Airing on his birthday we have the Risk game where I make it to Grandmaster playing Classic Fixed.
I have always thought that the classic fixed GM is the highest form of GM and I am happy to count myself among those ranks!
I share some strategic thoughts for the game of Risk: Global Domination.
    Settings are:
    Map: Classic
    Mode: World Domination
    Setup: Auto
    Cards: Fixed
    AI Difficulty: Expert
    Turn Timer: 60s
    Fog: Off
    Blizzards: Off
    Alliances: On
    Dice: Balanced Blitz
    I hope you enjoy!
    - Pete

I think it is hilarious that the other guy is claiming "lucky". Pete basically immediately made friends with another player on the first turn. That alliance got them the 1st and 2nd spots in the game. Too many people going into this looking for enemies rather than allies.

I had a game that played out almost exactly like this but reverse. I made allies with a player and they got North America and I got south America but quickly expanded into Africa. We went first and second I got first because he missed eliminating third place by one territory and weakened his forces in doing so

Pete I did not expect you to talk about mental health but it was such an insightful discussion. I had never heard of the framing of depression as an addictive mindset before but it rings so true. Doing much better now than I have done for years and a lot of that has been realising that I do actually have the ability to improve my life and overcome my failings and weaknesses.

    • @CasperA
      @CasperA 2 роки тому +1

I haven't been struggling that much mentally but it strikes me how well he covers the topic. The framing idea is really essential.
I am autistic and haven't been a huge fan of the word neurodiversity before because it created a sort of us/them feeling for me, but hearing his interpretation as a way to frame autism more positively (which I have been doing anyways) is also something I will keep in mind in the future now.

I for a long time thought it was normal to randomly think about "walking infront of cars" when out for a walk. Happened all the time. That was before I got diagnosed with depression. Getting that answer weirdly enough made me spiral even further down in my depression leading to me losing my job and here I am. I had to reach rock bottom and on my way up.
It was easy to blame everything on depression, not taking responsibilities for anything I didn't do.

Wow. I had the same experience. I actually did walk in front of a car though. It felt unintentional though, like I was not in control of my body. I don't think I wanted to walk in front of one, but I somehow did. Afterwards, I received much love from my family that I did not expect at all, which I think what made me ease out of depression, and from then I realized that the only reason I was depressed was because self-thoughts rather than reality.

The way we frame circumstances has a big influence over the way we experience them.

"Settlers of Catan is a trading game", somebody should tell that to the people in my former board game group. I'm not sure I EVER saw anyone in that group make a trade. When you asked they'd just say "Why would I help you win?" or counter with an absurd offer that just gives them all your resources.
I get wanting to win, but I don't feel like this is a healthy attitude. It's a game, we're all supposed to be having fun. Refusing to engage with the game's core mechanics is not fun for anybody. And when that attitude infects the entire group....well there's a reason this is my _former_ board game group. After a while you get tired of jerks countering your trade offer with "all of your wood for one of my sheep".

Yeah if no trading occurs in catan it is diceroll simulator with very few decisions besides starting placement of settlements and "do I buy a development card here or not" or a road. Like I get not trading lategame because you could just hand someone the win that turn, but early on you're supposed to trade a lot.

I certainly would not claim to be a therapist.
Im just a guy who's fought his own battles with mental health and am happy to share my story.

@@TheKillPeteStrategy just one's opinion but I'd say you're already there - just let the algorithm do it's thing and you'll amass a huge audience for sure.
You pass people in life, you don't want or need them but damn they have that aura.... you just wanna be near them!
Very chill vibes chief, will catch your stream whenever I see you on.
      PS
I thought your take on the depression and it being a kind of addiction was bang on, feel alot of times when we all comes from different walks of life and vocabularies we get so many miscommunications through a lack of mutual understandings but then you hear metaphors or expressions of what would be considered complex issues and it just seems to evapourate the mist and give that clarity. I still struggle to make my own ones universal enough to be understood by all but just wanted to say that you blitz'd that without needing to do a 30m presentation with illustrations and piecharts on whiteboard.
A man of clear experience and wisdom with humbling mannerisms to boot. Glad I found you =]
      Much Love ❤🙏

i find the mental health conversation really interesting, especially around the framing of “disability” vs “neuro-divergent”, while it’s definitely true that the is no inherent value to one cognitive way of function than another, the way our society and culture is set up it can heavily impact some people negatively, i find that pushing the idea of autism being a “different ability” can often really invalidate the genuine struggles people with disabilities face in the world, that’s my two cents anyway, might have to pop by stream sometime and have a proper conversation you discussed some very interesting topics :)

I agree that formerly suicidal people should talk more about it. There is no shame in having those thoughts and important for people to understand they often are temporary. Through treatment, lifestyle changes or sometimes just maturity (in my case), it does get better! ❤️❤️❤️
