Reminder for everyone that Alex is only 19 - yet he's creating one of the most compelling narrative horror series to exist on the platform. I can't imagine having so many eyes on you while you're still figuring out your editing style, let alone before you've even constructed the narrative we're seeing unfold based on those original story elements he presented. The way he's built up this series is nearly perfect and I can't wait to see where it ends and what the future holds for him.

I'm sad that we're only gonna get 6 volumes, but at the same time, it's kind of comforting, knowing that we're going to have a finale or conclusion of some sorts, one that'll send a whole damn shockwave through this part of the internet for a minute. Alex deadass just said "you're on the right track. but look _closer_ " about his work and I love that.
I'm gonna also use this comment to bring up some of these tiny details:
On one of the website pages, at the bottom, there's text that's cut off. That always bugged me, and it's there on purpose, and I haven't seen anyone talk much about it. idr what it says
I also wondered this, about the churches having significance. When you go to church, you sit and listen to a guy talk about religion and God and what you need to do. What if that guy was an alternate? What if that alternate was preaching information that you did not want to know? Sounds like an awfully efficient way to gain 'followers'.
Alex mentioned briefly about doing stuff after the sixth volume, which most likely means a movie.
@@kikrinman1450 id shit myself if this guy gets into theaters the audience would probably also shit themselves in said theaters
I like that there's an end in his mind, at least to The Mandela Catalog as we know it. How many times has someone, usually the big studios but some small creators too, who hit on a good thing then just try to draw it out until it dies? Knowing when to stop is really important for any artist. I hope the world continues to get built in other ways, because Alex came up with a really neat concept and if like to learn more about it. For instance, what does the rest of the Earth look like? What is going on in other places while the events of Mandela County are happening? "Humans being replaced by non-human entities" isn't an original concept, but Alex put his own unique spin on it and I'm looking forward to seeing what else he wants to do with it, even if it comes to an actual end at some point. I'm always impressed when young folks are able to make their art and share it, especially when it turns out as good as this series.
😬😑🫤😑😐😑😐
What I love about the live action segments in Vol. 4 was that the atmosphere and the setting kinda fits in with the themes that the alternates have. Being able to translate the Uncanny Valley vibes of the alternates into the environment they inhabit is amazing.
Volume 4 is probably my favorite volume actually. It kept the uncanny valley but it made the world bigger and more involved. The alternates were done very well.

I dont know about everyone else, but I really liked the live-action segments. They were just such an interesting and new style that I loved it instantly.
I absolutely HATE horror, but I really do enjoy Mandela Catalog and Backrooms stuff. Its the fact that it seems real, but not REALLY REAL that I enjoy. Most horror is based on "Yes, that could totally happen" (I. E. People vs people violence, torture, etc). I can't handle watching horror that could most definitely happen to a person. This sort of horror though, is so completely unnatural that my brain is okay with it. It's also not super gory and bloody, so that helps. Lol
Thats like saying you hate music you just need to find your genre
@@deathstramy7272 I feel like horror is the genre though. Hm. Maybe I just need to find my "breed". Like any dog can be a dog, but there are different breeds of dogs. Lol So, maybe the breed of horror I like is analog. 😄 Then again, movies like alien, I'm totally okay with that also because aliens (in my opinion, everybody's mileage will vary) are very unrealistic. The ones I really hate, are specifically the horror where people are brutally violent against other people, which tends to be the majority.
@@deathstramy7272 It's more like "I generally hate this genre, but I really like this subgenre"
You hate horror as in "I dislike it" or as in "it scared me too much"
@@AuuuuuuuuuuuA I dislike human vs human horror. It scares me too much. I think because humans can naturally be pretty evil, so it's too "possibly realistic" to me. I'm ok with analog horror, and almost all alien horror though, because as far as we know, aliens don't exist. The only alien horror I dislike, is body horror type stuff. (Ie The Thing, which fascinates me because it's aliens and I kinda want to see it, but also body horror so that scares me 😅).

So, exactly how "scrapped" is the time travel element in Mandela catalog? I always liked the idea of the department of time distortion or what ever you called it.
The department of temporal anomalies still shows up in volume 333 so I'm sure they play some sort of role still. What's interesting to me is that temporal means time, but it also means something that is decidedly non-spiritual. Makes you wonder
@@distantsea hell yeah, that's the name. I like the logo. Want it on a sticker or hat. Yes the use of 'temporal' was an interesting choice. I always thought it had relate to the MAD disease or the way the alternates would mess with humans
I was always wondering why he didn't go with something like 'Department of Abnormal Phenomenon' or something in that vein. The more you knowww.
@@distantsea Yeah, there's also the whole "Mandela" name which seems to allude to the Mandela Effect which has to do with time being altered retroactively. I'm curious if the name is still supposed to have that connotation now.
@@NeutralOffensive I mean you could argue that it sort of does, considering 'Overthrone'. Now it's not so much that someone went back and changed it, but something that we thought was one way has always been another way...and our brains still sort of cling to the fake interpretation.
My favorite type of horror is religious horror. Its so interesting and real to watch. That's why I really enjoy TMC. It uses the idea of religion and twists it in a very scary and very realistic way. I love how he writes and characterizes everything. Super inspirational to me as a writer myself. I love realistic depictions of horror, it makes it so much more scary in that "this could be real". I love his work and can't wait to see what he does next
Cool! My favorite type of horror is all so religious horror, Lovecraftian horror, monster horror, supernatural horror, psychological horror, survival horror and other horror.

One thing I wish was asked, is if people are working with alternates/demons, sorta like Regnad in Gemini home entertainment. Cause *someone* had to make the photo software with the spooky 3D face demon OR the alternates can just manipulate stuff and make their own software? Or is it all inadvertently people advancing the alternates plans like the dude in Vol.4 that owns the tape shop, and I assume it was the imaginary friend alternate that copied thatcher manipulating him into doing stuff with tapes. Also curious what the governments of the world are doing? Do they just believe it's some freak thing, do they actively combat it? Do they just wait and contain? So interesting...
With Gemini and even Local 58 I've asked that question, who operates Regnad and who is the TRI are they plants within the government who knows about the moon creature/woodcrawlers or are they entirely alien and hiding among us.
I think it's probably people inadvertently helping the alternates when it comes to developing the technology in general. However, there could be others like Adam who were kidnapped as children and switched out. Maybe one of these children has almost a compulsion to try and develop these softwares, like Adam had sorta of a compulsion to investigate alternates and anomalies.
i absolutely love the passion you can hear in wendigoon's voice, hes such a fanboy for the mandela catalog and you can hear it

The next leap is gonna be nuts.
Watch it rival James Cameron’s Avatar in production quality.
No pressure Alex
Keanu reeves just uploaded!!
Interesting that Alex mentions there being many things which people should be questioning but aren't. I have been puzzling over how it is that it seems to be an accepted fact that the two children outside the church in the photo in the Exhibition video are Mark and Sarah Heathcliffe, yet we know that Sarah was born 15 years after Mark but there's no way those two kids in the photo are 15 years apart. I haven't seen this discussed (and I am guilty of not commenting on it myself until now) and am looking forward to seeing if something more a out this apparent anomaly comes about in due course.
I think one big thing about Mandela Catalogue is that it literally has in lore reasons for the series evolving past analogue horror. The reason we’re getting live action, digital computer stuff, and all that is because Analogue is being removed in universe and digital is coming up as a “Safe” technology. And best of all, the alternates are actively being threats, because one problem in the modern age is that some monsters just don’t work. Vampires need to be destroyed by sun, poisoned by garlic, maybe stabbed with a stake? Nah, have fun with this IED, Count Skill Issue. The thing with alternates is that even as we learn new ways to combat them, they evolve new ways to combat us right back. They evolve with our technology and our tactics, and remain constant, present threats to humans… so long as we fear them
Great job with the questions Mr goon, its the most entertaining interview i think Ive ever seen.
The backstory behind the scenes is just so interesting.
Never would have thought a highschool project would evolve into what we have now.
Gotta get me some of that MandelaTech drip so I can cosplay as my inspiration and best boy *_Dave!!_*
Alex is such a cool guy. His energy is really great and I love how open and accepting of the fandom he is, especially when talking about a theory he doesn't personally like. He wasn't rude or telling people they couldn't follow that theory. I hope he's seen some of the fan animations floating around. I've caught a few and they're all SO impressive in how they catch his tones with completely different art styles. This man has poured so much of his soul and creativity into this series that it ignites that spark in other creatives who find the series. I'm not usually able to watch horror stuff as so much of it relies on jumpscares and those physically hurt me. Having a series where the creator values tension and suspense over shock is SO nice because now I can actually watch the content directly and not be on edge for if I'm gonna have to bring myself down from a panic attack.
Even as a non-religious person who still holds a lot of spiritual beliefs, the concepts he brings up about how unsettling and horrifying it would be to discover the powers you believed in had it out for you in such a horrid way still hits me really deep and helps bring about that deep deep feeling of discomfort that the series has become so known for. It's also been a fascinating observation seeing that where people fall on a religious/spiritual spectrum (full atheist to hardcore agnostic/religious) has such a profound effect on how the series is going to effect them.
Wendigoon, if you could it would be so cool to interview the creators of Marble Hornets! I know they aren’t active anymore but they were one of the first horror projects on UA-cam.
I’ve been waiting for this
The Man, The Myth, The Cryptid himself.
When I first saw volume four, I definitely wasn’t a big fan of the live action scenes, especially the ones with Evelin because it took me out of it a little.
But after rewatching it and looking at it through a different lens, I’ve come to appreciate and downright adore the live action scenes now. I see how a lot of the decisions for the scenes were intentional and they actually fit really well in a series like this. I think the people that have issues with it are people who don’t really understand artistic intention with horror and look at the scenes at face value. If you watch the volume with that mindset, then yeah it’s gonna disappoint. But if you realize the intention behind them, the aesthetic he was going for, then I believe the scenes were done masterfully.
Such a good series. Can’t wait for volume five. I am beyond excited.
I feel like Adam is actually the alternate that Thatcher shot in the head, to my theory, might have caused amnesia to the alternate and believed itself to be the real Adam and then went on to do these investigations until meeting the intruder.
14:00 ish - questioning and challenging your own faith is actually a conversation with God and a means to deepen the connection you have with Him.
