    I also like a video about macro post-processing.

    I enjoy both flash and no flash. Depends on what I'm in the mood for when i head out. Great job explaining the differences.

    From my experience, it depends on the situation.
    When I'm alone, I like to take my flash and play with composition, focus bracketing, focus stacking.
    But I have my husky with me most of the time outside, and I'm happy to get a few photos with her without a flash 🤣🤣
    I love your videos and photos on ins 😉. Have a nice day and thank you!

      Thank you so much! Yes add a dog to the equation and it is a whole different ball park for taking photos :)

    I use the same system, but am wondering why you aren't worried about chromatic aberrations when you narrow your aperture below f/8. Sure, I can shoot f/16, but that's not the sharpest aperture on these lenses. Stacking can make up for the lower DOF.
    Also, you can also get a lighter background with a slower shutter speed while using a flash.

    • @EmilieT
      @EmilieT  2 місяці тому

      That is correct about slower shutter speed while using the flash to get a lighter background but for a lot of my subject I can not use focus stacking because they are moving and I would not get the shot. That is why I use a shutter speed of at least f/16. Now if I have a very cooperative subject, yes focus stacking is a great option. That is what I use for my refraction work.

    Great video. Why do you use the Fl-700 flash over the FL-900 flash?

    • @EmilieT
      @EmilieT  2 місяці тому +1

      Just because it is more compact and so far it has not been a limitation in my photography

    Really interesting Emilie I’ve been enjoying Macro photography for many years now previously on Nikon before my OM1 and I’ve always used natural light But I have a 700 flash and AK diffuser and I’m really trying to learn how to use it well but I find myself going back to natural light lol I wish I lived closer to you as I’d love to go to a workshop :) but I’m in the UK

    • @EmilieT

      Thank you Jill. Try TTL with your flash if you are not focus stacking. that is a great way to start. I need to make it to the UK and do a workshop there! that would be so fun!

    Hunt's in Melrose? I used to live a short walk to Hunt's Pharmacy in downtown Malden. Yes, I said Pharmacy, that is how it originated and where I bought a few lenses for my film OM-1. Years later, I lived in Malden again and was a short bike ride to the big store in Melrose. I used to buy newly expired pro slide and B&W films for a significant discount. Lucky for you, in NH, it is North of Boston, so you can avoid most of the traffic.

    • @EmilieT
      @EmilieT  2 місяці тому

      That is true they started as a Pharmacy. Hunt's sometimes posts some of their old adds. Now it is strictly a camera store :)

    Do you need a different diffuser for your 90 mm and 60 mm? Or can you use it for both macro lens?

    • @EmilieT
      @EmilieT  2 місяці тому

      I do have two different diffusers but I can use the 60mm diffuser for my 90mm. it doers work well.

    Nice vid. Can your diffuser be used with different focal lengths macro lenses. I looked at one or two diffusers in the style as yours & they had to be ordered by camera lens combo giving me the impression one would needed to be ordered for each different focal length. Thanks for any replies.

      Thank you Thomas. My diffuser is tailored to my gear but I can use the diffuser made for the 60mm on the 90mm. Very often those diffusers are tailor-made.

    I generally use the same flash and the AK Diffuser with both the 60 and 90mm. Since I started using it I find easier to do macro. Where I live is always windy, so it helps to freeze the image. Well, what I do is to follow your advices.

    • @EmilieT
      @EmilieT  2 місяці тому +1

      Ah yes, wind can be so tricky. I live in the mountains and do get quite a lot of wind when i do macro.

    Very interesting and useful video Emilie 👌. There are so many options for taking macro photos but in the end it is down to the LIGHT 📸😎. I use daylight, Flash and LED often depending on the situation. Even my LED Rotolight’s can do flash!! Always use a diffuser for Flash. Now looking at Godox battery powered LC30Bi LED lights. Such a shame you are based in USA and not UK. I would definitely come and meet you. Have fun 🥰🥰❣️❣️

    Hi Emilie, When you use your flash and F16 and iso200- what’s the max shutter speed you can reach? For example how would you capture a flying bees wings in full detail? I seem to be limited to speed 200 when I use my flash but I want to use about 6400 to capture the wings. I have exactly the same kit as you do by the way. Thanks 😀

    • @EmilieT
      @EmilieT  2 місяці тому

      I am usually between 60 and 100 for shutter speed. Very often it is enough for me and my style. Are you using M or TTL for your flash?

    • @shirleydalgetty2654
      @shirleydalgetty2654 2 місяці тому +1

    • @EmilieT

      @@shirleydalgetty2654 If your subject is moving and the light might be changing and you are not doing focus stacking or bracketing, give TTL a try and see if that helps.

    When using the flash, I think it is great that we are not stuck at a 1/60th a sec shutter speed like we were in the film days. Why wouldn't I want to use the maximum of 1/250th a sec?

    • @EmilieT
      @EmilieT  2 місяці тому +1

      I am usually at 1/60 or 1/100 so my flash can follow if I switch to focus stacking. Just a safety net for me.
