It's a good trimmer, and now that we bought the updated one it's even better. I use it a lot more now and the gas one is on its way out. Thank you all so much for your awesome comments. I recently split with my husband and he was the one to restring this trimmer even at the end when we were at odds in the same house. I almost threw the thing away I got so frustrated doing it on my own. Thank you for the tutorial, love your wife at the end!
My husband passed away in March and he was the one that always trimmed and edged. I went to trim in May and the string was at the end. This video made it so easy to figure out how to put new string on easily and now I'm doing it myself. From my heart, thanks so much.
I am joining all the other women's vote of thanks. Your video was so much easier to follow than the Ryobi. The instructions were well explained. I could see what your were doing and follow along. I am finally no longer frustrated.Thank-you!!
Even grandmas are super appreciative of this! I had 4 weedeaters in the garage because I had no clue how to change the string, so I would just go buy a new one. So sad! Then my son said, “Mom, everything is on UA-cam!” Next thing you know, this video helped me through it, and I sold three weedeaters! Huge thanks!
I am a single gal married for 32 years so I never had to trim as I did the gardening and my husband did the yard. A video like this transformed my helplessness! Ha ha. I love my battery Ryobi. No fumes for me. Thank you soooooooo much! Can't wait to get back out there. You are a lifesaver!
I know there's so many comments thanking you for an exceptionally clear and useful demo, but it never hurts to share a kind word - thank you! Like many of the ladies here, we're doing the best we can and appreciate all the help we can get when outside our particular area of expertise :)
Best freaking explanation on how to change the trimmer line. I have not seen anyone do a better explanation on ANYTHING. Truly, you have a gift on teaching people. Thank you.
Thanks for the video. The Ryobi instructions weren't all that clear. I actually love this trimmer. It's totally adequate for my yard, and always had difficulty with 2-strokes. My neighbors appreciate it too. So for all you guys out there worried about being seen with such tool, it's not the size that matters, but what it can do.
Hahaha, so true. Glad it was helpful! Being embarrassed of a trimmer is the least of my worries. 😂 I do agree that it's a great trimmer. We have a LOT that has to be trimmed and the fact the wife will do it with that trimmer makes it an even better trimmer!
Thanks so much for this video~ I'm a 60-something year old woman who is trying to do my own gardening, and I bought this one because, like your wife, it seems manageable. I just finished my trimmer line today and didn't really know what to do. After watching your video, I was back up and whacking my weeds in no time. Appreciate the help~
OMG THANK YOU My dad passed away about a month ago and I have to learn how to do all of this Thank you so much, I never use the string just the plastic blades so thank you this was super easy to follow and so helpful
Thank you sooo much!! I’ve been trying to wind it up backwards! As a wife, I love this trimmer as well. It’s lightweight, easy to control, and does the job. Very true about being weak, but hey, it’s become a favorite of mine. I can cut the thicker weeds with my shears after. Thanks again and thanks to your wife for video-ing it! I don’t know what I would do without UA-cam’s “how to” videos.
Same here I was winding backwards until he said the “magic word” wind opposite of how it came in! Finally I watched 3-4 videos until finally he nailed it! So appreciative!!
Fantastic video & super helpful. Just bought a used one & had to put in string. Had enough out to finish my small area & string gone. Now I hope when I recheck it another day, will check your instructions. Never was good at weed wackers. Even in Maryland I was did not know how to install string & no help back in my 40's. Thanks from Florida!!! Same one I have....
Super-clear and helpful-thanks! (It boggles my mind that anyone would give something this straightforward and useful a "thumbs down"... I can only imagine they were having bad hair days.)
Oh man! Your video was a lifesaver! I am an old lady and bought bobbins when I bought the trimmer but only finished one today. I wrestled with the cover cap thingy for ten minutes before I resorted to UA-cam. BINGO! I did have to get a screwdriver to lift off the top because my hands are so small. But within the first minute you taught me what I needed to know! Thanks much!
I had wound it up in the opposite direction making the release function unleash when turned on hahaha - luckily I didn't get wacked. Figured I'd watch a video as I clearly wasn't doing something right lol. Thank you!
Thank you sooo much!! I’m a 33 year old single mom trying to handle my lawn by myself & didn’t know how to put more string in my trimmer!! Your demonstration was spot on & easy to follow!!
Thanks so much. Desperately need to weed-wack and everyone that tried to explain the procedure of refilling the line to me had different solutions. Saved the day!
I just got the Ryobi 3 in 1 mower today. I wanted to be able to have my own tools to take some of the outside chore burdens from my husband that works 14hr shifts. I was bummed that my line broke and had no clue how to replace it. Thank you so much for your video. Took me less than 5 minutes and I was back at it in the yard.
Thank you so much!!! The manuals dont have instructions and every video I watched didnt have the same mechanism as mine. Then I found your. Life saver I am a woman who lives alone. So thank you!!!!
Very clear & straight forward explanation. I also appreciate the fact that you did it outside, with plenty sunlight, which made it even easier to follow you. Now, this is how a video is done - THANK YOU!!
Nice, clear video, thank you. I would like to add that I got much better performance using the thicker .080 inch twisted line (which is OK according to the manual) than with the originally supplied .065 inch line. The thicker line holds longer, and cuts much better.
Well done. If only other videos were as good as this. No ambiguity, no long-winded over qualifying of what has already been said. Just straight forward and to the point.
Thank you! I am like your wife, I really like this Ryobi 18. It is the first "moterized" (actually electric) outdoor tool I have ever dared to use. Thanks again!
Thank you for making this video! I’m 31 years old and never have I used a weed eater. I just bought one of these used and was clueless on how to load the string. Thank you again!
Thank you 4 years later😆 my husband is sleeping for work and I didn’t want to wake him to re line it. I was so close but so far away without your video😅
Muy buen video. No sabes cuanto me ayudaste. No tenia ni idea de como poner el hilo. Despues de varios años sigues ayudando con este video. Explicas muy bien, detalles precisos y muy concreto. Me hiciste hacerlo muy facil...Muchas gracias.
Yes! Finally you said the magic word! To wind the string in “opposite” direction of how it went in in the spool!! I watched several videos! Yours nailed it that was the tension issue! The string Needs to be rewinded in opposite direction of how it went in at source. Thx. 🎉
Thank you for these ABC instructions. If you did videos like these for other things like, installing cabinets, replacing rotten pieces of floors in mobile homes, piping, replacing sinks in MH, and how to hook up a fridge with a water and ice machine to the plumbing... I might actually be able to do it.
Omg, I couldn’t get the line to work and gave up 6 months ago! You’re video got me back trimming again! Thank you so much! Saving just in case I forget again ❤
Thanks! I was doing yardwork to try to surprise my husband for Father's Day and we have this trimmer. It was out of line and I had no idea how to change it. Your video was very helpful and user-friendly. Even I could change it! Thanks so much!
Hello, Thank you for posting this up! my husband passed recently and I didn't have to maintain the yard until I had to do it. I look into his yard stuff and I am so happy that he bought the ones that I can operate. Thank you for showing us ladies how to change it out.
I love how easy this video was to follow. We're two exhausted parents on the verge of giving up XD but this video saved our morning and we're now full steam ahead with our gardening fencing project (once we mow the lawn!) [edit: corrected typo]
I just ran out of line with my new Ryobi and didn't know how to re string it. You are a life saver. I was trying to remove the whole damn thing and finally quit. I didn't know it was just the top white thing. LOL Thanks loads.
Quick, fast and easy! Great instructions! No long wasted time. Easy to understand. Finally I was able to change the string by myself. Thank you so very much.
Thank you. As previously mentioned, simple, straight instructions without a lot of extra words. Sitting here in 85 degree sunshine, wanted to get it done quickly.
My 80yo Mom insists on doing the yard work but couldn’t handle the weight of a gas trimmer any longer, so Sis got this trimmer for her. She loves it, and I will say, it’s Considerably lighter than a gas trimmer, so the low power is acceptable. She loved you video. Thank you.
That's exactly why we made the video. I mow and trim the yard and always had him change the line. He wasn't home one day and I searched you tube and couldn't find anything that helped. I still look at the video to make sure I'm doing it correctly.
Mine is a single string but it constantly needs to be threaded back in and right middle of working it disappears into the spool itself I spend more time re threading it than I do working it I have gone through replacement string and done my yard once
Tamara Kennedy The same thing happens to me every time I use it. Really frustrating. I've tried several different ways of winding it on but no matter what it continues to happen
First day of gardening leave and guess what? No nonsense advice that I really appreciate and knowing there are cheaper line alternatives than the replacement packs mentioned in the manual is gratefully received. Cheers from my Ranch Down Under to yours!
Thank you so much I’ve been sitting in my grandpas Garage trying to figure out how to line this Weedwhacker for like half an hour I finally found your video I praise you
Thankyou SO much!!! I lost the instructions. Ran out of the string. Bought some new string and had no clue what I was doing. You made it beyond simple to fit. Thankyou 😊
Is the black button where the line is, stuck pressed in...or does it easily go in and out? I'm wondering if that's the problem. Do you constantly power it on and off? That also feeds line each time.
I think I know what the problem is!! I had the same issue so I watch the video again and I realised that after you put the line into the small hole you have to wind the line up in the opposite direction. I went the same direction from the line but than the line comes out by itself ones you operate the trimmer.
What a great video. My new line trimmer instructions don't tell me that it can be refilled, only to buy the spools that are already threaded. In Australia they are $22 for 3 which works out to be quite expensive. Since my husband has been unwell it is now something I have had to learn to do and these videos are wonderful. Thank You
I'm caring for my friends yard while he's in hospital, and this will help immensely because I didn't know what I was doing with the line on his trimmer❤
@SeidelRanch. It came time to rethread some new string on. The directions must be written by people who have no clue how to explain or draw simple directions in the manual. So, we resorted to hoping to find good instructions on YT. Your video popped up and it made it so simple to understand. Thank you ! You've saved more than a few people unnecessary stress from poorly written manufactures instructions.
Thank you - a wonderful demonstration and explanation. I could change the cord easily and continue on. Before I had watched this video, I had to get someone else to change the cord for the last 7 years!
This is exactly like my Craftsman trimmer that has 2 separate lines wound on the same spool. So I just have to do exactly what you did twice. Very helpful video. Thanks!
It's a good trimmer, and now that we bought the updated one it's even better. I use it a lot more now and the gas one is on its way out. Thank you all so much for your awesome comments. Please subscribe to our channel if you liked the video. It's 100% free and really helps us out.
Cheap trimmer line here: amzn.to/3tcpYSW
SeidelRanch is this the same as the white button on mine that will release line??? I have the exact same one except it only has a white button....
Awesome, thanks. I was putting mine in correctly but did not realize the button released the line.. I should have read the destructions.
Dude u good! I needed this video!
I recently split with my husband and he was the one to restring this trimmer even at the end when we were at odds in the same house. I almost threw the thing away I got so frustrated doing it on my own. Thank you for the tutorial, love your wife at the end!
this video was very helpful for me. I agree, if you have lots of trimming to do, it is not ideal. But pretty convenient for small yards.
My husband passed away in March and he was the one that always trimmed and edged. I went to trim in May and the string was at the end. This video made it so easy to figure out how to put new string on easily and now I'm doing it myself. From my heart, thanks so much.

Best freaking explanation on how to change the trimmer line. I have not seen anyone do a better explanation on ANYTHING. Truly, you have a gift on teaching people. Thank you.

Super! Clear explanation without a lot of filler. You get right to the point and show how to do it in no time.

I'm not a wife but I do ADORE my Ryobi 18V Trimmer and this was VERY helpful to me...no music, no wasted time as someone else said...just the FACTS!

Thanks Nonya! Great input. Gonna try that line next time.
Well done. If only other videos were as good as this. No ambiguity, no long-winded over qualifying of what has already been said. Just straight forward and to the point.

Thank you so much! I went from frustrated and crying to 'oh, this is easy!'. The manual instructions were not very clear.
Yes! Finally you said the magic word! To wind the string in “opposite” direction of how it went in in the spool!! I watched several videos! Yours nailed it that was the tension issue! The string Needs to be rewinded in opposite direction of how it went in at source. Thx. 🎉
Yeah, that is key. Thank you.
Thank you for these ABC instructions. If you did videos like these for other things like, installing cabinets, replacing rotten pieces of floors in mobile homes, piping, replacing sinks in MH, and how to hook up a fridge with a water and ice machine to the plumbing... thanks for the video. Saved my sister 20 bucks!
Same. It was either buy 3 spools for almost $20 or buy universal for about $8
Thank you. As previously mentioned, simple, straight instructions without a lot of extra words. Sitting here in 85 degree sunshine, wanted to get it done quickly.
Glad it was helpful.

this exactly how I install mine, but it keeps continually feeding line when the trigger is pulled and is unusable. Complete POS
Green Meany im having the same problem. I just bought mine yesterday and I can't figure out how to make it stop.
I had the same problem. I ended up buying the preloaded ones. More expensive, but less of a headache for me.
Is the black button where the line is, stuck pressed in...or does it easily go in and out? I'm wondering if that's the problem. Do you constantly power it on and off? That also feeds line each time.
I think I know what the problem is!! Glad it helped. Yeah, I think they write it that way on purpose so you will buy their refills. Those do get very expensive.
Thank god
And hell yeah these things are kind of boring to use..not too exciting.

Thank you. I am glad it was helpful. Sadly manuals now days don't translate to English well if you know what I mean.
I don't understand why you got any negative feedbacks - instruction you gave is so nice explained - thank you
Thank you - a wonderful demonstration and explanation. I could change the cord easily and continue on. Before I had watched this video, I had to get someone else to change the cord for the last 7 years!
Glad it was helpful! It's great to know how to do these things. My wife felt the same.
Thanks for this. Simple, clear, helpful. A shoulder injury led me to buy this trimmer - I love its combination of size, power, and relative quiet.
My wife says the same. Glad it was helpful.
This is exactly like my Craftsman trimmer that has 2 separate lines wound on the same spool. So I just have to do exactly what you did twice. Very helpful video. Thanks!
One of the best how to videos ever, succinct, easy to follow. No need for the history of Ryobi or edgers🎉🎉
Wow, thanks!
Simple and to the point. All tutorials should emulate this style. A+
That is very kind. Thank you.
