I can think of two main reasons. First of all Magnaguards were iconic of the might of the Confederacy and Palpatine simply couldn't allow them to be in the public eye because they would disrupt the political narrative of the Empire, which thrived and survived based on tyrannical unity. Sure, the Empire used leftover Droidekas and Dwarf Spider droids, but those were pretty obscure by comparison. Second, they had already been replaced in the bodyguard role by Death Troopers and other elite trooper types. The Empire believed they already had something better.
The Dwarf Spider droids And Droidekas were _obscure?_ I beg to differ. The Dwarf Spider droids were THE heavy infantry units of the CIS, being more heavily armoured and having more long range firepower than the B2 Super Battle Droids, while also having superior mobility because they could climb walls and cliff faces. And the Droidekas were considered one of if not the most dangerous infantry units that the CIS had access to, thanks to their incredible mobility combined with their firepower and built in shield generators. I fail to see how they were obscure when both were used on most major fronts during the Clone Wars.
The problem with droids is they can be hacked or reprogrammed, a human who has be brainwashed however can't be turned as easy, that and I kinda love the red guard armor.

The Magnaguards were so awesome in live action. I’ll never forget in revenge of the sith when obi-wan chopped off one’s head and it continued to fight!
“Just as effective in combat as the droid general himself.” I like and respect the droids, but if that were true, the war would have ended a lot sooner with Grievous’ demise.
It would make sense for Palpatine to not use the Magnaguards if he wanted Grevious (and as a result the Magnaguards) to be the symbol associated with separatism, I mean, you wouldn’t use the same thing you swore to destroy, right?
I agree with these points, but the first one I thought of was from a public image standpoint. That it would look bad if the man who defeated the Separatists and brought peace, now had the same bodyguards as Grievous. Since most Imperial citizens would remember he and his guards as evil mass murderers and oppressors.
Geetsley, “begging the question” refers to a logical fallacy in which you utilize circular reasoning (p therefore p). It is not the same as raising a question. I find this ambiguity is prevalent in your videos and I just wanted to inform you. Great video as always
So these Guards were equals to Magna Guards, yet we never actually got to see them hunt down and fight Jedi. It was only Vader, the Inquisitors, and the Purge Troopers that were the Jedi Hunters appaerently.
Grievous never sent his Magnaguards to hunt Jedi either. Also according to some estimates, there are only 50 Royal Guards when you have 1,000 to hunt down.
@@emberfist8347 I meant after the purge. After that, there was only 100 Jedi left and that was just after the initial purge with Order 66 and Operation Knightfall, only a few weeks or months later more Jedi ended up dead and joining the Empire as Inquisitors. So there were probably only 60 to 70 Jedi left to hunt down at that point.
@@emberfist8347 Okay, I don't want to start a math argument here, but I think you did your math wrong here. If 10,000 is 100%, then half of that 50% would equal 5,000. Thus, 75% being wiped out would equal 2,500 left, thus 90% equals 1,000, while 99% would equal 100 left. 1% is 100, thus 10% would be a 1,000 and we'd need another 9 10%'s thus another 9 1,000 to equal up to 10,000.
If I remember correctly, the was book about Vader and Palpatine on ryloth. And a royal guard stood against Vader ready to fight him till Palpatine told him to stand down.
Palpatine didn't need super strong bodyguards, he was one of the most powerful beings alive. The real question is (and you unfortunately didn't answer that): Why didn't the Emperor/Empire use the Magnaguards for something else than protecting some dude, e.g. as special forces etc.?
8:20 note that is not true. Flesh has many faults if not more than droids/robots have. Also it takes a minimum 20 years to replace 1 guardsmen it takes 1 day if that to replace 1 magnaguard. Furthermore bang for buck magnaguards were cheaper too and any reliability issues that you had with them could be countered by have a mix of them and guardsmen or using a collecting of other droid models as well. Heck you could just build a even larger army of them.
Eh...some. but Custodes are like Royal guards dialed up to 11. I dont wanna be that "Warhammer is always better" guy but Custodes are top tier even in Warhammer. The Royal guards tend to get manhandled by vader all the time whereas Custodians are halfway between astartes and Primarchs. Pretty much the ultimate warriors, and unlike astartes Custodians actually had resistance to psychic warp hacks
I believe those IG-100 series were much, much stronger than sort of organic guard only rivalled by very talented force users and those with plot armour. They were also the best pilots one could potentially wish for due to their extreme reflexes. That being said, their very high production cost was their downfall. Royal guards were indeed chosen among the clones themselves which means they're cheaper and insanely zealous while a droid is a droid. Palpatine himself was a fairly paranoid person, he would have never trusted his life into the hands of a machine that could potentially out match him given they always worked in squads. Human guards were probably more suitable to him since he could easily kill a possible defector with his force abilities.
I bet that Palpatine loved having a few living autonomous people absolutely subservient to him around at all times. The practical manifestation of power, the dominance over bodies and minds of others - the high of the Dark Side.
My personal headcannon is that palps wanted to make sure he couldn't be related to grevious. The magna guards were associated with grevious, and grevious was made to look evil. If palps used them, it would make his appearance go down
The guards would also have been a status symbol. Anyone can buy some droids, but having living beings ready to fight and die in your defence shows real power.

Once the best of the best, now getting beaten up by f***ing Ezra. Disney *really* hates the Empire.
this is possibly one of my favorite and the best videos you’ve ever created :)❤️
Magna guard vs royal guard. That would honestly be a good fight.
We didn't see any royal guards really fight in the movies though...

Blue robed senate guards vs Red robed royal guards would be a good fight, too.

This is Palpatine. He pretends to be a xenophobe to gain control. In reality, he has no distaste for Aliens, he hates all equally.
Be like Palpatine.
Are you 100% sure there’s not at least a couple of Magna Guards lurking under those red cloaks?
Those two pilots droids bumping into one another @1:40 😂
I hope we get to see more royal guards in movies or tv show in action.
Those guys are really underrated.
Oh, and don't forget video games.
100% the reliability and zealous loyalty.
Especially since there's been several droid rebellions in the SW universe
A lot easier to re-program/corrupt a droid then a fanatical zealot
8:58 "Go with him where ever he went, including his private office or to bed." reminded me that Palpetine did go to bed with a lot of people.
Imperial Royal Guard:*As to quote a warrior of sure might. *W E ARE T H E ANGELS O F DEATH*
lol, no.

He choose the real troopers because he was paranoid about the magnaguards could be hacked and used to attack him
You forget that Grevious had to personally train all of the Magnaguards. Without Grevious, who would train them?
The Magnaguards were so awesome in live action. I’ll never forget in revenge of the sith when obi-wan chopped off one’s head and it continued to fight!
Droids: *can be disabled by EMPs*
Royal guards: I have no such weakness

>Extreme beyond human skill
>gets clapped by Ezra Bridger
>gets beaten by Lando and his cat Dark Jedi twins in mere seconds
To be fair, Royal Guards aren’t force sensitive
Can you make a video about the different types of Sith in the reconstituted Sith empire
Yes plz
*happy Tenebrae noises*
Palatine could use mind tricks on the guards while he couldn't control droids. That's probably one of the biggest reasons
Guards: *Talking trash about Vader in their own language.*
Palatine and Vader: "We like your funny words magic men!"
I love that there’s Lore for something that was probably a real limitation for the film.
Palpatine picked the Royal Guard because they never would betray him...
"Laughs in Carnor Jax"
“Just as effective in combat as the droid general himself.”
I like and respect the droids, but if that were true, the war would have ended a lot sooner with Grievous’ demise.
It would make sense for Palpatine to not use the Magnaguards if he wanted Grevious (and as a result the Magnaguards) to be the symbol associated with separatism, I mean, you wouldn’t use the same thing you swore to destroy, right?
i wish we could habe seen the magnaguards fight more against enemys which dont have plotarmor
Everybody's chilling till you find the magnaguard in republic commando
I agree with these points, but the first one I thought of was from a public image standpoint. That it would look bad if the man who defeated the Separatists and brought peace, now had the same bodyguards as Grievous. Since most Imperial citizens would remember he and his guards as evil mass murderers and oppressors.
I think he just liked the brutality of their training as a spectacle
Geetsley, “begging the question” refers to a logical fallacy in which you utilize circular reasoning (p therefore p). It is not the same as raising a question. I find this ambiguity is prevalent in your videos and I just wanted to inform you. Great video as always
He saw that nice red on those troopers and made the obvious choice
Tbh that Empire red guards do sound cool if they are as reliable and fanatical as said -JACK
@@zexalbrony4799 No there were 1,000 Jedi left. The Clones wiped out 99% of the Jedi so there would be 1,000 out of the 10,000 from before the war.
@@zexalbrony4799 Okay but still around 100 after the purge.
Ah yes, the helicopter robots from republic commandos
Off-Universe Explanation: The budget and technology wasn't available at the time.
The Imperial Royal Guard. When mindless robots aren't loyal enough.
I guess Snoke's Royal Guards didn't get the memo about them being to most skilled warriors in the galaxy
Also, Droids can't be influenced through the force the way living being can. This would make the Royal Guards even more reliable to Palpatine.
Magma Guards also had to be trained to be effective. The ones personally trained by Greivous would have been loyal to him and trained in Kalish
Because:
"No Droids allowed!"
To bed? I don't want to imagine that...
Imagine a star wars movie of a magmaguard going through character arcs
Let’s not forget the droids hadn’t been design by Lucas
If I remember correctly, the was book about Vader and Palpatine on ryloth. And a royal guard stood against Vader ready to fight him till Palpatine told him to stand down.
Also droid phobia from the clone wars is something the Empire used to draw support
8:48: Ah, the legendary Carnor Jax.
Having a mix of both would seem to be a good idea
Royal Guards in secret language: “i didnt vote for this ball sack bitch”
Palpatine:
Short answer: you go back to the 80s and build a frickin magnaguard
Fun Fact: The IG Assassin Droids were also made by Holowan Labs.
THat training class for the Royal Guard that had only 2 survivors, those were Kir Kanos and Carnor Jax.
I would really like to see a video on them.
I'm surprised they weren't used to support purge troopers and inquisitors after order 66
I’m drawing a lot of similarities between the Royal guards and the Custodes
Eh...some. but Custodes are like Royal guards dialed up to 11.
Living organisms have intuition and can be augmented by the force.
I believe the empire should have recycled sepratist droids into imperial droid armies for the stormtroopers
Palpatine thought that people would be reminded of the separatists and compare the empire to them
In other words the royal guards were simpin for good ol palpatine 😂
If I remember correctly, Imperial Royal Guards were so dangerous that multiple of them being in one place even made VADER nervous.
If palps used them, it would make his appearance go down
Nice video bud love the channel
The guards would also have been a status symbol. Anyone can buy some droids, but having living beings ready to fight and die in your defence shows real power.
