So, a lot of people are asking what TAS stands for. It means tool-assisted speedrun. A normal speedrun is played by a human in real-time. A tool-assisted speedrun, by contrast, is constructed using an emulator with an input recording/playback feature, typically taking advantage of frame-by-frame gameplay and savestates. This allows gameplay in TASes to be more perfect than what's possible in a normal speedrun, because any minor mistake can be redone as many times as the creator feels like it, and each move can be meticulously timed beyond what a human could reliably do.
