@@socalastarte6727 you can’t put “wrong” on an opinion lmao, while many would agree with you there’s a select group of us that keep coming back to it. Not sure why you’re even here since this album has obviously ruined your life or insulted your mother or something like that
@@socalastarte6727 also if you’re in it for “good” music, punk in general isn’t for you. It’s not about appealing to audiences and pumping out cash flow. It’s about saying “fuck the standard, fuck authority, and fuck you.” I emphasize the “fuck the standard” bit with this album. The fact that it almost destroyed Epitaph gives it an added layer of respect from me.
Yeah, I’ve been a punk rocker for over 30 years, I’m pretty well versed on the subject. I’m by far not the only one who despises this album. The band members themselves have stated on multiple occasions that it’s terrible. There is a reason they refuse to re-release it and never play these songs live. I’ve seen them live about 20 times and they publicly mock this album. It’s really bad. Like Force Awakens or Rise of Skywalker bad.
@@socalastarte6727 If you check UA-cam you will see recent performances of "Billy Gnosis". Plus, the band did (reluctantly) include it in their 15 LP box set...
Let's keep in mind that this was an attempt at prog rock by a bunch of 18 year olds with somewhat limited musical chops (especially when it comes to prog rock). When you look at it that way, you realize that Into the Unknown was a pretty damn good effort even if it missed the mark at the time.
Am I the only one who think bad religion should re-record this album? I mean the songs are good and still have that classic BR feel. Just with lots of Van Halen overtones.
The album is so good. Not every song is perfect but there are a few amazing ones. I found a rip online long ago. They were really pushing it on this one. This may not be a hardcore album but the band was. The best hardcore bands were the ones that pushed the boundaries and forced their listeners to open their waxy ears. Because hardcore fans are still some of the most ignorant music listeners in overall. Albums like Zen Arcade and Beware The Savage Jaw are true hardcore classics.
i saw a BR interview, I can't remember who was saying this but one of em said that they were embarassed by this album and that they just wanted it to disapear. Like a bad caserole that you just want to forget about.
I once whirled this platter while playing penuckle with my chums at the haberdashery as Reagan invented the Shamwow in his GODDAMN SLEEP. Fuck everything else.
This album aged so well. It funny how bad it is and how not punk it is. I get them not acknowledging it for so long. But for some reason it's awesome now. What a trip
Lyrically, the songs on this album are textbook Bad Religion. Musically, it's not all to my tastes. I really only this, "... You Give Up" and "Time and Disregard." Although having said that, while I don't think this album is bad, it certainly shouldn't be an introduction to Bad Religion.
Yeah! Shame people can't/couldn't see the potential in this album just because it's not bad religion's/punk rock's typical sound. They maybe won't release it because they think it still would ruin their image.
@straightedgesteveo definitely not dude, i feel the same sure its different sounding, but it still has the bad religion feel to it, especially in the lyrics.

its actually really critically acclaimed, the band just hates it because they never took it that seriously, and it was of course hated by the punk scene
Well this is not that bad. In fact I think it's great. It's like Bad Religion meeting Devo. But I have to admit that the keyboards, here, sound cheap,, too Van-Halen-esque whereas Devo keyboards sound "smart" (if you know what I mean) and are brillant.
i'd love to see this album re-recorded. and not white-washed (if you would call it that) back into typical Bad Religion sound. They should go all-out with over-the-top production, and do the songs properly.
On one hand: It’s attempting to be Prog and fails as both a Prog and Punk album. It’s production is shit, the lyrics are mediocre and cliche, it’s not even fitting in Bad Religion, and this is nothing like their first album. On the other hand: It’s actually got some decent songs, Billy Gnosis, ...You Give Up, Million Days, etc. Graffans voice improved, and the albums very catchy. It’s a very bizzare album.
This is a GREAT LP! I wish Bad Religion would STOP apologizing for "Into the Unknown" and give it a CD reissue...
Wrong, this is horrific! Synth pop meets Skate punk= huge failure. Album is sooo bad it almost killed the band and Epitaph records.

Bretts guitar tone on this album is 🤌
I will never get why they feel ashamed of this album, it is absolute genius.
Agreed. Variation and versatility aren't bad things.
Punk goes Rush
i can't understand why they never re released this! it's so good!
A lot of the songs in into the unknown have been an influence on the later
This one for example has some resemblance to the handshake
Best on the album. A great album in my opinion...
I agree, and the last track is really good too!
That warm synth intro 😙👌

Totally agreed
It kinda reminds me of a Sega Genesis era NHL game
Introdusing SpaceRock Bad Religion. I like it.
2:43 is the best thing I've ever heard! EVER!
Ironically, Into the Unknown got a 4.5/5 start review on Allmusic, better than most other Bad Religion albums.
Has anyone read Greg Graffin’s book? I hear he explains it quite well
It's as if they looked at the Damned and said; watch this!
It's only over when you give up.
POR FAVOR QUE TEMON

Glam rock, hard rock, post-punk, new wave, electronic rock, progressive rock, space rock, power pop
i wish they would play this live at every show - wearing blond wigs :'-)

Simply Amazeing. never give up . cheer's (:
This album is fucking great... Please, BR... RE-RECORD THE ENTIRE ALBUM! hahaha...
OMG, THIS IS SO BAD ITS AWESOME
I got high to all of their songs - many years ago :D
...but I just played Zelda and Mario ;)
i saw a BR interview, I can't remember who was saying this but one of em said that they were embarassed by this album and that they just wanted it to disapear. Like a bad caserole that you just want to forget about.

1:23 sounds like the most random synth solo ever.
Anyways, read Greg Graffins book.....he explains it quite well.
This reminds me a lot of tsol's experimental beneath the shadows

Sounds so much like Husker Du!
@SeonhwaDaDiscPriest hahaha you da man! Great song great game.

I really like this song but I understand why the band hates the album and never wants to revisit it. It almost destroyed them.
It's my favourite album of theirs.
Obviously Greg listened to the Stranglers in this period. :D

this is the only song on the album i like. it's fucking awesome and this is coming from a fan of song like latch key kids cant stop it murder etc.

Anyone else's mind blown once 2:43 happens??
If you are a true Bad Religion fan, then 2:43 is the best thing you've ever heard
Wat
This is truth
Wow I never liked this band to begin with and this makes Discharge's Grave New World look like a masterpiece. Good Job BR!
It's good on its own, but perfect at 1.25x
@straightedgesteveo

@straightedgesteveo I was just thinking "It sounds like Eddie Van Halen helped them write this song." (Not that it would be a bad thing.)
its actually really critically acclaimed, the band just hates it because they never took it that seriously, and it was of course hated by the punk scene
different style but you can still tell its bad religion
Wasn't this song on Stranger Things?
@TheradiomanofYT
Because they disown it.
your religion is good if you listen to br
hahaha omg this is hilarious, i can see why the band are not proud of this album thank god they made suffer after and not before this xD
Still better than anything they did in the last 15 years.
Well this is not that bad. In fact I think it's great. It's like Bad Religion meeting Devo. But I have to admit that the keyboards, here, sound cheap,, too Van-Halen-esque whereas Devo keyboards sound "smart" (if you know what I mean) and are brillant.

haha it's so poppy
wtf i have never listend to this album, hahahaha, wtf were they thinking? good thing this dind't keep going
🤷♂️ every band has their « explorational » phases I guess 😆
