How to Change the Line on a Ryobi 40 Volt String Trimmer
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 січ 2022
- Most Ryobi string trimmers use either standard .080 or .095 trimmer line. You can use the pre-cut Ryobi brand stuff found in Home Depot stores across the country or you can simply buy a big roll of the stuff like I did.
In this video I used the .080 line but you can get big rolls for less in all sizes and they all should work for your machine. Just make note of what size line your string trimmer requires before you buy a big spool of the stuff.
Here are a couple Amazon affiliate links to the .080 and .095 lines used in most 40-Volt string trimmers by Ryobi:
► .080 Line: www.amazon.com/Oregon-21-380-...
► .095 Line: www.amazon.com/Oregon-20-020-...

Is there any better feeling than going "ah ha!" when that moment comes where you realize what you have been doing wrong for years?
Thanks man!
Great and much needed video! Thank you. Who would have expected that the red cap is removed by turning it clockwise So much for "righty tighty" I was proud of myself for saving the owner's manual but it had not a word about how to change the trimming line. And why does this nice guy have to do a video instead of Ryobi? But I am glad he did.
Thanks. Been so long since I changed it I'd forgotten.
Loved it, I feel like I forget how to change it every time I have to.
Same here !!!! I a relatively intelligent person but litterally every time I need to watch the video
Thank you for your help. The time finally came to respool my ryobi trimmer. Didn't know if there was something special about this particular model, special tricks or just an easier way to do it. Thanks for sharing. 👍
I thought I was going crazy, I couldn’t figure out how to undo the assembly. Turns out the red cap was just a little stuck so I gently cheated a bit of extra leverage with a vice grip. Thanks for this!
Son of a gun. I had the same problem. Same solution too.
Thank you so very much for this video! I was finally able to get it apart after all these years lol. I gave up on it after struggling with it for 2 hrs and it's been sitting in storage since lol. 😂
For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself. Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.
Hi there, I invented and patented this trimmer head of which I license to Ryobi/TTI - You don't have to take it apart. Just line the arrows on the head up to the lines cut into the outside part and the string will push the line straight in and through the hole on the other side. And then once you have the amout of string you want, even it out with the other side, cut it and then just turn the head clockwise and it will wind up on the spool!
I would recommend that prior to making a instructional video like this that you would 1st read the operators manual provided by Ryobi
Others have said that as well and although I believe you and them it simply works better to take the head apart imo. The entire head always clogs up with debris between line replacement and even if it's possible to push the new line through the unit always performs better when the head is taken apart and then put back together.
i have this same model i line up arrows put string thru and turn knob and it doesnt wind just spins any idea whats wrong since you invented it
kind of a dick comment. Imo, the instructions are straight garbage, hence why everyone is here,
OMG! thank you so much!!! i had to search through video thumbnails looking for the exact red cap on the trimmer that matched mine..thats how old it is...the first video i watched had a different knob and some crank thing to wind it ..i was thinking i dont remember any knob winder lol....believe it or not this is first time ive had to change it since the original string that came with...being not so savvy i was wondering why only one side had a piece of string left lol...probably ran out on one side and never noticed...doh! anyway..thank you so much for keeping this video its exactly what i needed..i worked in garden dept at home depot and believe it or not even though im pretty sure ive seen this done before i didnt work in the tool section often so id ask someone to show a customer the correct way and it was awhile ago so i forgot the details :) thanks again!!
So glad you found it helpful! I think we both might be ready for a newer model lol. I've changed mine so many times now I'm finally starting to lust after the newer better units.
@@TurfMechanic Nope.
Them things cost too much.
Once I had enough cash on hand to fool around like that.
Now, under the improved economy of Brandon, I ain't got that cushion.
Here's hope that 5 November will change that.
Thanks this was a big help for me. Instructions worked perfectly for me. I have a Ryobi RY40002
Very helpful video. Thank you
Thank you so much !! Just like you said, righty loosey for this one
Thank you for the tutorial.
I have this same exact model. You don't have to take it apart. Just line the arrows on the head up to the lines cut into the outside part and the string will push the line straight in and through the hole on the other side. And then once you have the amout of string you want, even it out with the other side, cut it and then just turn the head clockwise and it will wind up on the spool!
Hi there, I invented and patented this trimmer head of which I license to Ryobi/TTI - ran across this UA-cam video today and read your comments - THANK U ! for educating him the Turf Mechanic - here you have a guy that you think would have read the instruction manual but evidently he didn't like many other people who don't
So I totally get how to do that but how do you remove the string now so you can replace it?
Thanks for the video!
very helpful, thanks!
True, you don't have to take it apart. I read the manual, but I lack hand strength due a condition, and taking it apart and winding the spool on my workbench was easier for me.
Thanks for the video
very helpful thank you
This was incredibly helpful good sir and your calm demeanor is phenomenal. You should try noice acting
Thank you so much !😊
You're welcome 😊
Thanks !
Thank you
Perfect, I been going left the whole time lol
Alright! Super glad to be helpful! Thanks for letting me know 👊
The string is wound up inside the thingy we cannot open it to get in to unwound it. All the UA-cam videos don't have any videos. Also it's petrol Ryobe cdso do you have any advise.
Is there a way to remove the head completely to replace it with a newer one?
Mine does not have the red cap, just a bolt head. I'm assuming it works the same way...
Does this model auto feed the strong? If so, how?
Is that Ryobi Model Trimmer RY40002 ?
Any idea what model of Ryobi this head is for? I have a brand new head I want to give away on Craigslist but don't know why I have it or what Ryobi model it came off of.
Now I can stop throwing mine across the yard😂😂
👍🏻
Is that a bump feed? Can't get an answer and mine doesn't work if it is! Thanks
Mine is. I find that the 'bump' works better if you bump and hold it down for a fraction of a second before releasing it back up.
How do you remove the red nut if it is cracked. It won't come off.
Well, I'm not sure if your crack is the problem or if you are turning it the wrong way. The trimmer I'm demonstrating in this video needs the nut to turn clockwise for removal. You could try a lock wrench to remove it but if it's cracked not sure how well that will work.
*face palm* rightly loosie, should have figured lol
Lol, you're not alone! 😊
It’s so easy, a caveman can do it. 👍🏻✌🏻
That really dates you.
Me too for that matter.
Good times.
Thank you
