@@leandromadeireira8840 honestly it was amazing to see the growth of the server by getting there early and also talking to whammy themself. they are such an amazing person!
Ubisoft: "You will own nothing. Now give us that subscription fee." Honestly, done with buying games from bigger companies. Indie and AA seem to be the way at this point. It's such a shame that people that love these games get the brunt of the worst of this. I really hope something breaks soon on this current position in gaming. Thanks for the look into this community, Revo.
I think it's a long, slow fight to get any kind of representation on this. Still, it's a fight worth having. btw when's your next video fam? Love your stuff, would love to see ya back at it.
I have been on this train for a long time, I haven't bought a game from a major developer in years and intend to keep it that way, AA and indie studios are more passion driven when it comes to making they're games, money is just a side thing for them because they care about making a quality game unlike big devs like Ubi. Sony Ubisoft and EA are a plague to the gaming industry!
In mid 2016 I was given a copy of the crew and after a few days of playing it made me think about something personal. My father had passed away a few months prior and driving around the open world in the game made me think about when him and I drove cross country in a moving truck when I was 12. My mother and sisters flew out ahead of us leaving us behind to finish packing before taking the long trip from Fresno California to Baltimore Maryland. I had found the same map we used to plot our road trip not long after he passed away and told myself someday I'll make that drive again. My life was a mess and I knew that I may not ever get the chance to really take that trip so I decided to do it in the crew. Oddly enough while Fresno was on the map but Baltimore wasn't so I recreated the drive as best I could and decided to end it in Washington DC. One night I turned off all the lights, cranked up the sound, sparked a joint, booted up the game and played a mix of the songs that we listen to during the 3 days we spent driving cross country. It was extremely cathartic for me to just drive that night. I took my time and stopped at the towns that we had marked off on the map then did my best to remember what we did during those stops. After a few long hours I felt at peace. I needed that night with the crew and my thoughts. It's sad to see this game get killed off like this, especially because the second one is just a complete downgrade in every aspect imaginable. I hope #stopkillinggames pulls off a hail Mary and brings this game back to life. It doesn't even need to be online. This game may not have been the greatest racing or driving game ever made but it had a lot of hard work put into it to make it look and feel unique while being an enjoyable experience. More importantly it was something special to me.
U should take the trip one day when ur in a part in life u feel comfort and able to wake up feeling great..the older we get the less time we have for the stuff we Wanna do
I really REALLY regret not giving the original the crew the attention it deserved.. tried the crew 2 twice but the game felt dead, i couldnt get myself to finish the "campaign".... but atleast i was able to record my last drive on the day the game got destroyed, one last goodbye. sorry The crew.
if nothing better has come out in the last decade.. maybe you're wanting too much, most of us seem to be getting by quite fine. these games felt like racing the dead.
You should add a link to Stop Killing Games in the description. If you don't know of it already, there's a movement started by Ross Scott to try and take legal action in order to stop companies from making games like The Crew completely unplayable when they drop support and at least provide the documentation, tools and/or infrastructure so the community could get the game running again without jumping through too many hoops. Part of the movement's strategy actually centers around The Crew as a game, as it's publisher Ubisoft is a French company and France is very pro-consumer in its laws, and also people who aren't actually even from France can make a complaint to their customer rights agency. All of the instructions to do this are on the Stop Killing Games site. Considering there's likely a decent number of The Crew owners who will be watching this, it could lend a big hand to the movement.
This game was 10x better than The Crew 2 for me. Mainly because the story/ campaign for the first game was fucking awesome and The Crew 2 lacked it. The Crew engaged me immediately with its cool, emotional, high-stakes, engaging story. I wanted to get revenge, clear my name and explore this world of criminals and underground street races. Having the campaign take you on a guided tour around the US was really cool too, because it meant I was encouraged to explore the whole of the game's US over time in a guided way that was driven by the story in the background. The progressive unlocks of the different car types and cars gave it a very unique, but structured and highly rewarding progression system. This is mirrored in the story where you climb the street-racing gang ranks. I think a lot of my issue with the second one was the vibe. You can see it in the game cover arts: For The Crew 1, it's black, gritty and you've got the whole US at your feet. For The Crew 2, it's bright white, it's all vivid and sanitised; it's not about going across the US or driving with others. It's about the different vehicles and the locations, but only in the context of racing. I think that's what annoyed me with The Crew 2: it was a racing game, not a driving game. The intro felt obnoxious and like the exact opposite of the first game. You have to customise a character and then go through a really scripted race where an announcer is screaming how cool everything is and how many likes you're getting in your ear. All before being given any reason to actually care about your character or anything in the world. The ONLY bit of story in The Crew 2 is: "Your unnamed character wants to become a racing icon by winning in all the different kinds of races. Go do that." How is that remotely compelling? Why should I want to win any of these races? So that generic Mr/ Mrs ____________ can be famous? Who cares? Start the game with your character crashing or losing a loved one or being bullied or struggling financially. Put some emotion in there that the audience can relate to and feel. Have an actual character with an actual story and give it some weight. Be interesting instead of PAINFULLY generic. This lack of stakes and sanitisation carries over to the races, too. The few races I did do felt really boxed in in The Crew 2 like I was stuck on a path. I didn't really feel like I wanted to win, just that I was there. I think it reflects a desire to give the game a wider appeal, it feels like the kind of decision that higher-ups at Ubi might've made as it just misses what made the first one so fun. Maybe the design team just wanted to take it in a new direction and contrast with the first one, but they still could've had an actual story. Ultimately, the addition of planes and boats and bikes was not enough to stave off my disappointment from the tonal shift and complete lack of story. Other than the map, which felt weirdly locked off to me, a lot of the stuff I loved about the original was gone. I probably played about with the switching mechanic for 1-2 hours and then stopped playing; which was nothing compared to the literal days I spent playing The Crew. Since The Crew 2 released, I've played The Crew 1 more, because the second one just isn't as fun.
Story made me hate the entire NFS series after Hot Pursuit 2 with a passion. It doesn't motivate me to play the game, it just makes me feel like shit and sours the entire experience. After watching the start of Most Wanted (and acquiring legitimate trauma), I would much rather have no story at all. You know, like Midnight Club 3. You can fuck right off with that. I just wanna make car go vroom.
The thing about this game is that it was lukewarm at first, but once we saw TC2 and Motorfest, we realized how good we had it with the first game. TC2 felt too vibrant and like a Horizon clone, and they butchered the map, making it feel more repetitive, less detailed, and even going so far as to remove existing landmarks and towns.
I also think it was more like "Fast & Furious" type stunts and TC2 completely wiped that and made it a full arcade racer with goobery effects and goofy stunts
i Hate the direction they took the crew 2, i despise it so much, i dont want to get followers, i dont want to be famous. i want to be low key, illegal street racing and running from the cops
Me too. I really liked the first game even though it didn’t look as good as the promotional videos. It was still a blast. I probably have 200 hours in the game. I saw the crew 2 on Xbox live and I gave it a try and it had no soul I literally hated it and after about a hour moved on to other games.
Stay away from motorfest. It's actually atrocious They took the linear story idea(think, you play a specific character for a mission), and did it for a fucking racing game. I shit you not, you do not use your own cars until AFTER you beat the race What this means is, if you want to play with your own cars, you have to replay the race. You don't use them for events unless you replay the event. This is not explained, and this is for EVERY. SINGLE. RACE. Not just 3, not 6, not even 15, but every. Single. Race.
I was there. On the last day of the crew, i streamed for 3 hours on twitch. Replayed the final Race and Just went from eastcoast to west coast. The feels i had for this game while cruising through The outskirts of chicago at night in the rain in my Pagani Huayra while listening To 'The Kills-Baby Says' just jept reminding me that this would be all gone the next day. And then it was gone. I have since taken my time and recreated all sorts of paintjobs From The Crew In Forza Horizon 5 but the feels will never be the same again.
The other thing too is the game used to feel even more like the US, and everywhere felt more unique, before the Wild Run expansion came out. It broke a lot of graphics and butchered many other things. But with PBR in Wild Run, they didn't adapt all the materials to it lol. With pre-WR, each region had its own weather, lighting, and color correction. Each region actually FELT different. I can't say the same for WR.
That's a good point I didn't actually detail that much in the video. Each place having its own weather and lighting may not be realistic, but it certainly made them more distinct.
The Crew was the first game i Betatested, it was a cool experience that shaped my life from then on. Now i'm a Game Quality Analyst and watching this felt like a slap of pure nostalgia.
Side note: TC1 was the only crew game that you could play on Linux/SteamOS systems (blame Ubisoft for not toggling a switch in Battleye). Otherwise awesome Video! Yours truly, Microwave Man
Make sure to check out The Crew Unlimited Discord. When the game is playable again, you'll find it first there. They're also a lovely lot: discord.com/invite/gUczTkphGE
the crew 1 will always have a special place in my heart, i loved this game so much, when i beta test it i played like 45h in one weekend 😅 my birth date is the december 2nd and i remember play it officially during my birthday with friends, and just drive around for hours and never get bored. i really hope that the tdu group will end up with something and bring back tc1 to life! Awesome video btw!
I absolutely LOVED just chilling out with this game. Putting on a playlist/album and joining one of the multi-hour races to just race around the whole map was absolutely amazing.
Awesome video. The Crew was the first game I followed from its announcement up to its release, and also to its death. The concept it had going was too much for 10-year-old me to not obssess over it and be excited about any announcements related it, and the fact I can't play it anymore bums me out to no end, especially since the sequels suck. A lot of what you said is pretty much how I've been feeling about racing games - my favorite genre - for years now. The festival shtick was done well in Horizon 1 but it never lived up to that onwards as much as Horizon 2 may be my favorite of them all. This trend spreading to every other franchise also doesn't help, though I'm glad NFS hasn't bowed to it yet. The worst part is that it's hard to talk about this stuff when it comes to racing games as most people who aren't into the niche just see it as the kind game you hop on to drive a car and nothing more. It's not hard to be laughed at for expecting depth in a racing games nowadays.
Not many games capture this feeling that you’re a random driver in a random place stepping into a car for a new mission each time you load in. Not even the 2nd. It almost makes me want to bring unneeded drinks for the trip.
Thank you Revo for documenting and showcasing the games more miniscule details and information, as well as veering into other relevant topics such as art direction differences and the research effort made by the development team to create the game environment, inhabitant ands the map itself and giving significantly more insight into the game for the average viewer who may not know too much about topics discussed at hand. Have a good one and go on a well deserved break for your production of such a master craft video on UA-cam. -fiswet (and thank you for including my soccer mom suv joke in the video aswell.)
23:41 never seen that trail that spirals upwards to the left. Didn't think there was areas I have completely neglected but goes to show how big the map is
25:06 only game to do the “car fest” aesthetic right is how NFS ProStreet did it because the way to do it is to make everything look like Gridlife or Gatebil but bigger. an irl “car fest” isn’t everyone having fifteen pristine supercars, it’s groups and teams and individuals bringing whatever they built as a showcase of performance, innovation, or just to have a good time putting down some solid runs. point being, it’s gotta be gritty. people shit the transmission at the line sometimes. someone might pop their tires in the burnout box. drift cars run bash bars and quick release bumpers because a good run means leaving a little paint on the concrete sometimes. put the grit back into car festivals!!! also shoutout motorstorm.
3:06 W Music choice Great video btw, Ill miss the firsr crew game. I remembered having so much fun completing the story, going from one region to the next.
Really great video, you are the first one who actually said what made the game special for me, the vibe, the felling of traveling and discovering and of course the map. Man that game, i was also one of "enjoying too late", and i didn't touched the multiplier unfortunately. But after a stressful day, putting the game with no hud and first person, it helped you know, i hope be able to make that later soon, and maybe finally playing more of the multiplayer. Thanks for the video, and thanks for the people creating this mod, you guys rock!!!
The Crew was special for me as well - it was the game where I'd catch up with a good friend. Hit the roads, talk about life. It was a good space for that.
@@GameRevo True, i usually play games alone, but the crew was the exception, i played it sometimes on discord while talking to friends. That game really game me the feeling of traveling around the country. I remember i time i tried to go of new York to los angeles without the map only guided by the plates of the world, it took me sometime but i got there.
I remember I met some random lads at like 2 am one night on The Crew and we all joined an Xbox Live party and opted to play through the entire campaign together. Not only gave me a heap of achievements, I don't think I'd have found the time for otherwise, but also gave me good memories of the game that let me now with it going away reflect on a lot more, then I probably would've otherwise.
My friends and I used to hop on this game and just drive around . We would often meet with people and do car meets and show off what we had . It was really hard to get nice cars without paying so it felt really cool to see some nice cars . The game was just so good at delivering a vibe of just driving around with your friends. Taking pictures in game to was super fun and a feature I spent a lot of time on. I had forgotten completely about this game , but I am sad to see it go. It was a gem and I may have not realized how much I liked that game until seeing it go.
It’s been almost 3 months and I still think about this game everyday, I wish I could go back despite the few issues I had with it. That specific racing game just hit different for me.
Alright you have earned my subscribe This video is so well done and you definitely did your research I would probably never know the differences between The Crew & The Crew 2 without this video I thought it was an upgrade, oh no I was dead wrong You deserve so much more recognition for you content With the driving interview, the animations, the deep dive you went on this, the comparisons between games, need I say more? Loved the part with the crew community and the funny shenanigans you were up to XD Cant see what you will make next, heres to more amazing content from you the future 🖖 The Crew still lives on, even if Ubisoft doesnt care about it anymore 🤘
Back then, 9 years ago, I REALLY want to play this game, but all I can do is just watch UA-cam playthrough of it. Then time passed, I slowly forgotten about it... until today. Guess I'll never experience this game now. Hopefully the folks at The crew unlimited community find a way to revive it back some how.
I wish Forza Horizon stuck with their original formula. Their games just feel stale at this point, even if the graphics improve or their is some minor improvments, or in some cases retrogressions. That goes for most games now days, and dont get me started of live-service games. That is the death of games, especially when its in the hands of "AAA" studios. I feel bad for the programmers, artists, modelers or anyone that put hours of hard work into their games, just for it to be shelved, or perhaps even deleted. Games like The Crew should be given a single player patch, once a studio wants to take them offline, that way, all of the hard work isnt gone for good.
imagine buying a game and than some years later there just delete it... that has to be illigal... its not like i buy a house and after 14 years soem dude comes to me and just disasamble it...
I was 13 when The Crew came out and I just remember it feeling like the future of racing games. The map, car selection, way you could turn a certain car into several different classes and especially the detailed first-person interiors. Yeah, I stopped playing it after 2-3 years. Yeah, I had uninstalled it by the time they announced it's shutting down. But I paid for the highest edition of that game, put hundreds of hours into it and had a crazy garage I put almost every day after school into building up. "Need for Speed" 2015 came out and the franchise went down from there, Forza came to PC and Horizon 5 happened. Nothing matched The Crew and the individual identity the game had, NfS being what it is made to be flashy above all for pre-teens and Forza watering itself down more and more as they keep repeating the same things. Yes new games are fun to "just play", but The Crew was immersive and set itself apart.
Man, the crew 1 will always have a special place in my heart. I remember hearing about the crew when it was first announced and got so much hype since it heavily reminded me of TDU2, which is my personal best racing game ive ever played. At one point i was also disheartened hearing i need an online connection to play. But once i got everything set, the crew 1 became one of the games ive played for a really long time, i mean sure its only like 500 hours or so but it speaks volumes on how much i enjoyed the game. I played it around the wildrun update and i remember didnt expecting the game to have an engaging story. The feel of progression was good too, progressively discovering landmarks and cities, upgrading your ride as you go from point A to B which was great to me since i rarely use fast travel and the driving felt okay to me. The PVP mode was fun too with your normal races and chaotic modes like blitz and crown. I reached PLATINUM 1 in this game and i did it without using meta cars that much, except for street skyline (fave car irl bias) and laferrari for the more chaotic game modes. To give credit to tc1 and tc2, they both have a good feeling of cruising with randoms in the open world. Sometimes i would cruise to a location on my own only to divert on purpose just to cruise with a random player i happen to pass by. But the sequel just doesnt have the same over all feel and fun as the first had in my opinion, and i played the second game to an almost same duration as the first and i reached plat 1 in pvp in that game too. I just hate that the series jumped to the festive racer bandwagon since it lost its initial identity which i liked and instead copy pasted what worked for other franchises. And like it got me thinking that, if the series sticked with its original identity, the addition of boats and planes would've opened a bunch of opportunities for game modes and mission types. Like sure the crew 2 had more game modes (sort of) now but when it released, it felt pretty bare bones. I havent played motorfest but considering its direction and style, im gonna wait for a heavy discount, compelling update or if it becomes free on ps plus. But man, RIP THE CREW 1, hopefully it somehow gets revived.
The Crew 2 could've been amazing if they traded out boats and planes for car customisation - for example, sticking floating devices and gliders on to achieve similar effects without being so overpowered.
@@GameRevo reminds me of an old ps2 game called road trip adventure. Its an open world racing game with like a toy car aesthetic and at some point in the game you can put propellers, plane wings, and rocket boosters as upgrades.
Thanks for the video. I must have spent a thousand hours in the game in the early days just driving around exploring, enjoying my favorite cars on beautiful roads and hitting the highway or the salt flats with other players. Real roadtrip simulator that game
I’m hoping at this point someone will file a lawsuit that’s public enough (and win) about companies charging $XX for a game that later can’t even be played at all when the company decides they don’t feel like it anymore. That there is so many game that the service shuts don’t but the game just reverts to a offline mode like older forzas and halos. If that’s the route a company plans on taking then just make it Free to Play and sell pointless skins/cosmetics with maybe car packs to offset it the kill it off when the income drys up.
There should be a requirement that if a company can no longer or will no longer support a game that has an online requirement that they should turn it over to the fans. Trust me, the fans will keep it running.
12:08 - I used to record hour-long videos back when I played The Crew 1 and I can see that sometimes I'd come across someone and you could drive with them for 2-3 hours. There was a text chat and probably also voice chat but they were both in the background much of the time. It was nice. I tried the second game and didn't like it, maybe it was how it felt to drive..Or the festival-esque treament it was given. I barely paid attention to that in Horizon, but I think it was just slightly worse in Crew 2.
Met some amazing people on The Crew 1 back on PS4... a lot of fun times and wonderful memories were had/made... I would of loved to hang out with all of them again just one more time but alas I wasn't able to get them all together in time to hang out on there... Pray for an offline mode to be around soon as I want to run around the USA again and grind out some things just for fun.
This is a fascinating take. A game I wish I got around to playing. This actually complements another Ubisoft game, Endwar. That had it's Theater of War servers shut down in 2013. Right now there is a grassroots revival of the game of former top players and even new players in its skirmish mode. While in the background some players are working on figuring out the game code to the extent of trying to build out a private server that would host the former Theater of War game mode. A UA-camr by the name of ICECOLDSNAKE did a retrospective on it and started the revival. I hope the players of the crew find a way to save it's online component. Just from a gaming legacy standpoint.
WHAT!?!?!!?!?!?! ivory tower comming from eden games makes SO MUCH SENSE as to why this really felt like the next "test drive" style of game. i was today years old when i learned it to fam
I played Testdrive unlimited on my PC for countless hours. I had a whole setup in my room, all the cars and what not, just before I got my real drivers license lol.
Seeing the visual of the 2014 game list just solidifies that year was the last one where I was an actual fan of what was coming out. I played watch dogs like no tmr same with AC ROGUE and even the crew on when I got bored or wanted to ride with friends.
I cant believe the first one is better than the second one, they should've scaled up the map size and added more cities and towns that were excluded previously, I hate the fact that they are focusing more on the festival aspect and everyone being friendly nowadays instead of doing proper missions and earning respect in all of the states by gangs. RIP the crew
Beautiful video. I was 11 yo when this game came out and i started playing it thanks to my grandad who bought the game for me a couple of months after his launch. I spend so many hours on this game and i kinda grew up with it. When i heard about it's faith i feel like a part of my childhood had taken away from me and till this day i feel nostalgic about how games have changed their style. We start from a game with a well make characters, a story with a properly progression when you can go anywhere, do whatever you want if it is explore, racing, escaping from the cops to a boring, not progressive and souless festival. You do not have a lot of mission in the crew i admit that, but like you said, the main character was the map, the game was 90% about exploring the US and 10% about Alex doing his vengence things. I really hope the guys trying to bring back this game accomplish their mission🤞
i have the pc physical release of this game, it has a page in its book about how long it took to drive coast to coast in the beta, and the first release, it was significantly larger then it is now, it was due to some scaling on speed being wrong, but still it was amazing, it has a story that was also great
The reason I never played the crew is because I can't stand the idea of getting invested into something and then having it taken away from me completely. I find that an untenable proposition. Unless these games come with a promise of being made playable offline at the end of the server life, I will never ever buy or even play one of them for free.
I am right with you here. I don’t care how good a game sounds or looks, if it comes with always online as a requirement just to play it comes into the world relying on the good will of people who only see the games they make as dollar signs to stay playable. It’s egregious. If your game requires an internet connection to play (especially if it’s a single player game) then you should not be allowed to charge people for it unless it comes with offline as a promised end of life update.
I really didn't realize how much I missed The Crew 1 until i played it the LAST day before it was removed... i hope they make a new one more like the first or another studio makes one in the same spirit.
"ex Eden Games developers" it all makes perfect sense now, TDU1 and 2 were quite special, and you can clearly see those developers influence when it comes to the map size and overall vibe of the The Crew
Played this game so much with a friend, hundreds of hours, we must have done the whole map across as a roadtrip countless times. Ubisoft is dead for me.
I think one of the biggest problems with the story and modern car manufacturers/game developers is from what I heard, manufacturers not wanting to be associated with “Illegal street racing” (now my information maybe off so please don’t bite me) but stories from the NFS or The Crew can’t be made anymore unless devs start making fake cars on some GTA type stuff because devs don’t want their grocery getters being involved in street stuff. It’s silly, but it I understand on one hand, but being that the games are entirely FICTIONAL, it’s a bit ridiculous. We can play any other game doing nearly anything we want, but god for bid a real life car shows up in a a game about racing said cars outside of a track
I replayed The Crew during covid. Such a great game. I wish the sequels had stuck with keeping the scale of the entire US. I was sad to hear they were shutting it down and the new crew is such a small map compared to the first one.
As a fan of racing games I can tell you one thing, even in California the terrain is wildly differnt even with just a few hours of driivng. You could go from costal red woods, cities, farmland, even deserts. Spolier alert if they ever do a sequel to Far Cry Blood Dragon it definately needs to be in the outback....Imagine if they gave an Emu a machine gun..... and yet would not be the weirdest thing ubisoft has done either.
10:20 the last batch of good Ubisoft games, I feel so sorry for buying The Crew 2 and Far Cry 5 at full price, TC2 released with the same amount of content as the Alpha version, it felt so empty.
The Star Wars Battlefront 2 community hacked together functional servers when gamespy shut down. Im confident that some passionate people will at least get the crew working as a singleplayer game
I played The Crew for about an hour or two, thought it was alright... haven't played it since. I still have it installed on my Series X, gotta try it one day and see what happens if i try and play it.
It's a shame - The Crew felt like it really cared about the city, considering it was front and centre at the start of the game. Reminds me of Watch Dogs portraying Chicago. Maybe I should give that game another chance.
imagine if they kept updating the crew 1 instead of launching another one, better physics, more customizations, graphics updates, and it would be awesome if they aded a walk mode where you can hope on the passenger seats of your friends cars
28:10 what about CarX Street PC btw? That game has been delayed for almost 4 years now, and it seems in all that time the devs have been actively working on it... the mobile version already has so much detail, and it seems they've recently been doing private beta tests for the PC version...
I remember playing the alpha or beta whichever it was back in the day and ended up putting in only 50-100 hours or so since im not really a racing guy but i really did like this game the map was the main reason i even took interest in it…added it to my steam wishlist sometime last year since i hadnt played in quite some time on my xbox since i switched to pc in 2020 but now its gone and its definitely sad..plenty of long distance drives on there but now i barely have 2 hours in the crew 2 it just dont hit the same smh
Sad to know about this game's fate, this looks like a gem that I sadly ignored for some reason. Thanks for dropping a video about it Rev! Also I'm sad to know you don't fw car festivals, they are the coolest thing Horizon brought to the market of sorts (cars AND music??? We in).
I think it's less the concept of a festival that I dislike and more Horizon's idea of a festival - it comes across very corporate-sanitised. I'd love to see a different take on it!
I was one of the people who played TC2 first, and thought that game was overhated. But then I played TC1 and I understood why... I got the game 6 months before this happened, but I didn't qualify for a refund. I did get to finish it, but knowing I can't go back to that incredible world... It pisses me off so much I haven't been able to bring myself to play the other crew games
I'm amazed that this video isn't a half hour ad for the stopkillinggames campaign. I assume you didn't know about it while making the video but now that you do I think you should at least make a short or something to let people know, nobody reads the description. I mean you clearly value the experience being lost so surely you should consider it worth the effort even if it gets one more signature on the petitions and such.
Valid point with the towers, they were in AC long before. I always think of FC3 as the 'ultimate' ubi formula game because it popularised the "control sections of the map" structure that they started using after.
I played the crew about a year after it came out, and enjoyed it very much. I loved the cars and the map. But I never got into the sequels in anyway, as to me car games come and go for entertainment. With the Forza Horizons, Or need for speeds, Crew/Motorsport just never jumped out to me. But I’ll definitely miss the OG Crew, I loved it for sure
Best game in the series :)The crew 1 nailed the atmosphere and knew what it was. The crew 2 was a downgrade in almost every way (especially FFB for wheels), motorfest is a step in the right direction but the map is too small and the ffb still has some issues but its better. In my opinion the crew 1 also has better handling then crew 2 and motorfest but the cars in the crew 1 where a bit too light. The crew 2 and motorfest went the other way. Cars are to heavy and get pulled to the ground. The menus where so simple in the crew 1 as well. You could do everything in the menus while driving except for changing keybinds
@@GameRevo The cars handle a bit better then they did in crew 2 and the ffb is better in motorfest but still has some weirdness to it and the car sound are a lot better. Still think the cars are way too heavy tho. I also feel that they should stop doing festivals/motornation. One thing i hope they do with maybe a crew 3 is some rock climbing with cars. I remember in the early days of the crew 2 when cars could drive up pretty steep rocks etc and then they removed it completely. I would recommend checking out motorfest when they have a free trial or its on sale. It's a step in the right direction when it comes to handling and vehicle headlights actually work in that game. I just don't understand why they made the hawaii map so small
4:30 exactly, and TC looks no better than TCU.. America as a whole, yeah cool if you actually add like a GTA level of detail to the areas. fuck i think SA had more detail in 04 lol
I had a pretty old and slow PC back in 2015. when I bought the game, but it ran okay. The wild run update made it completely unplayable for me, the game would crash upon launch every single time.
Yooo, watching this after having played The Crew 2 for some time ... this game actually looks much better, cleaner and more appealing, not so cluttered. Been a while since I've touched it, but now I know how I've managed to sink houndreds of hours into The Crew 1 while getting bored with the second one at the 30hr mark
Thank you so much mr revo for having me, it was a lot of fun to have that coast to coast roadtrip while yapping about the game!

As someone who loved The Crew 1, Ubisoft can legit go to hell.

Ubisoft: "You will own nothing. Now give us that subscription fee."
Honestly, done with buying games from bigger companies.
I only buyon sales, 70+% off. No subscription and have an ever growing collection of physical game library.
That's the point, though. Ubisoft doesn't want you to buy their games. They want you to subscribe to Ubisoft+.
I think Dead Space Remake and Alan Wake 2 were the only big games to come out last year that I loved.
That's an amazing story. Thanks for sharing it.
I wish you all the best that one day you can make that trip irl
U should take the trip one day when ur in a part in life u feel comfort and able to wake up feeling great..the older we get the less time we have for the stuff we Wanna do
I ain't reading allat
I really REALLY regret not giving the original the crew the attention it deserved.. tried the crew 2 twice but the game felt dead, i couldnt get myself to finish the "campaign".... but atleast i was able to record my last drive on the day the game got destroyed, one last goodbye. sorry The crew.
Well, here's hoping TCU community succeed in what they're doing. You might get your chance after all.
if nothing better has come out in the last decade.. maybe you're wanting too much, most of us seem to be getting by quite fine. these games felt like racing the dead.
Good point! Anyone reading this should go to www.stopkillinggames.com/

Oops! Been replying on my phone so I didn't catch that. Thanks
Ubisoft is registered in France? That's surprising, thought they'd be registered in the US to dodge taxes and regulations
@@aceplaysgamesnetwork9566 im hoping test drive unlimited solar crown is gonna fill the racing game hole in my heart right now
Stay away from motorfest. It's actually atrocious
They took the linear story idea(think, you play a specific character for a mission), and did it for a fucking racing game.
I shit you not, you do not use your own cars until AFTER you beat the race
What this means is, if you want to play with your own cars, you have to replay the race.
You don't use them for events unless you replay the event.
This is not explained, and this is for EVERY. SINGLE. RACE. Not just 3, not 6, not even 15, but every. Single. Race.
@@Blank55600 it’s on Hawaii though right? I think that would probably be the only draw for me.
@@Blank55600 thanks for the warning, i never planned on playing it anytime soon but ill even skip it when its on sale cause that sounds terrible
Whenever I was having a bad day I'd load up The Crew and just drive with my Nissan Skyline and it was so calming and Ubisoft took that away
This is the only video game to feature my home town and I would always boot it up if I got bored of playing my other games.

Goddamn, you're bang-on with that. What a throwback. Cool that you found your way back to this little corner!
I always think of Raycevick's video on the state of racing games. It's a shame how little diversity the genre has now
Fuck ubisoft, my favourite racing game ever. SOOOO much memories. Thanks Ivory Tower.

Thanks for the kind words. Really wish I got to actually see the soccer mom SUV, but the clip was too good not to include!
I would love to see a new game in this style, that sounds amazing.

Great video btw, Ill miss the firsr crew game.

From the start of the video, you have so much talent. I hope many subscribers come your way
I remember I met some random lads at like 2 am one night on The Crew and we all joined an Xbox Live party and opted to play through the entire campaign together.

As a european this game really helped with my american geography.
I remember drifting down the mountains of the Midwest during sleepy summer afternoons... such good memories.
28:22 TDU: Solar Crown is also going to be online only. I've heard no mention of an offline patch, either...
TDU Solar Crown, more like : The Day Before Solar Clown
Massively disappointing, if this turns out to be the case.
I thought you had way more subs boutta binge all your stuff man. Love your edit style and vibe
It was a nice surprise for me too - only found out when whammy4 told me!
I played Testdrive unlimited on my PC for countless hours. I had a whole setup in my room, all the cars and what not, just before I got my real drivers license lol.

Truly love the work here.
Thanks. I wanted to be very considerate, since I'm shining a light on the community and culture that's been built up. Hopefully I managed that.
Well said. The Crew had its flaws, but the vibe was amazing, and that's where it really counts.
Somewhere, our inner Alex is still cruising around America....
i have the pc physical release of this game, it has a page in its book about how long it took to drive coast to coast in the beta, and the first release, it was significantly larger then it is now, it was due to some scaling on speed being wrong, but still it was amazing, it has a story that was also great
i liked this the INSTANT i heard the tenements music. got so much nostalgia for bully, great video too
I loved this game with a passion in 2014-2015, so many memories
The reason I never played the crew is because I can't stand the idea of getting invested into something and then having it taken away from me completely. I find that an untenable proposition. Unless these games come with a promise of being made playable offline at the end of the server life, I will never ever buy or even play one of them for free.
I am right with you here. I don’t care how good a game sounds or looks, if it comes with always online as a requirement just to play it comes into the world relying on the good will of people who only see the games they make as dollar signs to stay playable. It’s egregious. If your game requires an internet connection to play (especially if it’s a single player game) then you should not be allowed to charge people for it unless it comes with offline as a promised end of life update.
miss the progression in TDU, starting from the bottom, getting new cars and houses
I really didn't realize how much I missed The Crew 1 until i played it the LAST day before it was removed... i hope they make a new one more like the first or another studio makes one in the same spirit.
I remember at beginning you could grind for parts so easily, absolute farming of the best parts for your car.
"ex Eden Games developers"
it all makes perfect sense now, TDU1 and 2 were quite special, and you can clearly see those developers influence when it comes to the map size and overall vibe of the The Crew
Played this game so much with a friend, hundreds of hours, we must have done the whole map across as a roadtrip countless times. Ubisoft is dead for me.
This is easily one of the best videos you've ever made. Masterful work my friend 👍
Thanks, always appreciate your support
very sad seeing this game being lost forever, this game was my childhood
During the final days, I was comparing map of actual US with The Crew and it was really fun.
More fun than the tedious progression.
That's cool! Did you save any screenshots of the comparisons? Might be worth archiving, though I'm not sure where...
Going coast to coast with my brother or pulling Supermoto wheelies with friends is something no other game can do.....
Huge bummer, I was never able to play this game, right before I get a pc it gets shutdown…
The Star Wars Battlefront 2 community hacked together functional servers when gamespy shut down. Im confident that some passionate people will at least get the crew working as a singleplayer game
I played The Crew for about an hour or two, thought it was alright... haven't played it since. I still have it installed on my Series X, gotta try it one day and see what happens if i try and play it.
good video boi o boi, haven't played it since 2017... but am feeling nostalgic
Being from the Metro Detroit area it sucks because there are virtually no games that feature Detroit especially in open world form
Ooh, that's a game not on my radar yet. Will keep an eye on it, thanks!
"like the map is the main character" damn bro, as soon as i realized it. farewell
The Crew was so good .. I kept coming back to it every year to drive some of my cars, now I can't
Just commenting to say the Tennaments theme from Bully was a good fit
Btw Far Cry 3 was not the first Ubi game to do these towers, it can be put on AC, because that originated them
Valid point with the towers, they were in AC long before. I always think of FC3 as the 'ultimate' ubi formula game because it popularised the "control sections of the map" structure that they started using after.
why am i only learning about this game now, as it dies
i'll never got to play this and it looks like it was amazing
It was really something! Wish I’d seen about it closing earlier, would’ve come back for a last drive :(
I played the crew about a year after it came out, and enjoyed it very much. I loved the cars and the map. But I never got into the sequels in anyway, as to me car games come and go for entertainment. With the Forza Horizons, Or need for speeds, Crew/Motorsport just never jumped out to me. But I’ll definitely miss the OG Crew, I loved it for sure
This is how people go into the Villain arc and start pirating games - making them accessible through private servers again.
Hmm, might have to give Motorfest a try, if you say it's a step in the right direction.
I just don't understand why they made the hawaii map so small
man.. i love The Crew drift cam. it had that angst edit: oh shit same dev form Driver San Fran!?!?
And on March 31, all the work put into the game, all the hours players played, all the miles driven... gone.
Thank you, crew. Great game, i hope i can play you again in the future❤
I sadly never got to fulfill my dream of owning a hyper car in TC1
oh man you just wait for tdsc its insanely detailed
