      @@jamiemagdeleyns9152 if you do the same mods to a land rover it will again dumpster it off road. I've done a bit of reading and the old tdi engines are bulletproof. As for the old rover v8, the main reason behind blown head gaskets is overheating, which means that a thermostat opening at lower temperature and a gauge that tells you exactly what temp you have will mean you probably won't have that issue until you do around 100k miles. I've been looking at old discovery models in particular and i rarely find ones with under 200k miles. My discovery is also about to reach that point, and it was sat rotting in a field for 10 years.

      The wider tires are an advantage. Larger the contact patch the better. 315s are a few inches wider than the other competitors which are typically 245-275.
      Also not sure how they went about tire selection. Some vehicles didn’t have the same tire they came with from the factory on top of most of them being street tires. Tire selection and size has more of an effect on outcomes than anything.

      On older cars without Traction control and electronics that can fail, a rear and front diff lock would make up for that…
      It would have been a fair comparison if diff locks were applied on all cars that can do so and that haven’t got traction controll… specially on the 2007 land cruiser Prado it would have made a massive difference, as you have to adjust the vehicle situation for different terrains…
      It’s no coincidence that most people going off-roading use old landcruisers, Hiluxes etc…

      @@jimi272 Aftermarket lockers are expensive and sometimes unreliable. Nothing fair about comparing an offroad modified car to a stock one.

    • @jimi272
      @jimi272 2 роки тому

      @@CptAngelKGaming I disagree. If you want to do that, a fair comparison, you shouldn’t compare vehicles from different years/decades… comparing all new , let’s say produced after 2015, cars, and similar things with cars from the mid 2000s and mid 90s. That would be a fair comparison. And no, there are indeed landcruisers from that era that had diff lockers installed already. I mean they also put in the low range on the models that had it, a feature that is a must have for off-roading too…

    Let me see, you folks are conducting an off road, Hill climbing test with supposed SUV's and/or crossovers with standard highway/radial tires? Now that was genius! Essentially, you've turned all those 4 wheel drive vehicles into overblown station wagons in offroad conditions. Thank God the ground had not been rain-soaked! Now that would have been a real comedy show guys! Highway radials in hilly off-road conditions...wow, who could possibly have predicted your results!!?? 🤣👍...Now I have not even mentioned proper engineered spatial clearance between tires, chassis and the ground. Most of the vehicles in your test are SUV's for advertising purposes only. But again, place highway radials on real SUV's and you will still end up with a good comedy show. Thanks for the laughs guys!

    This was enraging to watch. As a proud GX460 owner I'm glad the Prado and it's bigger brother LC 200 made up that little patch of dirt with ease no thanks to the drivers constantly stopping mid obstacle or right before it. I've taken much steeper obstacles with loose rocks no less in the GX and it would just eat it whole and ask for more, but you never stop or mash the throttle, the drivers were terrible.
    And no suprise all the street suvs barely made it.

    • @johndoe53831
      @johndoe53831 2 роки тому +3

      Bro, but they made it anyway. Tiguan doesnt have even half of your GX's engine capacity, no fancy offroad stuff, cost like 1/3 of GX and the final result is the same xd So sorry mate, you can cheer yourself up but as we can see these small street suvs will be better all purpose vehicles than Land Cruisers or G classes for men with 'short problem'.

    Many 4WDs can be drastically improved offroad by simply adding lockers and/or a winch. Many AWDs don't have the option of adding lockers, and no winchmounts may be available.
    Lunchbox lockers for something like a Jeep TJ are just a few hundred $$ per axle diff.
    4Low also allows more of the engine's torque to get to the axles.
    The best option seems to be a Selectrac Wrangler Rubicon...AWD for snowy roads, and 4Low w/lockers and articulating solid axles for offroad.
    These TCS AWDs that are covered in plastic just seem like a bad idea for technical offroading. 'Seems you could easily destroy your brakes, tires, trans, bumpers, etc.
    I have skids, AT tires, and a winch for my 2016 AWD Crosstrek. I don't expect it to be a decent offroader until rockers and a rear locker are installed. Still, I don't know that my center diff will always clamp well enough to take full advantage of the rear locker, and steel bumpers are needed to avoid crunch damage.

    The 2019 Pajero Sport needed better tires, if it had that, it would have breezed through this challenge easier than it did. Also, you should have had a 2003-2006 Gen 3 Pajero/Montero with Super-Select 2. Its traction control system would have easily walked through this.
