Sorry for the high price tag! We hope you can understand the fact we are paying our employees in an American wage and most supplies are American the cost of manufacturing our drums is costly(for lack of a better term).
Thank you for being ethical. Most "cheap" drums are built by exploited underpaid people...
I am really glad you said that, DW! I know this comment is 7 years old, but I feel like people just don't put that into consideration. Meanwhile, Pearl and Sonor charge more than you guys do, and neither are based in the US. In my personal opinion, I think your products are priced pretty fairly. Keep up the good work!
Never apologize for charging for a premier product. Even if the drumset were to cost 30k..it would last until you die.
Still isn't way WAY overpriced like Roland!
Polar opposite opinions is always a blast. Premium kits from brands like DW, Sonor, Tama, Gretch or Pearl all sound great, and all are supported by drummers that are renown for their sound. There are some ridiculous statements floating around on this board - people bashing this and that while defending their own "cubs" with comical ferociousness.
Someday I will own DW's...someday.

I have been playing drums for 25+ years and have played a few different name brands. I tell you though, DW has been my dream drum set since I was a little guy. I have only been able to afford the hardware/pedals in my life but eventually I hope to get a set one day. DW truly is the masters of their class and NOBODY comes close to them.
I clearly do not need to defend DW. Their drums clearly can do that themselves. Im sorry you feel that way. I think that every brand has a unique sound and all have a voice that needs to be heard.

Whoever is in charge of replying to youtube comments for DW does the best job ever. I come to these videos just to see the hilarious comments that they write back to people.
@FurlanPaolo just to be clear, we do not pay ANY of our artists to play our drums. We only give them free gear. So if I may answer the question, he must either prefer our gear, or our company in general, or both ;) Whatever the case, we're glad to have him on board.

I had an entry level DW kit. I loved it.
@sergioaarocha Thanks for your comments! The SSC is definitely geared towards the lowers tones but with some tuneabilty.
DW I've come to conclusion that your finishes are immaculate, and that you must be wizards.

@omgitspractice the shells are maple, but the Exotic Veneer on the outside is called Ebony Ivory

@GPLEXNINJA Good question! He does have a few. His main snare is a 5.5X14 Super Solid in a 1/2 inch shell thickness.
That is definately the best drumkit I've ever seen....
First time I ever see a death metal drummer playing DW (preferred by jazz, country and hard or soft rock drummers) instead of Tama, Pearl or Mapex (preferred by most metal drummers).
This is just enchanting, I tought I would never see something like this, finally someone did!... Thanks Derek!

2. 3-ply inners refers to the reinforcement hoop as you guessed. this is standard for Collector's Series.

@burns01 Not a dumb question. :) The Super Solid snares only come in a 5.5 depth because their already very specific sound. We found this depth worked best for versatility and also justice to the theme of a solid shell.
We suggest you start with PDP when the time is right for you. Your welcome!

@burns01 The Super Solid he plays for his main snare is a 5.5x14.
5.5x14 Super Solid Snare, 5x10 Snare, 6x12 Snare.
The VLX Plus is the lowest of low for shells in the SSC for us. It is best used for bass drums. It is so low we do not advise using it for toms because of the small amount if sustain.

I like Derek's hand positioning on his sticks. he keeps his pointer finger out which is very different from other metal drummers

@09areFish The HVX can tune low and sound great still. The difference between the HVX and SSC kit that Derrick has is that Derrick's kit is specifically a lower sounding kit naturally. So to answer the question Derrick's kit would be a easier tune for a lower pitch where the HVX will hold a great low tone but you would need to tune lower than you might when normally tuning your drum kit. Hope that make sense!
