The first half of the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.
My husband and I built this loveseat in about two hours. We did not have the craig jig so we screwed a 2x2 strip to the inside of the back and front to mount our seat slats to. I love it!
Love your work guys and keen to see the next outdoor projects. The way the pocket screws were used on the slats is no issue at all, pocket screws here are stronger than traditional screws because they are engaging in face grain rather than end grain and they are angled favourably to wedge the board in as downward pressure is applied. The main frame screws however... those are only engaging in end grain and will eventually give up no matter how long or big they are, as you already have a dowel covering the screw head you would do better to glue and screw the joint; then after glue has set remove the screw, drill out and replace a with a full length dowel, that will never give up. A couple of pocket screws on the inside vertical face of the 4x4 will also stop any rotation.
This is such a clean design. I really love it. Are you satisfied with just one screw holding those bulky 4x4s together? I'd be worried to death about the shear risk on the screw as a single point of failure. Just bought the plans!!
You should have fastened the pocket hole screws from the bottom in case you take the cushions in and it rains, by leaving the up water will puddle in the holes and it doesn't matter how good a finish is it will fail with standing water on it.
@@Woodbrew Trust me, from experience I know if its outside water will collect in the pocket hole screws, even under a cover. please turn them over on the next build.
I’d be less concerned about the water, however the strength. The way the holes are drilled, the majority of the wood “meat” is on the opposite side that was drilled. Aka, when you put too much force on it installed in that orientation, there is a lot higher chance of the slats ripping away from the screws. (I’ve personally seen this happen). So flipping then over I guess would resolve both concerns. No hate, just trying to help. :)
You guys have created some great pieces! I look forward to seeing what you’ve come up with each week. I do have a question: does the varnish you use come in different colors? If so, why haven’t you guys added any color to your projects?
@@Woodbrew thanks, i am going to build this, but add a feature. i am going to use a router and create a 1/4x1/2" sections and insert an oak stripe on the 4x4 pieces
Woodbrew you two are awesome thanks for this amazing channel you created your content on this channel is amazing...I hope one day that my talent show channel can reach as many people like your channel does every day...Keep up the awesome work you do...A+A+A+A+A+
Hey great job, love the look I have a question, how is the that sealer on outdoor conditions, does it weather well? does residue come on the cushions or it doesn't stain? much appreciated!!!!
Thank you! And cushions are from Target! We got lucky and got them at the right time for end of summer sale for like $20 a cushion. Still a little pricy, but better than $30!
It's a shame the backrest isn't having any angle. The backrest angle should preferably be around 15 degrees. Also, slope the seat base down towards the back at about 5 degrees. I don't think this bench will sit comfortably. The bench looks good, but it will be better with the angles in place.
Don't use the orbit sander for edges... its made for plane surfaces. The sander table will slowly gettin softer and your results wont be as good as before

Great to see young adults using their skills to make useful things, well done looks great
Thanks so much!
This video was amazing! I’d really like to build this couch but want to make it sit higher. Would you suggest just making the legs longer?
Beautiful work y’all. I hope to move down to the coast and make something like what y’all made for a relaxing afternoon. Keep up the good work.
Yeess!
I love all the patio furniture videos. Would love it if you’d make a diy floating chair for two video.
Wow !! Awesome craftsmanship!!! I will be saving this to make
Go for it!
Hi I love this and would love to make it! Do you guy have the measurements of the 4x4’s & 2x4’s after you cut them?
We have a full set of plans on our website! www.woodbrew.tv/store/p/outdoor-sofa-plans

Thanks! And the more you know 😏
Do you have a build plan to make it sit higher vs low
Cool project!! I am in need of an outdoor sofa!
They are the best! Especially in the fall with a little fire :)
Beautiful and very little material cost! Definitely looking forward to the rest of the outdoor furniture builds!
Yes! Other than the cushions 😬
@@Woodbrew yeah, I've noticed the foam on the cushions can be costly!
You could probably make them pretty cheap, but we didn’t have time and I found these on sale at Target! They were like $20 a cushion 🤷🏼♀️
Sofa turned out great! I’d be a little careful with just pocket holes. May be wise to add strips for bracing under the slats.
Agreed - sort of a ledger board for each end of the slats to sit on, would also help to make sure the slats stay level as you're screwing them in.
I love this. Super simple and chunky. I've been looking for something like this.
And she looks super high at the beginning.

These are probably the strongest screws we've found! Heck yea! Share with us how it goes!
it was beautiful congratulations!
Thank you so much!

That's exactly what I was going to suggest. Pocket holes on top could be a moister problem.
It’s under a patio where rain rarely gets in. Good idea though! If it ever goes outside outside, we will probably flip them over
Y’all get better every video
Hi, where would I find the plans to build this piece as I think it’s really cool
Simple, Basic, yet... elegant.
😁 Glad you like it!
Great job guys! Enjoy the sofa!
That is beautiful! Excellent tip on raising the back stretcher. I know I totally would have made that mistake.
Thanks David! It was a last minute thought and I’m glad we did it 🙃
Great video. I am going add this to my project list
How do you two people this young own such a nice shop.
Do it! We've been doing this for 5 years, so we have been building it up as we go :)
love chunky outdoor furniture , great job guys keep up the great work...
SAME
Couch and finish look awesome!
Thanks so much! ☺️
Zip think I would turn the slats over so the screws are on the underside, keep the water out....
It’s under a patio where rain doesn’t get it, but it we ever moved it completely outside, we will flip them over.

Good Day!
Where did you buy the cushions or did you make them?
Target!
Are those GRK RSS screws holding the 4x4s together?
Yes they are.
Are you working with 4x4s in 8' length or longer? Looking forward to those detailed plans!
Yup 8’! 🙃
Awesome job Y'all, looks really nice and comfortable! 😃👍🏻👍🏻👊🏻👊🏻
😁😁😁😁 Thanks Fred!
Building this soon! What size diameter screws did you use for the 6” screws? Are they structural screws?
Yayyy! We used these 5/16" screws : homedepot.sjv.io/keAan
Woodbrew you guys rock! Also, have you had any issues with the 4x4’s spinning since you only used one screw?
No there are pretty sturdy! You can add some glue to make it bomb proof though✌🏻
You guys have created some great pieces! I look forward to seeing what you’ve come up with each week. I do have a question: does the varnish you use come in different colors? If so, why haven’t you guys added any color to your projects?
The finish doesn’t come in colors, but we just really dig the natural tones of the lighter wood! It’s a style preference I guess 🤷🏼♀️🙃
Looks great, should be able to hold it’s on during a hurricane
Very true 😅
Buen proyecto, saludos desde Trujillo Perú
¡Gracias!
Love it! Keep up the great work.
Thank you!
That is a nice finish. Good job guys. Great project.
Wow that is awsome. very nice build my friends! This was great to see how you made it!
So glad you enjoyed it!
that is beautiful
Thank you!
Beautiful outdoor sofa, well done!
Could i please have the dimensions of your cuts to the wood? Great job by the way 👍🏼😎
It turned out great!
Glad you like it!!
I've got to build one of these! Thanks guys for the encouragement to try something different! 😍
Totally! It’s super simple, but I dig the chunky outdoor furniture 🤗
what size wood screws di you use to connect the 4x4 pieces and what are they exactly. thx
We said 4 in the video and then I thought it was 6, but it’s actually 5” 😂 1/4x5 from Spax!
@@Woodbrew thanks, i am going to build this, but add a feature. i am going to use a router and create a 1/4x1/2" sections and insert an oak stripe on the 4x4 pieces

That’s so sweet 😭 We are far from perfect, but this means a lot!
Hey great job, love the look I have a question, how is the that sealer on outdoor conditions, does it weather well? does residue come on the cushions or it doesn't stain? much appreciated!!!!
This finish is made for boats and marine applications, so perfect for the outdoors! No stains on cushions either!
Do you mind sharing where you got the cushions from? I missed it in the video
Livvy Dee I just read a comment on another person and they said they got them for $20 per cushion on sale at Target.
On sale at Target!
Very nice. Just have something attached to the bottom of the legs so that nice coating didn't scratch
gorgeous bench 👍😄
Thank you! 🙃
Super simple and super nice! 👍🏻
Thanks so much!

@@thechileacademy4800 Thanks

very good
1 bolt screw for the butt joint. Doesnt it shake? Will it last long?
Sturdy as can be ☺️
Yeah, I wonder about that. Is all the weight supported by one screw into the end grain?
