I like the extra warmth and mids of the Greeny Bucker. The Greens capture the essence of a 59 PAF perfectly. The Duncan 59s are nice but the don't have enough of that old a school mid range Honk for my tastes m
WOW!!! One of the best demo videos I have ever seen on You Tube. Very good playing and not a lot of talking. Keep up the great work and just for the record the 59’s had a bit more clarity but they both sound great.
Had this playing while reading something else. Every time in the solo demos when I heard something that made me look up from reading, it was the 59s. It was the reverse in the backed-up demos though: the Green Magics sound more ear-catching when driven & in the mix
Excellent playing, both pickups are really nice and have there own thing and sound great. You definitely have that nice quack in the middle position with the Green Magic pups, but wow, you really can't go wrong with either of them.
I put the Green Magics into an Esp LTD Eclipse and it's a Les Paul clone but brighter sounding so the result that the guitar helped keep thr clairty of the 59's but the characteristics and benefits of the Green Magics.
They both sound great. Somewhat similar until set to center then a big difference is heard. I need to rewind and listen a couple more times. Great playing Clint, thank you. Sire black leftie L7 on order. Could have gone with the L7V but wanted the L7 to mod the pickups and is all black and gold. Guess I better call and order. Better yet, take a trip to Santa Barbara. That would be cool. Both
Hi Clint..just spent the entire afternoon on your channel and barely scratched the surface. You are an incredible talent and i really enjoyed your band covers. Also great tutorial on your Helix setup. Killer tones👍
I have been winding my own pickups for a bit now. BUT, I have a 59 bridge pickup still in my all mahogany single pickup monster guitar. It just sounds so amazing with that guitar that I will never take it out. It's a great pickup. I love that 59. Sings and gets nasty is such a glorious way. It's an old one so I don't know how it compares to the newer ones. But based on this video, I think it really shines here too.
They are both very good and that guitar seems to be special. The green magic seems to have a little bit of texture that isn't in the 59 set and the green magic neck pickup is a little better in my opinion. The middle position with the Green Magic seems to standout more. But I'm not able to listen with headphones at the moment.
Damn. Great playing! I had to subscribe. I have the 59s in a MIK Epi LP and just wanted to hear them in. Gibson. I like what’s different about the Green Magic. It’s like a compressed 59 with a little polish at the end. Really cool
Have to say I prefer the sound of the 59's especially when both pickups are engaged. More warmth and punch. Greens are kind of wimpy sounding when both engaged. The 59s are less expensive too. Great demo Clint.
If i could describe the difference it seemed the 59 were more focused on the note whereas the greeny was ready to break up a d there was other frequencies comming off. I liked it very much. It was the difference between playing a solid state v a valve amp (not quite but you get my picture)
It's weird, despite the lack of mid-range how the 59's capture that Seth Lover and Green Magic sound on twin levels with an eq range of 6-3-8! I wonder if the SH-14 is a higher gain version of the 59? Seeming it's built the exact same, but with higher output. Even the same 6-3-8 eq.
First of all, great playing. Those 59s sound amazing. Definitely my choice. I have a set of 59s in my 335 (Gibson) an absolutely brilliant upgrade to the Gibson pickups, opened the sound and let's the guitar breath.
Complimenti👏👏👏 eccellente esecuzione. I pickup che dire.... Sono eccezzionali suono caldo e ben definito. Io persobalmente preferisco i 59, ne ho montato uno al manico sulla mia les paul e in quanto ad attacco e sustain è fenomenale. Complimenti ancora.
Every guitar I have switched pick ups in always gets a 59 bridge there is nothing better, and I play heavy music i have a guitar with a JB in the bridge and it’s an inferior tone to the 59 bridge
Need a Green Magic vs Gibson Greenybuckers comparison. (Not on the Epiphone Kirk Hammett as those are wax potted and the ones sold individually are not)
Clint, are your '59s potted? I did like the '59s more. They had a bit more space in the mids which, in my opinion which made them less murky. The Green Magics were a bit muddy to me.
Any idea how the Green Magic pickups compare to the Antiquities? I’m looking for a brighter humbucker, and I’m worried that the Green Magic pickups will be a little too dark? Thanks!
I'm not 100% sure on the Antiquities other than they are a fantastic sounding pickup. ( A friend has a set, but I haven't compared them). The 59's are brighter and I absolutely love them.
IMO the Greenies sound a bit dull by comparison to the 59's and the 59's are an exact recreation of the original 59 HB, even wound on the same machines Seymour bought from Gibson! and the 59 LP is one of the most expensive used guitars ever made! IMO the 59 in the neck cuz it nails that crispy 59 blues vibe, and the Greenie in the Bridge for its singing smooth sweet leads!
Yes both are great at what they do. I absolutely love the 59s, but the Green Magics are just so balanced and vintage sounding that I want to keep them in the guitar. I think the answer is more guitars!
Excellent video. I like how the greenies sound. I think that if the factory magnets are changed to the vintage 59 ones, they would improve. Originally they come with polished A5, by putting an A5 rough, it would be better balanced. Very good, thanks for the video. ᕦ( •̀ᴗ•́ )و ̑̑
Come on guys I’m reading your comments and as a guitarist who has used Seymour Duncan pick ups for many many years oh well, no the green magics are custom from the custom shop. They are certainly a far superior pick up and would be better compared to the antiquity versus the SH 59 because the SH 50 night is an owl Nico five on oriented which has very poor clarity. This is not a good demo of the pick ups and the signal chain. Here is keeping those clear and I can assure you at higher game tones you’re not gonna get Joe Bonamassa tones are truly good tones out of those 59‘s I’ve tried Dunkin 59‘s numerous times throughout my life And you don’t get good 59 reproductions or high-grade pick ups for $200 think about it. The first bikers from Gibson are 300 bucks on potted from Sweetwater. You can buy those 59’s for under $200 a pair from Sweetwater, the P green magic set is a custom shop that runs $300 more along the same lines as the burst bunkers which are considered almost custom shop compared to the Seymour Duncan 59’s and neither are the burst biker or, the green magic have an Eco five again Bose I’ll Nico to big difference. This is an apple and orange comparison. Great playing on the video. Sorry the 59‘s are a great disappointment and they’re not made to spec the antiquities. Are there true PAF for Seymour Duncan. If you’re young guitarist, don’t go blow your money on pick ups especially not Duncan 59‘s either go to the engine equities or the green magic honestly in my opinion I’ve got the green magics and one of my old Les Paul’s and have a gig with it for over 20 years. Love the 59s...I have an undercover set in one of my guitars.
You mean it's a secret covert set? For spy guitar?

What about the 78 model set. They sound so similar to Gibsons Super 57's.
I don’t like the lower mid bump of the Greens. They cause a harsh distortion when on the edge of breakup.
Great demo! I think the Green Magics sound dull compared to the 59s.
Can the neck pickup be paired with a different bridge pickup and still get the out of phase tone?
I've got the same question. Did you figure out things?
Duncan's website says the magnet in the neck pickup is reversed. It means it will be out of phase with a regular humbucker.
What age is that les Paul classic?
EDIT : Just seen 1999. Every 90s early 2000 les Paul classic I’ve tried is killer. Great les pauls
I have the Green Magic set in a LP and I love them. Planning on getting the 59/59 Custom Hybrid for a PRS... Great video!
+1 for the 59's. Best Regards and Best Wishes!
Now that is how you do a demo !
Hey Man! Great video! What about 59's on a SG? Would it work ?
`59s sound fantastic.
'59s no doubt 👍👍

My eq guess for the Green Magics is 6-5-7.
Ok…I want a guitar where I can have 4 pickups in it. THESE four.
I want them to ROTATE in from the back!!

Gibson did actually make a Les Paul where you can pull out the pickups and swap them via the back.
