  • The TP-Link EAP610-Outdoor (AX1800) Outdoor Access Point is part of TP-Link's Omada series of SDN equipment. In this video, I setup the EAP610 in the back yard of a rental house to see what kind of coverage and speeds we can get.

    This is pretty much what I want to achieve with almost identical hardware. Thanks for the great content!

    Nice big back yard, nice to see its not just Australian telcos or ISPs giving crappy upload speeds lol I will live in hope of affordable symmetric internet plans one day.

    Can it broadcast the same SSID as the primary indoor network, to create a mesh-style setup (although hardwired this time, rather than wireless like your video) if the 610 is plugged directly into the main router via ethernet? Does it have to be another TP-Link router indoors or can it be any other brand of router and still create a mesh, keeping the same SSID? Thanks.

    It would be really usefull to know distances, since I am not going to be accessing wifi from your next door neighbours garden!! 🙂 My backyard is 20 acres. So are you saying it will work from the boundary of my backyard? ;-)

    This would be great for more experienced users but - what is the other end of that ethernet cable plugged into> The router, a splitter? Also, the screen you go into to "adot" the 610, where is that found??

    So if I wanted to add an Eap 610, I can just hook that up POE and I should be able to add it into just my normal system with no other TP link products

    Just a stupid question as im bad with technology but is it even possible to use this AX1800 access point as a wifi extender for a Xfinity modem, see my family and i use Xfinity as our wifi service and I've got a space set up in the garage as a gaming space only problem is my wifi coverage is only limited to the apartment,so i bought an ethernet cable so that the device would run but im just wandering if I'll need two cables just to connect the AX1800 to the wifi modem again im stupid at this so any info would be greatly appreciated please

    Hello, I just bought this and am waiting for it to come in. I was wondering when you set it up outside the yellow cord, was it a ether cable and if so what was the length.

    What would be a good setup to cover two acres of land? (including Router, and Switch)

    • @simple_networks
      @simple_networks  8 місяців тому

      That will depend on what the two acres of land looks like. Is it wide open or does it have tree coverage? Either way, I would probably go with Ubiquiti instead of TP-Link as Ubiquiti has a more mature line of outdoor equipment.

    • @simple_networks
      @simple_networks  Рік тому +1

      My farthest was roughly 150 feet. That would be the one in the video where I am back by the shed. It’s rated for 200 meters so theoretically I could have gone much farther if I had more property:)

    Hi! Never used TP-Link before but I'm looking to move from google wifi mesh. I need 2 indoor points and 1 outdoor, can I do this with TP-Link DECO + This one? The Omada controller is a cloud controller or do I need a router that runs it? Thank you

    • @Champions360
      @Champions360 10 місяців тому +1

      Deco and this Omada(mu-mimo) are two different “brands” within TP-Link and aren’t interchangeable unfortunately :( i just bought a deco system and my EAP outdoor won’t show in the app. It’s only usable through the Omada App. Sucks huh

      It's not designed to be used as a stand alone WiFi Extender. You will want to purchases a dedicated WiFi range extender or repeater for that. It will likely be cheaper than the product shown in this video.

      @simple_networks  4 місяці тому

      While I haven't tried it personally, I don't believe they would actually sync up in terms of software. I don't see a reason why you couldn't use the outdoor AP as a "dumb" access point (wifi extender) but at that point, i would say get something a little less expensive.

      You can set the device up on it's own without a controller, although you may not get the full set of features. Keep in mind you could always run a local controller on a PC, set the device up to your liking, and then shut down the controller.

    Why do you call AX1800??

    • @simple_networks
      @simple_networks  6 місяців тому

      TP Link (and other brands) put AX1800 on their devices that should theoretically be able to support a total throughput of 1800Mbps. I saw the number so many times while working with the various TP Link devices that I started mixing up the numbers:)

    You should have turned off your mobile data. And showed physically what you connected the mesh router to and etc. some people don’t know what that is. Good review though other than that.. But still idk if the speed test was running off of your mobile and or Wi-Fi.

      It was definitely running off the Wi-Fi, the data connection in my area doesn't go above 2.5 or 3 Mbps.
      Definitely a valid point though and something I will keep in mind for future videos! Thank you for the feedback!

      WiFi runs over cellular, even if your cellular has better connection, which is frustrating when you’re still on a network and have no bandwidth but have five bars of data cellular.

      Not with the phones I’ve had. There’s always different settings for different phones and if you jailbreak them or unlock. So it can go both ways.

    Good afternoon,
    In my house we use a 5G router. Because of the thick walls we only pick up a 3G signal.
    If I go outside my iPhone picks up a 5g signal.
    Do you know of a product that I can connect to the back of the router using either ethernet or TS9 connector that I can mount outside.
    Thanks in advance.

      They do make external antennas but I can’t recommend anything as I don’t know what kind of external antenna Jack your router might have on it. You will want to consult the user manual first to make sure it will even support an external antenna. If it does, it should tell you what kind.
