I flipped the magnet of the neck Burstbucker (and rotated the PU itself) years ago. Free and useful change to the middle position that I otherwise never used.
This is the proper way to achieve this "whacky" or "quacky" sound. Is not needed to flip the humbucker. And the trick here is: If you down a bit any volume (neck or bridge) this massive "quacky" sound will almost dissapear.
@@JaimeCerrada It's different way if you don't flip both the magnet and the pickup. And it it depends on a lot of your pickups and their height how the volume controls affect the tone of both pickups played at the same time. I have no problem getting quacky tones this way.

I'm not a Les Paul guy but wow that top is making me question things. I'm wondering/assuming a regular phase switch would change the pickups to normal phase.
I have a custom set of magnetically out of phase humbuckers wound by someone local to me in my SG, and a regular phase switch brings them back in phase. They sound really amazing together, the vintage-style wind makes the in-phase sound alot more characterful than alot of modern guitars
I was going to throw some P90s in my #2 LP, but after watching this video I'm thinking of just flipping the Burstbucker 2 around in the neck position, and doing some custom wiring. Saves money and gets some tone options outta my cherryburst. Thanx for the idea.
I prefer backing off on the bridge pickup in the middle out of phase position to favor the neck slightly - less strident than favoring the bridge pickup, still plenty of phasey character, almost Fender-ish.
These sound amazing! I love the out of phase sound…these really have me in contemplation 🤔. I have a Bastard Frankenstein Tele Deluxe with Humbucker sized P/U’s that would be perfect for an upgrade? Shit! 😳
You can buy the neck separately, yes. However, there are a lot of variables to consider when doing this. Your bridge humbucker should be wound in the same direction and have a similar output, otherwise the out of phase tone may be harder to dial in due to the imbalance. It’s also possible your bridge pickup may have the same magnet orientation as the Duncan and you’d not be out of phase. You can buy those little magnet polarity tester tools to confirm.
