Thanks for the shout-out! Good tip on the sdcard size issue. Looking forward to the next video!
I already manage esxi server for some times but never install it from scratch. I help me a lot with my new project.
Hi,I can't install ESXi 7.0 on DELL R630,LSI SAS9211-8i can't working with it,do you have any idea about it,thanks.
Greetings! Great video. Why does the card need to be 16gb or less?
Great video. Thank you for taking the time to do it. Do you mind placing a link for both the USB adapter and the M.2 SATA Drive. Thank you.
Links added under the video description.
Great Video. I see you purchased the H710 already flashed to IT Mode. Was it a remove and replace activity or was there any configuration required in DELL BIOS?
Plug and play really.
Does your server acceppt normal non-Dell SD-Cards? I thought the IDSM does only accept Dell SD-Cards (their is an empty Dell image on them with something in the MBR which identifies to the IDSM as Dell SD-card).
Normal SD cards work
Did you use the standard VMware ESXi 7.0 ISO or the Dell customized version?
Looks like the standard image at 7:45
I have just done this on my t620 that 2.9.0 bios update gave me memory errors so I downgraded to 2.8.0. For bigger sd cards try formatting in the vflash slot not sure it works thou.
I have been thinking about doing this with my t620, but I wasn't sure that an m.2 to USB adapter would fit next to the cooling shroud. Which adapter did you use?
@@jesuschrysler1281 I don't have the m.2 to usb I use a icy box m.2 to pcie card
I understand the dual SD Cards for installing ESXi7.x , at a loss as to why you would need the M.2 NVME USB 3.1 ? The SD cards not large enough for the ESXi config files, or is that what your going to us for the DataStore for the ESXi Server , and if for the DataStore why not just use one of the system discs ?
It’s your choice how you want to configure your system. ESXi Data Store on the NVMe since it will last longer than SD card. can’t use one of the system disk because I use TrueNAS. In the event SD card failed, I only have to reload ESXi as my data store on the NVMe
Great video, and just follow your idea, I installed ESXi 6.7 on IDSDM R620, same size dual Sandisk 64GB card, installation is easy, and ESXi 6.7 running well, but I immediately get an error message from back|front LED R620, it complaining SD2 is offline, a little bit annoying, I did some research, maybe 64GB SD card for 11G and 12G PowerEdge is too big?! do you have same issue? Thanks.
@@sysadmin102 Will do, I just asked the guy who sold me IDSDM if he has 2GB or 8GB Dell SD Card, see what happens.
Very interesting, even Dell give error, but both cards were written same time, just like mirror, yellow lights just drive me crazy, wish to get rid of.
Thanks for your apply.
@@sysadmin102 Just got 2 Dell 8GB vFlash SD (Kingston), need one time rebuild after boot, both cards works great, both cards shows online i iDRAC, no more error, I believe IDSDM won't support large SD card.
Any reason why you weren't able to use the 64gb SD cards? Can they be used in Dell Gen 13 and 14 servers?
I got the same error when using a 64GB SD card. They are not compatible with the Dell R620 SD card reader. You will need to use a smaller size SD card.
Hi, great video. Query: Can I use MicroSD with adpter SD. I can't find an SD card smaller than 32 GB. Thanks
You can try. I have never used micro SD
@@sysadmin102 I used 8GB micro SD with adapter. I had to restart Idrac for everything to work fine. Greetings
@@claudiodonoso1073 glad it works
Thanks! Is that ssd storage connected to internal usb 2 ? !
it is
I didn't know you can install esxi 7 on r620, can you install it on a r820 too?
You can try and let me know if it works. Not supported doesn't mean it can't run on it.
Why do suggest to only use SD cards less then 16GB? Can i use 64GB? I ask because its hard to find 16GB locally. the smallest they have is 64GB.
Dell is really picky. I try to use the 64GB but it doesn't replicate the data from the primary one or failed during the process, but 16GB seems to work fine. Plus it would take forever to copy block by block with a 64GB compared to 16GB.
Thats amazing!! Thats exactly what is happening to me right now. The status light blinks amber and it won't replicate. Thats why I was watching your video. I'll have to get 16gb somewhere. Thank you for the video. Also, you mentioned about checking block size? How do I check block size?
Plug it on your computer and go to get info if you are on mac. You can do the same on windows
I have read somewhere that esxi 7 wont support 620, 720 or 820!
Doesn't support officially, Doesn't mean it won't work neither. It's not certified for ESXi 7.0. Unless you are buying a contract from VMware for support, then it won't matter
@@sysadmin102 How about install it on R420? or R510?
