    Instead of sending the curved side of the shelf, you should make a template on thinner wood and then trim shelf on the router with the coping bit. It would be already smooth with no sending needed

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  Рік тому +1

      I could--that would be a great idea if I was making several of these and would reuse the templates more than once. But since I was just making this one shelf, cutting and sanding wasn't too big of a deal on just four pieces.

    If this is being painted, the color/species of the dowels from the outside wouldn't matter at all in the end. This could be a cool kit to sell online, to be assembled/finished by the customer.

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  Рік тому +1

      If only I had the time to put some kits together! Haha. That would be a great idea.
      Yeah, when I started building it, I thought she was planning to have me stain it and when I asked her about what color she wanted, she had decided on paint. If I had known ahead of time that she was painting and not staining, I'd definitely have just countersunk and plugged the holes.

    When screwing through the back post with the countersunk holes how do you determine the depth you drill?

    • @WoodshopDiaries

      I just drill deep enough that the screw head sits below the surface of the wood once it’s driven. The bit has a stop, so drilling until it stops works as well

    Shara, starting off my Saturday with another great video from your workshop. I just bought 500 more pocket hole screws and 250 foot of edge banding....so if your wondering whether you're influencing anyone there's your answer. I bet you roll your eyes when your Mom starts thinking up the next project for you. I am sure she's proud of you and the things you've accomplished so I recommend you keep building stuff for her with your special touch and with love. Thanks for Sharing!

I just always hope it's a good influence if I'm influencing anyone 😅
      It's funny you say that about my mom because I'm actually about to build her a whole new bedroom set (my dad has no idea haha). She definitely keeps me busy building--but I'm happy about it :)
