Great video, Harry. I like the idea of back-stitching at intervals when sewing the panels together to provide extra security! I work for a company making leather bags, and for turning the more difficult ones, we have a metal pole, the tip of which has been carefully smoothed, fixed vertically to the workbench. You can then use both hands on the bag while pushing against the pole to turn the bag right-side-out. If you're doing a lot of bags, it might be helpful to you, and you certainly have the skills to make something like that yourself! Nice work, and thanks for another enjoyable video!

thanks for the tip on doing extra backstops (going back a bit and forward again) in high wear areas that will stop the seamfor going up further, this will work with sewing fabric as well. i made my own fingerless gloves from fleece just before i learned of this trick, which would been good in certain areas n them. great tip. great bags you are making , i love your mentality on the quality. it is the small things that makes the difference of a great product.

This is so helpful for getting an idea what my cylinder is actually able to do. Mine is only double feed, but still should be able to cope with thinner leather. I will have to improve my skills a lot, since I‘ve been only using heavy fabrics and artificial leather so far. Very nice Attache Case , Watching - Harry a benefit for you on the arm machine is 2 or 4 strong laces hanging from the ceiling on a loop or swivel but at the end of your machine with clips to hold the project at a level so it can turn but hold your work they`ll twist but not alter your seams you can hold both sides of the foot .

When making lined bags, a gap is left un-sewn in the lining (or maybe a pocket) through which the bag is turned inside out. Turning the bag inside out is commonly called "birthing" it.
The very first Leather Sewing I did was sewing on Blinders to Harness. The Master I was apprenticing for called me and he didn’t like waiting so I jump up and start moving as fast as I could without running. When I walked up to him he doubled over laughing, he never smiled let alone laugh so every head looked at me and then everyone was laughing. Dad gum if I hadn’t sewed that Harness to my zipper on my trousers. For ten years those guys called me Straps.

Seems like man who loves his job! I wonder how you'd fit in a divider panel though. I'd think outside stitching if the fabric is quite firm is the only option?

The satchel looks great! I hand sewed four satchels as gifts last Christmas. I wish I had a sewing machine. It makes it look so much easier.
Faster but not as satisfying as hand stitching!

I combine it with the main seam.
Harry. Great video. When you are sewing seams that will be visible to the customer do you still backstitch often? I imagine it is more visible.
Yes but if you hammer them after stitching they blend in ok

Hi its the Tysew cylinder arm without the binding attachment, its a copy of a Pfaff 335 I think.
