      This video has been a big help. I have just hatched my first clutch into a breeder box (so cute) and all of the babies are climbing to the top of it and congregating. I put some blanched broccoli in with them as well but none of them are going for it or the shells they hatched from. Water parameters are perfect. Is this normal behavior? Thank you.

    I didn't realize that snails got those grooves on the shells when the water parameters change. Makes sense I suppose, different mineral compositions of different water affect them, maybe? But what if you're just moving a snail from one tank to another in your fishroom, and the water is the same because it all comes from the same source?

    I’m using the method with the Tupperware from your initial video on how to incubate the snail clutch. But I’m wondering if it happens again because I don’t have a top on my tank would it also be OK to just squirt a little tank water on them each day to keep them moist but leave them where they are?

    Hi, my challenge seems to be when is the right time to help release them from the clutch. I had one today that was about 14 days old and I saw one snail had come out. I tried to rub the clutch in the water but it was pretty hard. It doesn’t look like too many survived. I’m not sure if I released them too soon or waited too long.

    Hi Rachel, I have recently discovered your channel and I love it. My mystery snails have started eating my bucephalandra. they were in vitro plants and I think they were eating the dead plant matter. trouble is they have now started on some of the healthy plants.
    is this a sign that I'm not feeding them enough? the tank is new so I've been adding pellets specially designed for snails and shrimp but maybe they are not getting enough?

      +Rachel O'leary thanks for the quick reply. I watched your other videos on mystery snails and I think they are Pomacea diffusa but I'm not certain. T_T i just want snails but im not having luck.
    does the tank need to be a certain way? certain temp? the pet store people didnt really tell me anything other then i should get these alge wafers

      I like to raise them up to dime diameter to sell. It takes a few weeks, but really depends on temperature as to how fast they grow. I like to keep them slightly cooler so that their shells are thicker and more perfect.

    We started with three mystery snails -- golden, black and white. We have hundreds of baby snails now, but the eggs are not like these clutches. They are individually microscopic, and the eggs are in clear clusters stuck to the glass, way below the water line. Most of our plants are cultured, and should be snail free. The largest babies look like the same shape as the adults, but are dappled. Are these not mystery snails?

    • @RachelOLeary

      No, that sounds like bladder snails

      Thanks! I looked at some pictures and they look exactly like what we have -- so, we have a good sized colony of cherry shrimp, and 8 neon tetras (this is a well planted 20gal high) . Is it possible to control the population of bladder snails without harming the shrimp?

    Rachel please help! I can’t seem to find information on what if they eat out of the egg sack and crawl to the water in my DIY incubator? How long do I keep them there? Maybe I should just hatch them the way you do it.....and why are some clutches not fertile?

    • @RachelOLeary
      @RachelOLeary  4 роки тому

      If you check the clutch every day, at about 10ish to 12 days you will see a color change. When it has an almost grey/blue transparency, the snails are about the hatch. Just keep an eye on it. The incubator will have enough humidity for the baby snails until you release them into water. Eggs are laid as part of reproductive health, they are not always fertilized

  • @charleegirlaktorge6029

    I got 2 gold mystery snails yesterday and I've noticed my mollies will ram into them and knock them off the side of the tank. They don't try to eat them. Is this normal or will this damage them?

    • @rterry2292
      @rterry2292 6 років тому

      Hi Charlee....you should keep the snails separate in their own tank. The mollies will stress them out and the snails might very well stop coming out of there shells to eat. Mollies can be bullies and they might pick at the snails too, causing further stress. A nice 5 gallon filtered tank would be perfect for your two snails.

    • @charleegirlaktorge6029
      @charleegirlaktorge6029 6 років тому

      Rhonda Terry they all adjusted well. The mollies don't bother them any more after the first few days. Everyone is doing well now thankfully. I was worried because I only have one tank so wasn't sure what to do with them if they kept getting attacked. I upped the food for the fish and they are not aggressive anymore.

    • @rterry2292
      @rterry2292 6 років тому +1

      oh that is wonderful to hear that your mollies are behaving themselves...you probably know this but make sure you drop fresh veggies in to feed your snails. I use spinach, zucchini, carrots and green beans. Also they really benefit from having a direct calcium source to munch on. I keep a cuttle bone in with them at all times. Good luck! One of my girls just laid a clutch! I am hoping for some purple babies....

    What do you mean by “called” is that putting the snails down? We have a clutch trying to figure out what to do with ours

      I think she meant the word "culled" ?? But yeah i think that means they die. They'll die without their shell anyway

    I have watched your video and followed everything you said to do. I have 4 clutches in the floating tupperware as you have showed to do. It has been close to 2 1/2 weeks for the first clutch and they are still not looking mouldy. My aquarium temp is 74-75F. I have a floating breeder box ready to go on stand by for when the time is right.
    This being said, at what time should I just break it open?
    It is possible that it was a false pregnancy? Could that even happen?
    I just want to make sure that they are not going to die.
    Your videos are super informative and I enjoy watching them. I really hope you can help or someone else who reads this!
    Thank you
    -Cat

      Thank you for taking time time to reply. To be on the safe side, how long should I wait to break them open if I suspect that it is infertile? Or if it is fertile then every time the clutch will look mouldy when its time.

      +Cathy Robidoux generally will break them open if they havent hatched by 21 days

    Question here if the snail lay eggs out in the wild . there is no humidity. So then how would they hatch then? I have a net breeder box & i just put the clutch on a little peace of Styrofoam & let. Them do there job. I don't spray them either .

    • @RachelOLeary
      @RachelOLeary  2 роки тому +1

      In the wild, they are laid in plants by large water on the edge so the humidity is quite high

    Hi! My mystery snails are making clutches. I have 2 snails, i was woundering if a female can lay eggs even if they are 2 female in the tank. No babies for sure! But how can i know if my clutches are fertilized ? Thank you! :)

      I have had viable cluches even with a single adult snail. They are hemaphrodites and can self fertilize

      No, they are sexually specific but females can store sperm for up to 3 or so months

    Hi, I have pics of snail clutches from my blue an gold mystery snails. I made incubators an it's been like 10-12 days an the clutches look the same. Is it because they arent fertile? I have 2 tanks with blue pair in one and gold pair in other. Within 6 days, I ended up with 6 clutches. So they havent changed color. Should I just wait for 3 weeks? Thx for any advice!! Didnt know how to send pics..

      I would give them the three weeks. It's possible they are not fertilized
