO end to the emotion he puts into every performance. He was crying his eyes out before he even started Blood Sport at Wembley 🥺 I've never experienced anything like it! His vulnerability shines 🥰
@joyjoyz778 awwwh I know. I love Espera ❤️ I live for the videos they share of their warmups. I'm hoping they record something of theirvown too. I just feel that her own work warrants its own mention, I saw them live back in July, and they're SO good 🥰
it is confirmed that it is Lynsey? I have always thought it was, given Exploring Birdsong used to always tour with Sleep token, but at that time it could of been someone else. edit: answered my own question, all three members of espera are on stage just not one and they have always stood in the same order, so its easy to figure out. it is Lynsey.
He actually cries a lot when he performs, especially in some of those softer songs. Blood Sport live is perhaps the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard, and I would give my left leg to see them live for moments like this.
It really supports what you're saying when you notice how the crowd is singing along at the beginning but listening in almost perfect silence by the end. Emotionally entranced by such powerful vulnerability. Those are the live music experiences we live for.
This is why I fell in love with ST late 2019, the best way to describe his vocals: He sounded like he was on the verge of breaking down/ crying. I needed this so much in my life at that time.
He is definitely crying. I absolutely love that he allows this emotional release in his music for his fans. Some try to hold it back, but I think it adds something so incredibly special to it.
Art is integral to humanity as a species. We've been making art since before we were human. Connecting to art on an emotional level is something that nearly all of us do, and that's beautiful. But our society has become so jaded that showing outward signs of that connection has become taboo, something to joke and jeer at. I honestly love performers who can be so emotionally naked. Vessel is absolutely one. Pau from The Warning. Demi Lovato. Adele. Johnny Hawkins. David Draiman. I could go on. The music I go back to over and over is the stuff that the artists are most connected to because it shows in the performance.
The vesselettes in my opinion are a key part of the bands success ( and not given enough credit) they blend in and out bringing depth to Vessel in the front, also yes the live performances are a deeply emotional experience.
they hate being called the vesselattes, this comes from an interview with their make up gal, Shevy. they are a trio of backup vocalists called Espera, who have done work with several different bands.
dude the original hallelujah song already makes me fucking cry, this song itself is literally one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL songs EVER written and to see my #1 favorite group playing this song had me breaking down. 😭
I love Sleep Token, their studio works are some of my favorite music I've heard and I always come back to them. But this. This stripped back setting is, to my eyes and ears, where Sleep Token and Vessel TRULY shine. Worship.
I've been lucky enough to see them twice, Vessel cried during Ascensionism the first show and Euclid during the second. It adds layers to the performance for sure. To have someone that emotional invested in their music is beautiful.
It seems like Vessel’s singing style uses the “sob” voice - like to hit that deep, thick, vulnerable tone, he needs to be on the edge of crying constantly. And the content of his lyrics and compositions is so emotional, it seems that it doesn’t take much for him to give into those emotions. I know to sing those lyrics, in that tone, is tremendously challenging for me emotionally, I can’t even comprehend how it must feel for him.
He’s the most vocally emotional singer I’ve ever listened to. I feel like I’m at church when I listen to him. When I show him to other people they say that he’s alright but I’m just like ARE YOU INSANE!!!! He’s got the voice of the highest angel
Hearing Vessel sing live with ST last September was genuinely life-changing for me as an aspiring performer. He did this same thing during a couple of the songs during that concert, too, and I was full out crying with him. Everything feels so raw and full of genuine emotion. I can’t help tearing up hearing him in this performance, too. I strive to be able to deliver that level of authenticity in my own performances. Wow.
It really makes it mean so much when I can see the singer really into their music, breaths at the end, the whimper, the crying, and all the emotional things you do physically as well when you get in that mode, I really REALLY enjoy that!
Vessel voice and singing style feels authentic and personal. It doesn't feel dressed up or flashy. There's no showboating or ego. Consider the song "Are You Really OK". Vessel's voice and delivery feels sincere and intimate, as if he's genuinely asking himself... me... you... a loved one, are you really OK.
I agree with the previous post-er. Are You Really OK is probably one of my favorite songs ever. We accept pat answers from people without really caring- are you REALLY OK?
For a long time, I was addicted to listening to the song of Sleep Token, but for 2 months I've been addicted to listening to their live performances. Vessel's voice is truly the most beautiful voice I have ever heard
His voice is something else - he will always be number one for me. His vocals - his musicality- the emotion - everything. I’m glad I came across his music when I did.
In a way, I understand why Vessel would cry during a performance like this. As an author, I know how important it is to be emotionally attached to your work. Whenever I write something, I am connected to every character, every location in the story, etc. I cry whenever I kill off a character because I feel the pain my characters feel. Seeing a character who was born in my mind and brought to life by my writing die is like losing a family member. It doesn't matter to me if they're a good guy or a bad guy. They're still people who are connected to me. I also understand why that's a good thing; it makes it real for the reader, too. Writing and performing a song is practically the same thing. By pouring your emotions and heart into a song you've written, you make it something that the listener can not only hear but also feel. That's why I love listening to Sleep Token: I can feel the emotion they put into it. I hope they keep putting out the quality they did with Take Me Back To Eden. It was one of the best albums I listened to in 2023.
One of the reasons I fell in love with my favorite band Dir en Grey is because the vocalist Kyo doesn't hold his emotions back while performing. He's cried countless times, and it makes you feel the full weight of his singing, and it pulls you in so much more. I respect Vessel for allowing himself to be vulnerable on stage. I knownthat is so tough. As a band, they haven't really clicked for me, yet, but I'll keep trying to see if I'll get into them.

@@UndyingRein metal. I was in college trying to find Japanese bands to get better at Japanese and audiogalaxy recommended them. Fell in love at first note.
I'm really glad you found this and had this revelation. Honestly, watching your videos analyzing his voice drove me a little nuts because of how much you suggest that he overthinks and overplans everything. The voice can do remarkable things when you let go of how the voice "should" work and be authentic to yourself and your material. People need to spend less time trying to get it "right" and more time trying to make it REAL. Your summoning cover is good but there is so much of you trying to do stuff with your voice instead of just... getting in the song and delivering the vocal. With all the love and respect in the world!
I agree 100%, this is why I have such a hard time enjoying ST covers, I can feel the singers trying hard at delivering a perfect vocal and I truly feel like Vessel's singing is the opposite of that, it achieves a ridiculous amount of beauty and prowess through emotion and abandon.
Got to see them 4 times in 2023 (very lucky me), including one headline show and every experience was very unique. I have not heard enough yet, because it is even more intense than the studio recordings.
One of the reasons I like ST so much is that I've always thought that there's so much storytelling going on in their overall composition, but especially the dynamics. Fall for Me from TPWBYT is my favorite example of that. It's one of their most emotional songs in my opinion, and it's entirely acapella and vocoder, but there is just so. much. emotion. in it. The arrangement could have easily been something akin to Ascencionism (which is another song I can rant about its genius), but their choice to leave it so bare bones paired with the painful vocal performance just absolutely screams 'vulnerability', and the fact that you can feel that through a studio recording is mind-blowing. Stuff like this can only be done by someone who feels music deeply and cares about the message behind every note and every lyric, and the video you just showed is another perfect example of that. Much, much respect for Vessel and his work with ST.
I criee all along, watching this video. Vessel's vouce is absolutely breathtaking, powerful and yet so intricate and delicate. He has some ethereal talent, and your reactions summed up my thoughts perfectly. I'll never stop being amazed by that man and how he sings...
I will forever be livid at myself for not going to that acoustic gig but it ened up being around the time I lost my first full time job. That performance of Hallelujah is hauntingly beautiful.
So moving. I’ve always worked hard on songs to get past the raw, authentic emotions in order to perform without getting overwhelmed. I still feel it but have built up a … was going to say filter but it’s more like a limiter to be sure I’d go only so far but never beyond that, never, umm messy. Been seriously rethinking that for a while. Not easy to let go though. Thanks Chris for always encouraging us to go beyond comfortable to authenticity to connect with both the art and the audience and for providing these examples so we can experience it for ourselves.
Yes Chris, I cried immediately, the moment he came back, so yes I agree! I also agree with your statement at the end of this vid. But for me there is difference in sharing the emotion, like Vessel did, which I can handle and 'taking' (externalize and occupy) the emotional space from the audience. The way Vessel the gift (as you mentioned in one of you vid's) to the audience remained intact, but occupying the emotional space (which some singers do) is the opposite. Thank you for sharing this!
Anybody who have not cried to Vessel's voice, throw the first stone ! He is the most emotional and intense singer! And he makes you feel that emotions through his voice. What a talented guy !!!! Worship
Every time I see someone sharing their fresh experiences with ST, I always go back to that first interview when he said, "Soon, you will all be followers"
I have never seen a musical artist express so much vulnerability in multiple performances. I believe it is what hooked me. I heard The Summoning and wondered if he could pull it off live. He did that and more. He is truly, deeply passionate about the music and the importance of giving us his all each time. You can’t help but be drawn in. And I could write essays on the very deliberate choices he makes musically, from hitting discordant notes to signal something going wrong (Atlantic), to the ‘being in a chokehold’-like ending to Chokehold, and the splitting if his voice in Distraction (into fractions). This stuff is tucked throughout every song and performance. Ugh…. He’s a genius and I think we won’t know truly how much of one for some time to come.
Dude, I’ve written songs that I still can’t perform all the way through without breaking down into tears. If it’s not real it’s not worth singing about. 😢
I recommend listening/watching the entire Room Below show. It's just... a wonderful experience. He's such a vulnerable performer and I appreciate it so much.
So fun to run into your video as I stumbled upon this version of Hallelujah (my fav BTW) not long ago and have been listening to it on repeat. The emotion his voice evokes is INCREDIBLE! HAUNTING! Love that you feel this too.
When I saw them live in a small venue in Cardiff, Wales in late 2021, I had to keep getting angles to see if he was miming, I was into the band for some time before that, but never saw live footage. It altered my brain to hear the emotions of songs like Sugar and Mine played live, so much so I couldnt believe it was real. And it really made me fully fall in love with the band.
Oh, buddy- I might be too late for you to see this, but this isn't the first time. Far from it. He cries at the end of the original studio version of Blood Sport, during his recorded speech while playing Drag Me Under and also cried while closing with The Offering at the show I went to at Louder Than Life. This isn't just music to him and the band. This is life. This is a second chance. "I am nothing without this music. I am nothing without this mask."- Vessel.
He’s so emotionally connected to what he sings and you can tell. It translates in his performances both live and on the albums. He is passionate, he pours his emotions into the words he writes, and I think it’s why the crowd similarly connects to the songs. I love Atlantic but hearing it live had me in tears twice.
Big fan! Saw them live twice and those were the best concerts of my life. And i've seen a lot of bands from Architects to who knowswhat. Sleep token is something else! Since the last show i've fallen in love with their tour support a band called Health!
As a Christian I have NEVER felt a vocalist the way I feel Vessel. I dodged the thumbnail for Alkaline for a couple of weeks because I'm cautious about what I listen to. I gave in. Since that song, through that album, the album and before he has had my heart. Of course I went down the rabbit hole of WHO and was not disappointed. If you're seeing this Vessel... I just want to hug you brother. No words needed man. I just love you dude ❤🖤🖤🖤♥️
@@JesameSandalamoabsolutely not, just because of the tone of the music doesn’t mean it’s satanic in any way. I highly suggest reading the lyrics as a poem and/or a rant to whoever is the subject of the song. Reading them that way makes it some of the best songs to sing along to or just to experience the emotion of the poem makes them the best of both at the same time and they’re not even in that format, it’s also arranged to have a beautiful melody or captivating subconscious emotions AT THE SAME TIME. The darker music tone bolsters the weight of the words spoken to push that emotion even further beyond only an inner monologue but unleashing the emotions instead in a way the medium they’re copying could never achieve in it’s own form. Combining something into a perfect and unique hybrid for EVERY SINGLE SONG isn’t something fueled by any evil intentions, it’s a god given gift for everyone involved in the making of the song. And this is coming from a UNFATHOMABLY high atheist at 3 in the morning
If anything, Vessel's interconnectedness with his emotions and his music, to me, just gives his harsh vocals a feeling of genuine authenticity instead of just being a vocalization style. And it's not very often that Vessel even uses harsh vocals (especially live), so every time he does it that also just adds to the authenticity. The ending of Take Me Back To Eden (the song) just took on a whole new vibe.
I think I really noticed how much emotion he packs into his performances on the studio version of Ascensionism, at the end when he takes that breath then just absolutely lets it out. I remember hearing that for the first time, stopping going back and just remarking to myself with my wife sitting there "Damn Vessel, who hurt you?" There was something so genuine in that scream that it still gives me chills to think about it. I'd love to see them live but my check book laughed at me
This is beautiful, Vessel is just something else, just pure emotion 🥹 Please also react to Bloodsport from The Room Below, his vocals are absolutely stunning.
🙏I have liked Sleep Token for a year like the new songs but after watching vessel’s do this live it really changes you I went back listening to all Sleep Token songs now love them all it’s all I have listened to for couple weeks now older songs are amazing as well 😅❤
Vessel does cry nearly every show. I saw them twice last year and he did cry. He also did push ups and sit ups on stage. I cried during the whole 1st one I went to and screamed during 2nd show. I’m not religious, but their concerts are likely the closest thing to a religious experience I’ve ever had. If you can, you HAVE to see them live.
as someone who recently DIDNT miss my local Sleep Token show, i can confirm and attest that Vessel does in fact put this kind of emotion, vulnerability and talent into each show. ...its truly incredible.
He's a very emotional performer, and has great passion for his art. It comes across not only in his live performances (I was at Wembley and hearing his occasionall sobs in songs where his voice kept failing him was fucking heartbreaking), but you also hear it in studio recordings.
Watching people have spiritual experiences reviewing Sleep Token's music has become my new favorite pastime. Vessel is such an amazing singer and it's those little things that make him so otherworldly to me, the small sounds, his delivery, the abandon, the way he breathes, hell, even the silences. I truly recommend you watch the entire From The Room Below show, there's a few compilations on YT. I never in my life felt such vulnerability from a singer or such a deep emotional connection with a man just singing with a guitar and a piano with wither a mask or his back to the crowd.
This is genuinely an incredible performance. I have never fully understood the Sleep Token hype and I honestly didn't like the album very much (all love to anyone who did) however this moment, there's so much raw emotional intensity and love of music here. It should honestly lift anyone to want to create, to be a part of music, to feel it completely. Remarkable.
This is such a nod to Buckley. Especially since watching some Buckley docs and hearing lots of vessel before he was vessel. They seem akin in some sense. Very eclectic guys
You can tell some songs are super deep and personal, take a listen to Atlantic by ST, it's pretty haunting, and he sings it with such passion on record and even more so live

Vessel is emotionally incredibly deep, and he portrays it magnificently in his performances. He can bring grown men to tears.
She's also still part of the choir for Sleep token, she is one of the Espera
@joyjoyz778 awwwh I know. I love Espera ❤️ I live for the videos they share of their warmups. I'm hoping they record something of theirvown too. I just feel that her own work warrants its own mention, I saw them live back in July, and they're SO good 🥰
it is confirmed that it is Lynsey? I have always thought it was, given Exploring Birdsong used to always tour with Sleep token, but at that time it could of been someone else.
edit: answered my own question, all three members of espera are on stage just not one and they have always stood in the same order, so its easy to figure out. it is Lynsey.
yooo. thanks for that reference!
OMG they remade Diamond Eyes and I’m obsessed 😍
He actually cries a lot when he performs, especially in some of those softer songs. Blood Sport live is perhaps the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard, and I would give my left leg to see them live for moments like this.
If you gave your left leg they'd have to play missing limbs
@@ataruparagon YOU FUCKING GET IT
Vessel is a vocal master. Not just by how well he sings, but also by how well his emotions show in his vocal performances
It really supports what you're saying when you notice how the crowd is singing along at the beginning but listening in almost perfect silence by the end. Emotionally entranced by such powerful vulnerability. Those are the live music experiences we live for.
Seeing Sleep Token live did something to me. They are something wild. It hits a primal , emotional space in my chest. Worship.
same
I wish there was a professional recording of this. It's absolutely breathtaking.
Espera. If you're giving them credit, you may want to use their actual name.
they hate being called the vesselattes, this comes from an interview with their make up gal, Shevy. they are a trio of backup vocalists called Espera, who have done work with several different bands.
Glad it's just your opinion.
@@weebsarecringe2102why do you hate having fun and letting people have their own opinions?
@@Jannesmachtanderes why do you assume things and denounce my own opinion? Your double standards smell bad
dude the original hallelujah song already makes me fucking cry, this song itself is literally one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL songs EVER written and to see my #1 favorite group playing this song had me breaking down.
Are you really okay, fucked me up the first time I heard it. It feels like he's personally talking to you when he says it.
The vulnerability is so compelling, especially since I grew up in an “anything you say can be used against you” kind of family.
His voice is something else - he will always be number one for me. His vocals - his musicality- the emotion - everything. I’m glad I came across his music when I did.
To me, the crying just makes it even more beautiful and soulful. I love Vessel for his soul felt vocals. 🥰🥰🥰
Omg a DIR EN GREY FAN! HELLO!
I swear sleep Token is British dir en grey and Vore is so dir en grey coded. I've been a dir en grey fan for over 20 years
@@chromesthesia I've been a fan since 2007. Found them in middle school while searching for "Japanese Screamo" lol. I stumbled upon The Final and fell in love. I wish I had found them sooner, and I wish I could listen to them for the first time again. The deep dive through their live performances is what solidified my love for them. Kyo is the reason I started writing, and Kaoru, Die, and Toshiya are the reasons I learned guitar and bass. Now I just need to get good at drums lol.
@@UndyingRein metal. I was in college trying to find Japanese bands to get better at Japanese and audiogalaxy recommended them. Fell in love at first note.
I had tears in my eyes, indeed, watching this. Thanks for sharing this and your thoughts, Chris.
I hear ya totally!! I’m learning a ton just going on the journey!
I agree 100%, this is why I have such a hard time enjoying ST covers, I can feel the singers trying hard at delivering a perfect vocal and I truly feel like Vessel's singing is the opposite of that, it achieves a ridiculous amount of beauty and prowess through emotion and abandon.
I went to see Sleep Token in LA. Vessel cried while singing in the set. He is amazing. The backing vocals were amazing. It was an experience. Worship!
Much, much respect for Vessel and his work with ST.
this was magnificent and the way vessel sings with his emotions…. I would have been sobbing with him.
I criee all along, watching this video. Vessel's vouce is absolutely breathtaking, powerful and yet so intricate and delicate. He has some ethereal talent, and your reactions summed up my thoughts perfectly. I'll never stop being amazed by that man and how he sings...
He has addressed crying during songs and performances. Having heard it live it adds something special and it is felt in person.
I will forever be livid at myself for not going to that acoustic gig but it ened up being around the time I lost my first full time job. That performance of Hallelujah is hauntingly beautiful.
I heard this version of his voice last night in NYC he gets so emotional it’s so beautiful
Worship
Thank you, Chris, for bringing our attention to this human art beauty!
Every time I see someone sharing their fresh experiences with ST, I always go back to that first interview when he said, "Soon, you will all be followers"
you need to do more live reviews because vessel live is everything the emotions he goes through and makes the crowd feel is unfathomable
Another Vessel video coming on Friday this week! :)
@@chrisliepe cant wait ! i love watching peoples reactions to how amazingly talented he is!
Glad to hear they did buckley's version. RIP king
The man is a channel, that's why he sounds over worldly ❤
It was hauntingly amazing 👏
This is one of the best things in music for sure
The moment around 5:26 touches my soul. When they both do that little bump it adds SO MUCH. Incredible incredible incredible.
I was at Louder than Life as well and even that shortened set I was emotionally wrung out I am 56 and I have NEVER had a band effect me in such ways.
I would give ANYTHING for The Room Below recording of Hallelujah 😫
During this song Vessel was worshiping. He felt it and lifted it up
Absolutely wow. Thank you so much.
He’s so emotionally connected to what he sings and you can tell. It translates in his performances both live and on the albums. He is passionate, he pours his emotions into the words he writes, and I think it’s why the crowd similarly connects to the songs. I love Atlantic but hearing it live had me in tears twice.
Going to see them in May in Dallas. Excited!
I am so jealous! I am holding out hope that I can find some tix being resold on ticketmaster eventually.
I feel the exact same way... 100% you are not alone in understanding the depths of his voice and ability to do EXACTLY what you sid
Big fan! Saw them live twice and those were the best concerts of my life. And i've seen a lot of bands from Architects to who knowswhat. Sleep token is something else!
Since the last show i've fallen in love with their tour support a band called Health!
I honestly wanted to burst out crying just listening to vessel sing and cry.. I've never seen sleep token live but I really want to.
I've watched this performance so many times already and it still brings me to tears every time. One of my all-time favorite videos.
I also sub to er' body covering Sleep Token. Subbed, liked, commented!! Love from Kentucky brother
Do you think it’s satanic
What does being a Christian have to do with anything?
@@JesameSandalamo absolutely not bub. If I did this couldn't be my favorite band. The most I could ever love a band and singer.
People discovering Vessel not being afraid to let out his emotions while singing will forever be my favorite genre of video
It’s this
Watching you react and explain the chills at the exact same time as I was getting them. So crazy
I'd love to see them live but my check book laughed at me
The emotional content live I never fully got until missing limbs live when I heard that it crushed me in a good way and sold me on this guy
Chris, you should check Sleep Token doing a cover of Outkast's Hey Ya.
Vessel is definitely something else.
He did that live on this show with his little guitar
It adds to the whole experience...to.know how touched and moved he is singing this incredible song xxx
This is beautiful, Vessel is just something else, just pure emotion 🥹 Please also react to Bloodsport from The Room Below, his vocals are absolutely stunning.
🙏I have liked Sleep Token for a year like the new songs but after watching vessel’s do this live it really changes you I went back listening to all Sleep Token songs now love them all it’s all I have listened to for couple weeks now older songs are amazing as well 😅❤
The female vocalist is just stunning. Absolutely world class. No wonder he wept.
PS I’d sell my soul to have been at this live concert, or to have them do this cover again.
as someone who recently DIDNT miss my local Sleep Token show, i can confirm and attest that Vessel does in fact put this kind of emotion, vulnerability and talent into each show. ...its truly incredible.
I’m glad you watched this
So beautiful!
He's a very emotional performer, and has great passion for his art. It comes across not only in his live performances (I was at Wembley and hearing his occasionall sobs in songs where his voice kept failing him was fucking heartbreaking), but you also hear it in studio recordings.
If i were in the public i would have broke in two, such an amazing performance.
You gotta check out fall for me live.. you'll see vessel at his most vulnerable and it's truly a beautiful experience
Vessel is a Jeff Buckley acolyte
It’s very jeff Buckley, this version! Thanks for shouting it out I’d never have seen it!
Vessel is probably a Jeff Buckley acolyte. I imagine Jeff Buckley 's high range flew across the ether into his throat
I saw this for the first time last month, and it's amazing. Background vocalist does great too
You can tell some songs are super deep and personal, take a listen to Atlantic by ST, it's pretty haunting, and he sings it with such passion on record and even more so live
Atlantic is so emotional for sure
It breaks me when he cries live. It’s so powerful.
It is absolutely beautiful ❤
Everything about Vessel is perfection 😍
I absolutely LOVE this band...so diverse and influential, in todays age...so real, and DEF one to watch and keep up with...
