    I am by no means an expert at throwing knives but something that I have had good luck with from pocket knives to kitchen knives is to balance any knife on my finger. Pocket and kitchen knives are always heavy towards the handle. However far back down the handle away from the blade it balances out, hold the point end of the blade that far back from the end and throw it.
    Example: If I have a butcher knife and it balances 1.5 inches down the handle from the blade, I hold the point end 1.5 inches from the point then throw it and it will stick more than half the time so long as I don't put a lot of spin on it. If I actually practiced it, my success rate would be higher.
    I have to be careful as I keep my household knives razor sharp.

    Hello Brian! What size is your target and what size board did you use? Is the end grain target behind the new one a better way to go, or not worth the extra work? I'm building one for my daughter. Thank you!

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  3 роки тому

      The end grain target was a total failure. I spent about $50 on lumber and several hours cutting 4x4 blocks and then they shrunk as they dried out. The one I am using is just 3 pieces of 2x6 about 32” long screwed to a frame. The red circle is about the size of a paper plate.

    I disagree on your assessment of not having an edge being unimportant an edge facilitates penetration because it allows the knife to go in easier unless you're dealing with a spike type throwing device then edge will matter My two cents

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  3 роки тому

      Yea, it will stick a little better. But...Having an edge generally makes a knife more expensive and it also makes it easier to hurt yourself when learning.

      @@SurvivalOnPurpose Yes, a diamond sharpener saves me lots. Dull "practice" blades cost less, true, & that saves you a lot,...if you can sharpen half decently better still. Also, probably pretty handy if you're forced to engage in close quarters/hand2hand melee, I'm guessing, ya? Wondering if I can convert a staff sling to throw them...hmm.'

      Too sharp a knife and you are just gonna cause damage to the blade from those impacts. Chips, bent tips and such will occur, I think generally sharpness is useful but I don’t think it needs to be sharp like other knives do
