That part child comment made me uncomfortable.
It should've
phenomenal
I don't care for SNL much, but it is good Julia held no ill will against them. It just didn't work out for her there so many years ago and it was cool she took some ownership as to why. Clearly it didn't hinder her career path.
Saturday night LAME! Hahah
Thank you for teaching me the playboy sketch.
"When she joined SNL in 1982. At the time, there were very few women to appear on the show."
What?
Have you ever seen old SNL? This video sounds like you read an article on SNL but have never watched the old episodes.
The original SNL cast was a third women. There were six men and three women. The second year there were five men and three women. Gilda Radner, Jane Curtain, and Lorraine Newman. Those three women are three of the nine founding members of SNL. Those three women were lead cast members on the show for the first 5 years until Season 6 when Lorne Michaels left and the whole show changed.
Not discrediting anything Julia Louis-Dreyfus was saying. I'm not saying SNL was a great place for women. I'm saying your notion is wrong that there were very few women to appear on SNL before 1982. Almost half the cast was women for certain seasons in the 70s.
SNL is hard for anyone. Listen to Dana Carvey's and David Spade's podcast Fly on the Wall. None of the women featured on the podcast have depicted SNL as being a misogynistic or sexist environment. What every man and woman does say is that it is a dog eat dog environment. That part rings true with what Julia was saying. It is a very competitive place where everyone is out for themselves.
I believe Julia that her experience was misogynistic and she did not have a good time there. But let's not rewrite history and act like the first years of SNL weren't lead by a strong female cast. Women have always had their defining place on SNL.
Yes women always had their defining place, showing skin and being attractive for the male gaze. Dont you think thats misogonystic? How women are always assumed to be ok taking their clothes off for tv etc?
@@singingsunflower9000Once again, you sound like someone who has never watched the old episodes of SNL. Or any SNL. The vibe of the show is rarely anything like women taking their clothes off and trying to be attractive for the male gaze.
@@GhostfaceDylan ive seen episodes of them making fun of women being nude, while the women still ARE NUDE... So yeah.
@@GhostfaceDylan you honestly dont believe SNL was misogonystic back when julia says so? Seems like you mostly have a problem with misogony being called out. Everything on tv has always been in favor of men, why would SNL be different? Even if there was women on the show, there was more men, and the men make more money, showing less skin. Women on tv always have to look better to get the same parts that men get without having to look any certain way. These are just general rules that society has created, dunno if it is better or worse nowadays though... Women never win either way, you dont have to feel so threatened.
@@singingsunflower9000 I love people. I love life. I love women.
My original comment was about the number of women that were on the original show. The video stated that there weren't many women on SNL and I was pointing out that there were a lot of women on SNL.
I said I believe Julia. It's very hard to get offended by what I originally said but somehow you managed to. 🤷♂️
I certainly have nothing against women. Women are amazing. Women definitely have to go through a lot of bullshit that men don't.
The problem was that it was difficult to even find a funny woman in the 70s, 80s. It’s hard enough now.
Early in SNL’s history, there were few women cast in the show because the number of cast members was so low.
Out of the seven main cast members three of them were women (42%).
And there were only a few female hosts, because there were hardly any successful female comedians at that time.
Yum
Crazy
Boinggggggggggggg
What? She didn’t meet her husband at SNL. She met him in college.
Most of the things said in this video are inaccurate.
I still wish they had a more diverse cast on SNL.
Its a terrible show now
