Simple and clean looking build. I like it. Only thing I would change is you might want to fill those screw holes as water will sit in them. Or use Camo screws next time that you drive in from the side using their jig, where water is less likely to go. Makes for a screw-less top appearance as well.
Slick work! Enjoy the whole process...time-lapsing where you should, great camera angles, crisp and sharp video resolution and your voice -over work is calming. Cheers, Scott
Do yourself a favor and purchase a 4" version of the Torx bit you are using, will save a lot of hassle where the bit constantly gets stuck in the screw after driving. I did this and didn't realize how much time I was wasting each day by pulling out that bit each time. Love the project, it looks great!
The doggo is supervising again lol. I love this would love to build this. Lumber prices still have to mortgage your house to build your shed lol When you said fire 🔥 wondered if you were headed to the sho shugi ban. BYOT bring your own torch!! lol yep cattywhampus
Kona is always so handy it seems like and always around. I would never leave my side unless he wants to eat haha! Thanks so much for watching as always.
I'm really impressed with the amounts of project that have come out lately. They are all really great to watch. thank you so much, you have really developed your own style. I think this channel should really grow a lot in the future. keep up the inspiring work !
Wow aure! Thanks so much for the kind words. They are truly appreciated and so grateful for people like you that can see how much hard work I put into my video. Every day I try to learn something new to be better at my craft and hopefully it help others learn at the same time.
Plans please Scott. I try and make my projects from reclaimed timber and the sizes aren't always the same. So it helps make adjustments or come to the decision that the reclaimed won't work. Nice video
Well done. Well built and as with everything you build, will last as long as you own them. Did a similar project years ago. Can’t wait for the fire pit video 😜
applying rubberized self-adhering window flashing tape to the top and back face of the bench supports will halt any water penetration behind and under the seat and backrest boards . . .
Great idea, unfortunately the cushions slide everywhere and fly off during windy days. To fix this issue was a simple wide strip of Velcro tape, tacked the strips to the wood and sewed the others to each cushion seat and pillow-back, worked like a charm! Great project and extremely comfortable (especially if you purchase the fluffier filled cushions from California Backyard). Unzip, power-wash, and they are like new for 3 seasons so far. Great idea and budget friendly for larger family gatherings. 🥰🥰
Just got done building this came out pretty nice, however i'm noticing that theirs no real structural support side to which makes me worry one day it'll collapse to the left or right, i'm considering adding some 2x4 or 4x4 between the legs for added support if it starts to feel wobbly down the road, hopefully the back and seat will remain stable, i'm missing 6-7 of the 2" grk's because apparently home depot sold me a box missing a few lol I didn't do the fire coating for the legs tho i did a dark deck sealant as i didnt have a torch and given the price of those 4x4s didnt want to risk it. I went a bit cheap on the back/seat cause i bought cheap 1x4's and then i did the oil like you did but still didn't feel great about it's weather safeness as the couch isn't covered so i put a layer of polyurethane over it after a few days of the oil curing.
@@BYOTools My (devious) plan: 1) Show wife the high cost of outdoor furniture 2) Show her your video and the great outcome 3) Explain the huge cost savings 4) Buy more tools!
Lol, Cattywompus is fun to say. I'm amazed at how often you do projects we are doing on our house build. Great video Brent. Unfortunately these cushions are almost the same price as a whole economy set, so I opted for the set instead of making it.
Is there any way you can build a safe and elegant fire pit. I love how you built the sofa and how you explained durability and protection. I have subscribed since you offer free plans. AMAZING
They are absolutely beatiful, and yes, sexy! The contrast between the burned wood and the natural wood is eye catching, and yet somehow soothing. Very impressive work, from beginning to end. And, best of all, you seem to enjoy it! P.S. I loved the music at the end! Took me back into the past many years.
What was the ratio you used for the mineral spirit to boiled lin seed oil? It appeared like a 1:1 ratio but I thought I’d ask to be sure. I made an outdoor dip bar for my patio with same burn technique but did not add mineral spirit to my boiled Lin seed oil. Needless to say it was a pain in the but applying it because it was so thick! Thanks for that tip on adding the mineral spirit, thats a great tip for the next project!
great instructional video... one note that I would have done at the end (maybe you had your reasons to NOT do this): add heavy-duty strips of velcro to the bottom of those cushions and the top of the seat itself so the cushions don't move anywhere near as much just a thought!
Great thought Ian! I’ll have to keep that one in mind. Don’t know how much we will have the cushions on vs leaving it bear. But if we have the cushions on more often than not then that’s the Way to go. Thanks for the support
Bench turned out nice. But just so you know, pocket holes are NOT a professional way to joint 2 piece together as you said @3:23 They get the job done and great for DIY'ers or Weekend Warriors, but there are several better and stronger ways to joint 2 piece together... Mortise and tenon, half lap just to mention a couple. Also, you should have used Titebond 3 or some other waterproof glue along with the screws.
Totally agree. I built a door to my raised bed garden using pocket holes for the boards on the inside. They ripped out and warped after a year. I definitely will be rebuilding them with better joinery next time
The fasteners. From experience, only stainless steel fasteners should be used in outdoor cedar. Cedar is unique in that it has an oil that reacts with fastener coatings (galvanized, anodized, powder coated and even polymer) and water, like rain. It then leaves permanent ugly black stains in the wood that bleed down from each fastener hole. Even when you put stain over the fastener. I've even seen these stains bleed through paint. I like the benches very much, but again, from experience the only fastener that I've had any luck with on outdoor cedar are stainless.
I’m thinking of adding storage option with a project like this, so that I can put this on my front patio and double as a place for Amazon or Temu delivery. Thoughts?
Enjoyed watching the build, and looking to build the exact plan. If you've provided the plan, how can I get a copy. At a minimum, can you provide the measurements for the legs and measurements for each cut. Much appreciated.

Who would not like the plans. I have gotten hooked on your videos.
I have seen hundreds of builds like this but this is the style I want for my first outdoor project.
Perfectly done I enjoy wood work because my dad was a carpenter it’s always a pleasure for me to learn new things
Caddywhampuss... love it we use that frequently when working on jobs.
Cool project. The cushions look super comfy. Yes please for plans.

Right?! Actually read the directions and saw that one. Always good to read the directions ha ha. Thanks so much for the continued support Sebastien.
Would love the plans for this, a perfect addition to my back patio and fire pit...
Great idea to add plans!
