Hi Emily. Nicely done. I like to put my diffuser on last, so I can see inside the cone and check that my flash is positioned correctly (a little OCD? maybe), then the diffuser. After taking a safety shot(s), I review the photo(s). If some underparts are not light enough, I add the lower diffuser to bounce light upward. Flowers too, not just beetles ;7) Keep up the good work!
I got mine recently, for the 60mm and Godox 350. Putting it together was easy enough but I’ve not taken it out in the field yet. Mushroom season is about to kick off in the south of England, so I’m looking forward to putting it through its paces. Been using a Godox Litemon LED until now, so I’ll be interested in seeing the difference in results.
I don't think you have to justify your style of photography, like you say we all have our own methods of acquiring the image we have in our heads for the subject matter. There are many benefits for flash or no flash, and personally I think it is good to know how to do both. That said I am right at the very bottom of the learning curve using flash and that diffuser. So great to see you giving us insight about how to acquire the image using diffuser. I have a question as regards the flash......I have the 700 too and was wondering what setting you set for the spread of the light (sorry my mind has totally forgotten what the word is, I hope you understand what I mean). Hope all is grand over the pond, sounds like you have many exciting things ahead.
Hi Emilie .Nice video.Where can I buy it ? Amazon only has the large version and I have a Nikon 60mm micro lens so I think I should use the small version. Thanks a lot for your videos.
Hi Emilie, a nice and helpful video. I have the combo of OM-1, FL-700, and Olympus 60mm macro + AK Diffuser (later version that stores flat.) I wish that version of the AK had two sets of Velcro straps, like the one for the 90mm lens you show. With the single set of straps, it is less secure than I would like and moves significantly. I have the straps at the bottom of the flash like your second set of straps here. Also, the front of the diffuser rubs on the knurled focus ring of the 60mm lens, making noise and creating vibrations of the entire setup while I rotate the focus ring. Is that particular to mine or does your 60mm setup fit similarly?
Oh that is strange. Mine for the 60 works fine. Did you contact Zamir from Ak to let him know? He is super responsive and cares a lot about his products.
Hi! Thank you for your advices. I have a doubt: You say that you start from a greater distance and then you get closer. In what starting position do you place the 90mm button (S-Macro, 0.25-05m or 0.25m-infinity)? Thank you!
My first question is, why does it have a light if it's meant to wrap around a flash? For getting the right exposure settings under the shade of the diffuser, before the flash fires? My second question is, how many people threatened to unsubscribe because you a flash instead of natural light? I bet there was at least one. 😂
it's my experience that the bugs don't see the flash, I have never seen one react to it. They do react to your shadow moving over them. I have this defuser I only tried it a few times it seemed awkward to me, I will have to try it again. Best rig I have used was the flash in my hand with a sock defuser on it and a trigger on the camera.
Great question! Most of the time, they really don't seem to care and even notice. But I had it happened a few times where I could tell some insects (ladybugs) got startled. So in that case, I stopped and moved to another subject. Thank you for asking this question.
Thank you, I just ordered my FL700WR Flash and AK Diffuser. I can't wait to try them out.
That's great! Congratulations! I think you are going to love them.
😂 i would be happy to have the experience and the fun and frustration 😂 and along with the lens! I hope one day to get the olympus 30mm macro
Fascinating AK diffuser set-up. A big LIKE for the video. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Singapore. Happy shooting.
Hello from New Hampshire. The AK diffuser is amazing. I highly recommend it.

Perfect timing. I was planning to put mine together today.
Awesome! Have fun with it!
Great video. Now if I get one I will have a video.

Have a great mushroom season! So many cool ways to photograph them.
Hi Emilie. What settings do you use for the flash with the AK diffuser ? Thanks you so much for share your tips for better photography.

You can buy it directly from Zamir at AK diffuser: akdiffuser.com/?wpam_id=39
Great video and tips, what lens are you using for your shots?
Thank you. I mostly use the M.Zuiko 90mm macro

Are you focus stacking?
If the subject is cooperative yes but the vast majority of the time I am not.
do you have to have a different size one when you use your 60mm .. i have both lens and am just getting into using a flash and diffuser ..
I do have a different size but I have use my diffuser made for the 60mm macro on my 90mm macro

It depends but mostly in S Macro

The light is useful if you do macro at night instead of having a flashlight. A few people probably unsubscribed because I use a flash ahaha :)
Is it not a trauma for insects to shoot them with flash ? I was thinking that photography must not disturb nature.
