Three years later I'm a bit late for comment but I just found your video. I'm building a Traditions St Louis Hawken from a kit and if all proceeds well, I'll need a kit bag for my cap and slugs (ball). Your project may be just the ticket for me. Thanks
@@cowboyleatherproducts I’m currently trying to gather the tools and materials to make my own bag. I have a kibler smr 1830ish era I’m trying to stick in that era and after discovering that most are expensive and or small I would like to make one as deep as yours it’s nice!! would you mind telling me roughly how much material I’d need for a similar bag and maybe some hand tools I’d need… I would like to sow it and then reverse it to hide the stitching . Is there by chance a pattern I can download? Thanks for the reply and have a great day
I like this kind of bag but I am hand stitching, plus I am wondering ho well a few inside loops can be added for holding things from bouncing around inside like my powder flask and other things along with a inside pocket that is wetformed to hold my container of caps or if I go to use flint's for a flint lock muzzle loader and is it possible to wetform the front pouch and also make it a little longer for holding quick loads?
You can do anything anything if you have you have the patients the knowledge. You could probably wet form the front the front pouch to hold whatever you want and you could probably install Loops on the inside you are making the bag you modify it to your needs
Also I almost forgot on the shoulder strap can a buckle be added for adjusting the strap for different kind of clothing ( thickness ) for fall and winter weather?
I like the way that you made these bags and the size is the size that I like. I am currently making one my self and am wondering about a few things and I hope you can help me out I want to use on the inside of the bag glued to the swuede florescent orange rip stop material to make it easier to see into the bag for thingsalso elastic loops to keep things organized and from bouncing around also I want to not only put an exterior pouch for quick loads but a there point elastic. Sling pouch for the container of caps on the inside of the bag spirit the pouch for the quick loads on the same front price of leather also a small sheath for the short start from the outside of the gusset am using artificial signed to sew it together with a speedy stitcherafter I punch my holes for sewing is this ok or should I use a saddle stitch instead? Also what type of glue are you using hold them together while stitching
You can use a running stitch or saddle stitch your preference. The glue I use is called Edgewood you can get it at Lowe's home depot or your local hardware store It is just rubber cement. I like your idea of using elastic To hold stuff in place That is the great thing about being the creator you can do whatever you want
it really is historically a shooter's bag. The possibles bag was heavy canvas about the size of a military duffle bag, and carried on the back of a pack animal.
@@Wes-i1c My great grandpa who was born in 1824 always referred to his as a shooters bag in his hunting diary. His original Hawkins leather bag was ordered along with the rifle (he was 10 at the time) had a small instruction sheet that called the leather bag a shooter's bag. He lived to be 106. So you really need to dig deeper into real documentation, not just the junk history found on the internet.
@@galewollenberg786 it can be a possibles bag or shooters bag it’s a shooters bag if it just holds shooting supplies but it’s a possibles if it holds shooting supplies and fire cats and stuff like that and I didn’t get my information from the internet I got it from my dad

A shooters bag is still a possibles bag
