    The RS6 Avant always reminds me of the Daniel Graig film Layer Cake, That great scene when he leaves his house with RS6 flying up the road.

    Man, I remember when a kids father at my school had one of these brand new back in the day, I just couldn't believe how amazing it was.

    Loved this car, monstrous engine which sounded fantastic. Torque was monstrous but the RS4 I traded it in for had more finesse.

    Best thing about Audi...they still make 5 cylinder engines, the TT is to die for.

    Notoriously unreliable biturbo family wagon. Absolutely love it.

    Still to this day that is the only car i ever need and want in my life. Just a couple of little tweaks - 6 speed manual instead of the auto and Eibach springs + Koni Shocks instead of the DRC setup. This then becomes the perfect undercover rocket. Slightly bigger injectors + ECU remap and baam - 600HP and 800NM in a family estate that flys under the radar of everybody.

    It's the position of the engine thats causing his dislike. It's a perfect car.

    How can you distinguish a RS6 from a RS6 plus? Are there any other differences, other than the increased power?

      some black trim instead of aluminium. around the grille. and black tailpipes instead of chrome.

    I have the most base model A6 you can get in the US without being FWD... the only things that are similar between this RS wagon is the squishy brake pedal and meh steering. Besides that, the RS is practically not even the similar. Wish I could afford/ maintain an RS

      IAMJAKETRIMBLE You’re absolutely right. Nothing alike. You have to drive one to really see what this car is.
      Not taking anything away from a C5 A6 Avant, they are GREAT cars. Hell, ANY Avant. No one does wagons quite like Audi.

    I find the carfection videos good but they would be amazing if you could just show some shots with epic engine and exhaust sounds. The narrative is nonstop. Just stop talking for a minute and let us enjoy what it is about. Then Carfection would really be reaching its full potential!

    Man, it feels like you compare it with all the new cars. Of course the gearbox i slow and all that. Remember what Clarkson said when he drove it and compared it with the e55 AMG and M5, he thought "it was one of the best cars on the road today".

    This video does not do this car justice really. He barely pushes the car here. Its an estate car with 444bhp that came out in 2002. In 2002 alot of super cars had less power.
    The power delivery on full throttle is absolutly brutal. Yes the handling isnt amazing , its a 2 ton estate car from 15 yrs ago. However if you get some decent coilovers and a good setup it can be much improved.
    The brakes when driving hard soon become very hot so a decent pad suitable for the track is better.
    Gearbox is dated now and slow by modern standards but using the paddleshifters on a country road is nicer than full auto.
    The engine a 4.2 bi turbo v8 is an absolute monster that makes the car the great beast that it is. They cost a bomb to run but I love mine and even standard it will still destroy alot of cars out there.

    • @Divine_Serpent_Geh
      @Divine_Serpent_Geh 6 років тому

      James Yes, I test drove one. It was crazy. The previous owner had replaced the faulty DRC and installed coilovers. I thought it would ruin that classic Audi ride, nope. Rode very well, but tough and taught just the way you would want a car like this to ride.
      Yes, the gearbox is slow and being a 2003, is missing some tech, but who cares? This car was not meant to be a tech marvel. This was a pure, raw, and brutal performance car with four doors. It’s loud, rides rough, goes and stops like a scolded cat.
      A unique driving experience. Living in the US, it’s the first Audi RS car we ever got, and that alone makes it special enough in my book.
      By the way, I know maintenance on these can be a bit of trouble since parts are so rare, and practically everything engine related is bespoke to it. I’ve read that timing belt changes are needed every 45k miles or some insanity like that!
      Could you shed some light on this?

      @@Divine_Serpent_Geh I have a question then, if you had the cash to buy a mint C5 RS6 with 450hp, or a mint B7 RS4 with 420hp N/A (in the USA), which would you choose? That's the dilemma I'm thinking about right now. Which one has more tunability? which one has better reliability?

  • @TheEryk03
    @TheEryk03 7 років тому

    Awesome but I prefer lighter more fun to drive RS4 that are so underrated

  • @QuantumS1ngularity
    @QuantumS1ngularity 3 роки тому

    I would take that gen of RS6 every day over any other RS model out there, even over the R8. It such a good car. And once you remove the DRC and swap that lazy ZF gearbox for a proper manual, you pretty much solved all reliability issues. With a slight remap and boost increase it gives well over 500hp and with removed limiter 300kph is just as easy as 200. This engine is soooo good with all these 5 valves per cylinder unlike the later ones that only come with 4. It makes such a good low-rev rumble it can tingle your spine. Love it to death, especially with this unsuspecting look. To an untrained eye it's just an old A6 estate, then you put your foot down in 2nd or 3rd and you are well over the horizon. It was never meant to be track car, it's a long-distance high-speed cruiser and it does that job better than any RS6, even the lastest 2020 model. Small wonder their prices steadily shoots up.

      It’s shit to drive and the maintenance is appalling. I know cause I had one. Suspension, transmisión, brakes, turbos, etc all is shit. I was going to upgrade it with coilovers, better brakes if I could manual swap it, but when I saw how much money was to swap it, I said fuck this POS and bought a B7 RS4.

    • @Divine_Serpent_Geh
      @Divine_Serpent_Geh 6 років тому

      Aftastos K I wouldn’t call it that. But I definitely agree Audi could have cemented the RS brand ALOT more, particularly in the US.
      The should have brought a B6 RS4 and also given us the C6 RS6, the successor to this incredible car.
      Those two cars would have changed things dramatically. Primarily here in The States.

      RealCapo88 No sir, we did not. Crying shame. I think it’s one of Audi’s most iconic performance cars. A wagon with a twin-turbo V10...
      We are praying for the upcoming C8 RS6 to finally make it to our shores.

      Yes, this 450bhp estate is faster than a Bugatti Veyron. It was an astonishing feat of engineering. Did you know it also has a 12 speed gear box and that it had the suspension from an Audi R8 LM?
