This is a great song, Bad Religion should record it properly and release it as a single. Most bands would kill to write songs half this good and Bad Religion just throw them away.
if you read the lyrics you'll see why. They're not terrible or even bad by most bands standards but they dont flow as well as usual BR and have a litlte too much of the "Thesaurus Rock" quality BR was trying to get away from at the time, i.e., lyrics where the use of vocabulary substittues for genuine poetics. Again, I like the song, explaining why it didn't make the cut. There a few lines that work sound wise but "read" awkwardly, like "but I'm joining in nicely"
As others have said its downright bizarre that they didn't include this on Generator. That album is short as it is, i wonder if it was written too late in the recording process
Punk rock!, love these demo's and b sides,,If they were to put out an album with nothing but,,Ide buy it, guess I'll just havto settle for free (yawns)
Lyrics: well they said there was nothing to worry about And they said there was no reason to shout But I saw the bulkheads cracking And for us there's no way out When we started on our journey No one ever could have foreseen Our desolate and lonely ending and a growing helpless feeling But it doesn't take a genius to see There's a hole in the ship And there's nothing we can do Our worst fears have now come true A few of us are struggling desperately To shoot the albatross of H.M.S. Humanity It's time to bail, but I think it's too late All my cohorts think I'm crackers They’re embroiled in other matters And despite obvious warning They won't heed my futile chatter But there's something they ought to know There's a hole in the ship The end is oh so near The others show no interest or fear Our nature overwhelms our buoyancy Yeah nothing could patch the growing vacuity It's time to bail, but I think it's too late Is it possible we have a social disease that makes us close our eyes in dangerous times But I'm joining in nicely Or are we too aware and simply too scared to accept destiny, our mortality Our mortality, yeah There's a hole in the ship And there's nothing we can do Our worst fears have now come true A few of us are struggling desperately To shoot the albatross of H.M.S. Humanity Our nature overwhelms our buoyancy And nothing could patch the growing vacuity It's time to bail, but I think it's too late It's time to bail, (It's time to bail) but I think it's too late

Can you imagine what could've-been-BR is just sitting in some drawer on some farm somewhere.
Damn, this demo fuckin' rips! Just like 'Shattred Faith' and 'Who We Are', why in the world would these amazing tracks be left off an album?!
Greg's home recordings --> Cassette tape --> Digital (wav) --> MP3 --> UA-cam
dammit brett looks like mclovin
Holy Shit!!!!!! I NEVER heard this one before!!!!!! They NEED to put out an album featuring ALL their outakes!!!!
"... shoot the albatross of HMS Humanity"
Probably one of the best lines I've ever heard in a song.
What an absolute banger. I'll never understand how some of these great B-sides they wrote in the 90s didn't make the cut.
Whatever the case, I want them to release an album of these!

best unreleased demo I say

That is raw.
First time I've heard it, What a great track 👍
I can’t believe I waited 28 years to hear this... amazing song! Seems to have been written nowadays
Sounds like it could have been released on either of their last two albums.
I often wonder as well! I would love to hear a studio version of this - it sounds amazing..
this is a single +1
Generator needed more songs on it. This would have been a good addition to a great album
awesome

Really wish this one would have made it onto one of the albums. Very cool song. Thanks for posting.
Haha, perfect picture.
Best describing of the state of the USA in 2020. 😞

Great. How come this can't be found on an album?
It never made it past demo, unfortunately.

Lyrics:
well they said there was nothing to worry about
And they said there was no reason to shout
But I saw the bulkheads cracking
And for us there's no way out
When we started on our journey
No one ever could have foreseen
Our desolate and lonely ending
and a growing helpless feeling
But it doesn't take a genius to see
There's a hole in the ship
And there's nothing we can do
Our worst fears have now come true
A few of us are struggling desperately
To shoot the albatross of H.M.S. Humanity
It's time to bail, but I think it's too late
All my cohorts think I'm crackers
They’re embroiled in other matters
And despite obvious warning
They won't heed my futile chatter
But there's something they ought to know
There's a hole in the ship
The end is oh so near
The others show no interest or fear
Our nature overwhelms our buoyancy
Yeah nothing could patch the growing vacuity
It's time to bail, but I think it's too late
Is it possible we have a social disease that makes us close our eyes in dangerous times
But I'm joining in nicely
Or are we too aware and simply too scared to accept destiny, our mortality
Our mortality, yeah
There's a hole in the ship
And there's nothing we can do
Our worst fears have now come true
A few of us are struggling desperately
To shoot the albatross of H.M.S. Humanity
Our nature overwhelms our buoyancy
And nothing could patch the growing vacuity
It's time to bail, but I think it's too late
It's time to bail, (It's time to bail) but I think it's too late
