    I had a blue mystery snail for about a year and a half. She passed yesterday. She was a joy and always made me smile with her little tentacles, or when she’d parachute down from the top of the tank and bonk my goldfish in the face. Hope she’s eating broccoli in the snail afterlife :)

    I just found my mystery snail a foot away from the shell :( I didn't know it was the snail at first. I had to put two and two together. It looks like a cloudy ball of vomit. I've been searching and searching for what could have happened. I don't know if it's decay or if the fish have been picking at it. I had it in a 5 gallon with 3 neon tetras and it was doing so good. Always moving and the fish never bothered it. I am SO SO SAD. I just want to know what happened.

    Got a few 2inches mysteries on my local pond last week. Put them in my 50G pond with my shrimps & mollies. Love the way they 'inflate' themselves. They'll go near to the surface, got their long trunk out to the tip of the surface & in a couple of seconds they're floating.. drifting till they reach to my salvinia & gobbled 2 leaves..

    I seen my snails super long trunk breathing like a snorkel yesterday and it tripped me out. It exhaled a breath and then cannonballed off the glass down to the substrate.... It's a very interesting, unfamiliar creature.... I just noticed that it likes to eat my sinking loach pellets and Ive seen it eating some blanched kale that I offered. Interesting little bugger, I hope it's copacetic in my tank. The snail didnt move for the first few days when I put it in, but it cruises around and rather quickly too these days. Do these guys like friends?

    • @LavsSnails
      @LavsSnails  3 роки тому +1

      Ah yes, Parasnailing is so much fun to see! I believe they DO like friends. They seem to act a bit more lively with a buddy and i personally think they enjoy having a snail friend with them. I have actually heard numerous accounts, and have personally seen it as well, of Mysteries finding "soulmates" in fellow snails. Virtually inseparable! Every time i have witnessed a bonding between two snails they almost always leave this world around the same time. From a broken heart it always seems. which tugs at my heart so much! But yes, in my opinion they do really enjoy the company of other mysteries.

    I am Brazilian and I was very pleased to know that they are native from Brazil, since we have such a very restricted regulation about which kind of animals we can keep here as pets. Also I was super happy about the different colour options they have, because I just knew the golden one I was planning on putting them with my axolotls and know I am setting an aquarium just for them, so I started reading and searching about them as a crazy person and I am super happy know that I have bought quite a few, haha.
    I loved your videos and I have already subscribed to see and get to know more about them with you!
    It's just a pitty that their lives are so short and that we seem to don't have any black and albino variation here in the Brazilian marked :(

    I use a mix of small pebbles 15 pound bag and Aragonite sand 15 pound bag and my ph stays perfect. People having issues always comes down to the water quality. It doesn't matter what aquatic animals you have YOU NEED TO DO WATER CHANGE AND KEEP UP THE FILTER. I personally take out my snails and put them in a "Feeding Tank " 1 time a week for an all you can eat buffet. Biscuits me a chance to not only inspect them it also gives me a chance to really put protein and calcium into every single one of them and not just throw the stuff in the tank and the bigger ones pushed the little ones out of the way and eat all the good stuff first. Since I started doing this my snails are beautiful and so big.

    I have a probably paranoid question, but - if you boil cucumbers for snails in tap water, does that mean there's chlorine and chloramine in them? Or is it such a small amount it doesn't matter?

    • @LavsSnails
      @LavsSnails  3 роки тому +1

      The Chlorine, etc. is all removed during the boiling process. Although sometimes, because i am paranoid as well lol, i will add prime or safe to the water AFTER boiling it just to make sure. But the boiling process SHOULD remove all of that yes.

    Hi! I love your video. I wanted to ask a few things about mystery snails. I've read online that they carry parasites and diseases that can affect other animals and humans even causing death,is that true? I really like them but that seems really scary to me. How can you find one that is disease and parasite free? Even if you get a "clean" one can they still get those diseases and parasites and then transfer them?I really wanted to own one but since reading that i got really scared. I would really love your opinion and knowledge on this!

    I believe that I have both species that u talk about in this video. I also believe I saw them mating with each other. The larger species is female. I've had her about 4 months and she must e to me already fertilized because she surprised me with a clutch recently
    But since then is when I believe I've seen the 2 different species mating. I'm wondering what the outcome will be ? The smaller species I noticed lay their eggs under the water. I was wondering if u knew more about this. By the way I absolutely LOVE your videos. I am a beginner to this

    I have a tank ready for a mystery snail who I'm rescuing today! I can't wait to see how it goes with it! Because it's coming from a pet store that does not know how to care for them! And I have been doing research on them lately. To get enough of what it needs I'm still collecting what it needs but almost there! But I have plenty of what I'm needing so far! Besides food for it and drift wood! Which I can get the drift wood next month easy! And the food is easy to get.

    I added apple snail today.. It started digging up in the substrate.. It did that in 3 spots within first 10 minutes.. I moved it back to quarantine tank for now..
    .
    Any reason they do that? How to get it to stop? It id ruining the aquascape by digs and uprooting plants..

    To stop your plants from being dug up, superglue some of the plant root to a rock, and then plant the rock in the soil.
    The plant won't care about the glue, but the snail can't lift the rock.

    I am very confused about the smell of a dead snail, i have three nerites that don't move, 2 of them haven't moved since I got them.. Thought I'm just giving them time to adjust but it's been a week now. I smell them but they just smell like the ocean does.. i dont know if that's the rotten smell they mean..

    I've noticed a lot of algae wafers and shrimp pellets have copper or copper sulfate in them and have always heard copper is bad for snails, so should I just avoid those products or are they okay?

    For your tank you could get away with one 50% change a week or two 25's
    How low are you trying to keep ur nitrates?

    • @LavsSnails
      @LavsSnails  3 роки тому +1

      Some weeks I get away with one. I aim to keep nitrates below 20ppm. 👍

    I have recently gotten 2 snails, they are in a tank with three gold fish and I am worried about the snails, the goldfish seem to knock them around a lot. Is there anything I can do to help this? I don’t want my snails to be stressed

    Funny story on how I got my five baby snails My partner’s parents had one golden shell snail in their tank with a fish (not sure what type of fish) the fish sadly died but the snail is still living and the snail had babies there was only one snail in the tank and next thing we knew was there was babies everywhere it had laid eggs in the top corner of the tank outside of water then they all hatched some were late bloomers but they all hatched and well so when you said that they can’t change gender to have babies I thought we’ll no they can because turbo (the snail) did and has babies now I have five of those babies in a small little plastic tank I am trying to get a new tank for them with a fliter and oxygen bubble thing so then they can live their happy live I’ve had them for about two months no fliter no chemicals just straight tap water in the tank with some gravel at the bottom and they seem to be doing good
