Yep, but who leaves a bike standard these days. I have an SM and love it, I reckon it handles better with the MX style suspension with dirt rims on it and it only takes like 1/2 hours to change the wheels.

I just sold my DRZ sm a few months ago and got a Ducati 821 hypermotard....but I'm already missing that old workhorse! Once I got that bike set up and dialed in I never had to do anything except change the oil. I rode the piss out of it for 20,000 miles. I even won a Nor Cal supermoto race and podiumed in 3 AFM roadraces with it...sometimes I'd commute to work on it the morning after racing it...lol
Would be a cool comparison to put a slightly more modified DRZ against the YZ. I have a 434, cams, and FCR in mine and makes 45.5hp to the wheel. May get a slight bump in lap times. All in all, probably cheaper than a race bike build. Also, I run the Conti Attack SM EVO on mine, but been itching to try the q3+ since they arew a bit cheaper and my sportbike buddies love em!
I know this is a year late. But i am in the same tire situation. I have used Conti attack sm’s for a while. Not really ”dared” to switch to another tire if i would ve disappointed. How would you compare the contis to the q3+? IF you made the switch. Thanks.
a full comparison of the supermoto range would be wicked! cant find a video of that any where, at least a decent one like i feel you guys would do. thanks for the comparison.
I want to see the test done with a DRZ that has a big bore, cams, suspension, slipper clutch and MOTO master front brake set up next! Will be interesting too see how much closer it can come while still maintaining that lower maintenance.
sold my drz400sm to get more into dirt, bought a ktm 350 exc-f. miss the drz believe it or not. sure the excf is the "better" bike performance wise, but just something about the dizzer i love. call it character. next bike will be the sm again with a set of dirt wheels. always concerned about racking up miles on the excf and tired of that
I think it’s like every other category of bike, people just like to complain and nitpick because they read magazines and have ridiculous expectations. Just like any other bike in any other category, the truth is 99% of the riders out there have more bike then talent. You take this guy races and put them up against 99% of the riders out there and on a DRZ he will blow them away on a full blown race bike. The DRC is a pretty good all-around bike. It’s not the greatest it’s not the fastest, but it’s more than capable and most people will be better putting that extra money into gas and practicing, because it’s far more Kibodeaux than most writers. Or you spend tons of money upgrading everything as much as I could doing all the performance mods and that’s fun but it gives you potential but unless you’re a serious racer putting in tons of hours you’re not gonna have the skills to outride a DRZ 400 SM anyway so it’s really not gonna make it much faster, if you’re drag racing and doing long straightaways then yeah the mods help but on a twisty Turny track the bike is 5% of the equation the other 95% is your skill And I’m not bagging other people I’m the same way, you put me out there on a race bike and this guy on a DRZ and he’ll run circles around me but a lot of people have this attitude like Bikes like the DRC just suck and are useless but the truth is the bike is much faster than 99% of the riders who have them anyway and the upgrades aren’t gonna give them much faster lap times
A drz is not heavy lol i have a dr750 that weights 200kg/450lbs and that bike is over 3 times my weight. It even outruns my buddies 300 2stroke but its exhausting to ride fast 😂
I already lol when ppl cry about the weight of a vehicle. You’re not lifting it. Learn to use your friction zone and the weight won’t matter. You sound afraid to drop it.
Ok , so I had an fcr installed on my drz 400 s and I don't think its made a huge difference . What should I be looking for ? It seems to pull harder but not crazy noticeable. Makes a nice chirping noise when pulling. My fuel consumption hasn't changed at all. Any pointers? Bike is running standard cams with big bore E header
If I'm really hardnon the engine braking my pops and crackles but under normal riding it's fine. From what I've read if you have backfires just slowing down normally you have problems.
sorry, I'm horrible at answering comments. As long as you don't do the "leg dangle" no need to worry about snapping it. Keep it close to the bike and foot forward and all is good!
That will work. In your situation I'd simply buy some 18/21 "90/10" tires, but it on the stock bike and go to town. Basically ride supermoto, trails, street, whatever. Basically a awesome modern day scrambler. Then if you find yourself doing sm trackdays a bunch then spring for the 17's set.
had the same experience on my DRZ-SM at sonoma kart track sumo day. was fun but would get worked by a proper 450SM. just a little down on power, little too much weight. the bike was slow and heavy too. ; )
I'm just looking to buy a bike & the difference I see is the YZ is gonna require a lot more attention if I understood correctly? For the average dummy like me, changing oil & doing valve checks isn't my strong point. I think how road friendly & maint free it is is more attractive. If I wanted, "Fast"... I'd want the YZ. We like to compare but reliable & low maint is what most people want. Thanks for the videos, now I know you guys. peace
Ahh, yes.... both those are high up on my list although the DRZ's are plentiful which might be a good thing at my current stage. Thanks for taking the time, I do appreciate it. peace
@NoNoNoNii how does the 701 Husky compare? That will probably be my next bike. I ride a motorcycle full time so if it's not setup to be street legal, I don't want it. I feel like it's cheating to haul a bike to the track. If you didn't ride it to the track, it doesn't count lol. I know the 701 is heavy, so there's that.

What a stupid video. Why would you compare an enduro to a race bike? The comparable bike is a Rmz450. At least compare 2 bikes that are in the same class.
To answer one of the most common question that riders have for me: how does a drz compare to a race bike! Just because you’re not interested does not make it stupid right?
Hit the like button for the DRZ. Show some love!
The drz did well considering the horse power difference and the drz was made as a reliable trail tractor not a race bike.
sm is the detuned street version and has 23% less power than the Enduro drz.
Yep, but who leaves a bike standard these days. I have an SM and love it, I reckon it handles better with the MX style suspension with dirt rims on it and it only takes like 1/2 hours to change the wheels.

Now do 2 stroke vs 4 stroke with a 2 stroke rider and a 4 stroke rider putting down laps with each bike. That would be interesting.
EreksonJ great idea, on it! I have the perfect rider for it too
